About this property
Spacious, 80m2, quiet, 2 bedrooms, free parking, large terrace, City Center
In very popular Amsterdam North on one of Amsterdam's ancient 17th century sea dikes: Buiksloterdijk, is located our totally renovated apartment of 70m2 . It is a oasis of peace and yet incredibly close to the city center.
Although you are in Amsterdam North, you are in fact much closer to the city center than a lot of other places in Amsterdam. You are just behind the Central Station across the river IJ.
The Buiksloterdijk used to be the place where the Dutch East India Company captains retired. The 17th century houses where called 'the captains heaven'. The water of the IJ-river that runs behind the Central Station came up right to the house. Since 1870 it is a polder.
If you want to go to the city by bike, this is very easy and quick. In fact we recommend renting bikes as this is the best way of transport in Amsterdam.
Right in front of our house is a bicycle path. Just follow this path 10 minutes and you are at the ferry behind the Central Station. It is a beautiful ride along the NH Canal and the Noorder Park. You could also stroll along the canal to get to the ferry. This will take approx 25 minutes. You can walk to the metro station along the canal, 12 minutes and from there take the metro to the center, 2 minutes.
By Uber taxi it is 5 minutes to the free ferry, costs euro 7. Either way from the house you will be in the city center in less then 15 minutes.
Staying in our house is being close to the buzzing scene of Amsterdam and yet feel like your in the countryside. Here you wake up with birds whistling in the morning.
That is why this location is one of the most sought after locations of Amsterdam coming second after the canal district in surveys. There is nothing better than coming home to this quiet and beautiful spot after a tiring day of sight seeing or shopping in the city.
The view from the house is beautiful. Overlooking the North Holland Canal and the Noorderpark. In the back you will find a beautifully kept garden.
It is a very sunny spot, you get the sun coming in very early in the morning and staying most of the day on the terrace. On the side of the house you can store your bicycles safely behind a gate.
Amsterdam North is the starting point of numerous bicycle and walking routes through rural North Holland. These routes go right past our house.
Just a few kilometers away, along the North Holland Canal, you are at the Ilperveld, a bird sanctuary and nature park. It is possible to rent so called 'whisper boats' (electric engine) and tour this very special area. A very good idea if you feel like a pick-nick or a swim in summer.
An 18 hole golf course is just around the corner (1km).
Amsterdam North is the where the artists live in Amsterdam. The brand new EYE film museum with the best terrace of Amsterdam and great food is located here. MTV resides here, so does Universal Studio's.
The famous and trendy NDSM area is around the corner.
NDSM, a former shipyard located on the banks of the River IJ in Amsterdam Noord, NDSM Wharf has blossomed into an enormous cultural hotspot in recent years with a vibrant artist community and an ever-expanding variety of bars and restaurants. With grounds exceeding the size of ten football pitches, the area hosts multi-disciplinary festivals, performances, exhibitions, dance parties and a wide range of other events in unique, post-industrial surroundings.
There are many specialty restaurants, such as Next, Barracuda, Helling 7, de Klaproos, Café Modern, Il Pecorino, Plekk, Loetje or Hotel de Goudfazant. Many of these restaurants are located in old factory buildings or former shipyards and overlook the IJ river.
Just around the corner of our house are 2 good and inexpensive restaurants a Turkish, Turquoise Meating, and a Thai, Pasoek.
A small supermarket is at 200m.
Parking is FREE at 300m or in front of the house €8,30/DAY. In the city you pay euro 8 per hour.
The apartment consists of a large living area of 30m2, 2 large separate bedrooms 16m2, with king size beds, a well equipped separate kitchen with microwave, fridge and dishwasher. There is a luxury bathroom with toilet and an adjacent large roof terrace. This is the only place where you are allowed to smoke.
You have a 40¨flat screen TV with cable .Free fast Internet is available. You can find in the apartment a lot of maps, guides and touristic books about Amsterdam. As your hosts -we live in the house ourselves- we are most happy to help you with tips, online tickets for the musea and any other questions you might have.
