Relax And Reconnect With Expansive Views Of The Historic James River
The Claremont River House is a peaceful getaway located on a high peninsula overlooking the James River. The location itself has a deep history, from before the time of the earliest European settlers, but the house itself was built about 20 years ago as a creativity retreat. Each of the four levels of the house has rooms with balconies facing the water and views ranging far up and down the lovely James River. The bottom floor is a walk-out basement with a bedroom housing a queen bed, a two headed stone tile shower, a separate WC and a large communal sitting area. The main floor has a large Great Room and the communal kitchen as well as access on three sides to the wrap around porch. Two bedrooms are located on the second floor; the master with the king sized bed and gracious bath, featuring a Kohler slipper tub, opens onto a private balcony overlooking the river. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed and a private bath and offers a view of the grounds. The uppermost floor houses a cozy room with a private bath and a stunning, bird's eye perch over the river. The four-acre grounds provide seclusion along with easy access to the river side community. The property is served by high-speed internet. Much of the woodwork in the home was made by Mack Headley, a former master craftsman in Colonial Williamsburg. Some of it, such as the herringbone patterned floor in the Great Room and staircase, was made by him from local walnut. Enjoy, relax!

We had a wonderful time, the property is beautiful, very clean, well kept & was stocked with everything needed for a perfect stay. Anna is great & appreciate her kindness and attentiveness. Highly recommend to anyone.
We get together yearly with my family and this year we decided to do historical VA and absolutely loved this house when we saw it on VRBO. It looks exactly like the pictures, so what youbsee is what you get The view from the balconies are phenomenal. Its close to a lot of things but still far enough away for a quiet retreat after a long day. Thanks so much for sharing your house with us!
We had a wonderful time here. The house was lovely with expansive river views in most of the rooms and an abundance of decks to enjoy the outdoors. Be aware that the house is on four levels so guests need to be prepared to navigate stairs. The grounds are beautiful and the vibe is very peaceful and oriented to nature. Just across the river are all of the historical sites and amenities within Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. We visited and enjoyed all three over the course of two separate days. With the ferry ride, plan on an hour to get to anything on the other side of the river but it's a peaceful and lovely crossing. The rest of our 9 day stay we relaxed on our side of the river. We had friends join us for the second half of our visit and the house easily accomodated everyone with a nice mix of privacy and group gathering spaces. Chippokes State Park is definitely worth a visit - great hiking along the river and interesting exhibits as the oldest working farm in the country. We tried two of the local restaurants (Surry Seafood Company and the Mexican restaurant) both were pleasant surprises - excellent fresh food well prepared). There is not much to do on the house side of the river but if you are looking for a peaceful place to relax, enjoy nature, connect with family or friends - it's a beautiful space I could highly recommend.
I can’t say enough about our stay in the River House. It was very grand, amazing, scenic views overlooking the James River, clean, spacious, peaceful, historical, and relaxing. What a truly amazing vacation spot. Thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The house was beautiful and unique and comfortable and clean! We had a great time! If you are OK with town being a drive 45 minutes or more. The river was peaceful and we just talked and chilled and cooked! Anna’s pizza in Surry was yummy!!
We sought a getaway to Williamsburg. When we found the Claremont River house, we were happy to book. We enjoy staying near/in Surry because the ferry ride is part of our experience.
Anna was great to work with. She was accommodating to our needs. This was definitely one of the nicer VRBO stays we’ve experienced.

Beautiful River House
This house is amazing! We rented this house to stay after our wedding and it was a quiet getaway. Lots of space. The owner was more than accommodating for us and we will be coming back.
We visited from Los Angeles. Anna was an amazing host. She even checked in before our visit to make sure all was well. The house was spectacular and was very secluded, which was the experience we were seeking. The property is amazing as well. Big open space, high on a hill overlooking the James River.
Myself and three buddies stayed in this beautiful home while fishing the James River. We made our wives jealous with every picture went sent of this home. I am trying to figure out our next trip with the wives to stay here again. It was immaculate, well stocked with everything you need, and a great overall all place to spend a quiet vacation. Thank you Anna for the perfect place!
The house was perfect for all of us. We could eat together, sit on back porch, watch wildlife, do our daily forays into all the areas around. Drink lots of coffee.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Claremont House. The peacefulness, the beauty of the 4 acres, the glimpses of wildlife, the lovely house with its wonderful architecture, and the beautiful James River all combined to give us the peace and relaxation we sought. This was a last minute get-away for our upcoming 40th wedding anniversary. Other plans had fallen through but the Claremont House was a wonderful Plan B. Anna and her mom were a delight and very helpful.
The location and layout of this beautiful home was perfect for our group of adults and children. Anna the host was beyond accommodating and was very patient and helpful whenever we needed her. We locked ourselves out of the interior rooms twice but it turned into an opportunity to meet some wonderful new people. Can't wait to go back next year.
Property as described. Remote but we didn’t find the commute to Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown to be excessive. The ferry ride went smoothly and gave us time to fine tune our daily plans and relax a bit after a day of sightseeing. Surry county is friendly and has wonderful historical sites as well
The house was perfect for all of the family to relax and be together. Because of work schedules it was impossible to be together over Christmas. They left up the Christmas tree so we could enjoy a late Christmas. The management was very helpful
Anna was responsive, attentive and professional during our stay. The house was perfect for us. We felt at home. The view was superb. We saw many Osprey and other birds as well as a momma deer and her fawn come very close to the house. We went to the "beach" for a sunset and it was amazing! The house is well appointed and had just about everything you could need for your stay. I highly recommend this house, you will not regret it!
