About this property
Beautifully Appointed Apartment metres away from the Place aux Herbes. Sleeps 2
The apartment is on the second floor of a beautiful elegant stone property likely to have been a clothing merchant's house dating from the early 18th C. It is positioned just off the famous Place aux Herbes in the heart of the historic old town and overlooked by the Duchy towers.
The apartment has recently been fully renovated to a very high standard. There are four very large double glazed opening windows, tall ceilings and white walls and tiled floors, which make for a very light and comfortable space. The mixture of French antique and contemporary styled furniture, original local artwork and well designed interior lighting help create a unique and stylish living space in the centre of the old town.
The kitchen and contents are all new and equipped with everything we believe you will likely need. An new attractive high quality walk-in shower was fitted in 2018 and the King sized double bed is very comfortable with quality cotton sheets and covers. In case you have a special request for one additional guest there is also a large comfortable double bed sofa within the main living space available by agreement.
Located on the second floor overlooking the narrow pedestrianised Rue de la Republique and facing one of the most important 1517 historic renaissance buildings in Uzes there are views towards the medieval square and Boulevard Gambetta.
On Saturday and Wednesday mornings you literally can walk straight out into the hustle and bustle of the market or take a few steps and visit one of the the many cafes and attractive shops within the centre.
Award winning Boulangeries, Boucheries, Tea Shops, Perfumeries, Boutiques, Bars, Wine Shops and Mini Supermarkets are literally within a few steps from the front door. You are in the heart of the town yet in the evening when the streets go quiet you can shut yourself off from the world by closing the wooden shutters and double glazed windows for total peace and quiet.
Everything that we think you may need is provided including two large modern fans to keep you cool during warmer weather; a Bose sound system; an induction cooker; a dishwasher; an automatic coffee machine; radio; toaster; new large 50’’ flat screen TV with smart multi chose of satellite channels; dvd; super fast WiFi; hairdryer; a comprehensive pack of local maps and information including recommendations for restaurants and local attractions and bus timetables if you are without a car. We try to use public transport if possible as the buses are so convenient and inexpensive no matter the distance. During the height of the hotter summer months we use the local outdoor Municipal 3M pool to cool down and laze. It’s about 5 mins walk away and around €5 a day.
Uzes is a unique and special place and we take great pleasure in guests having a relaxing and memorable time enjoying all the delights it has to offer.

About the host
Hosted by Simon and Suzanne

We are an English couple from the old market town of Knutsford, Cheshire, 15 miles south of Manchester. Suzanne is a Toy Inventor and I am a practising Architect. We love history, art, culture, walking and good food so it was fate that we discovered and fell in love with Uzes and sheer luck that we found our perfect apartment in December 2015.
We bought from a lovely Australian couple who share the same passions and it was a bonus to us to find out that the property had already established a great reputation and excellent reviews through VRBO. We didn't intend to rent out but to have as our own personal hideaway spot in this gorgeous part of France but as we are still very professionally very busy it makes sense and will give us pleasure to share with others of similar tastes.

Why they chose this property
I have been travelling to different parts of France for the last 30 years and often took cycling trips around the Cote D'Azur and Provence. On one visit nearly 25 years ago I was suffering from a bad back and needed to rest up and camped near the Pont du Gard. That evening I visited Uzes on a balmy evening in August and the elegance and Architectural charm had an this amazing impact upon me. I thought it was beautifuI and unspoilt. I only stayed a few hours but vowed to return one day. Well, I did, in December 2015 and 36 hours later we made an offer for this apartment.
What makes this property unique
It is a very spacious comfortable and relaxing place to stay in the heart of this unique living Medieval town. It is extremely light, airy and bright apartment for such an old property and decor is both contemporary and traditional. You will love being above the busy street in the heart of town yet its possible to hide away and enjoy peace and quiet when the shutters and windows are closed.
The property is managed by a young experienced local French lady who speaks reasonably good English and who will be there to meet and greet and help with anything you need during your stay.
Thankfully Uzes does not suffer from excessive tourism as with many Provencal towns and villages and appears to operate as much for the locals as for the tourists, even in the height of summer. We love the fact that everything we need is a few metres away from the front door and the quality of shops and restaurants is exceptional.
