About this property
Charming 1 bedroom-apartment in medieval village, 1 hour from Nice
The apartment is located on the third and fourth floors of a house dating from the 17th century. The house stands above the Var River next to the old drawbridge that is the main entrance into the village. During the day you can look down at the river, at night you hear its soft sounds. The living room and kitchen are on the third floor, the bedroom and bathroom are on the fourth floor.
The living room features oak ceiling beams, built-in cabinets, a marble fireplace and the traditional tile tile floor of Provence. It is furnished with antiques, contains a TV, radio and a good amount of books in English, German and French including dictionaries. The sofa pulls out into a comfortable queen-size bed. Two large windows face south and give a view of the river, the plaza and the mountainside across the river.
The kitchen is small but equipped with all modern conveniences: refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, stove and baking oven.
The bedroom is very cozy with its damask covered walls. It has two twin beds.
The bathroom with its small pink and gray features the typical deep European bathtub with a shower attachment.
All windows have double panes.
It is ideal for 2 people but with the pull out sofa in the living room, 2 children would also have a place to sleep and be comfortable.

About the host
Hosted by Nick Detsch

I am a native of Germany and have lived in the U.S. since 1974. My husband, a retired professor of German, and I have always spent much time traveling in Europe. When he retired, we had all of a sudden more time, more leisure, more freedom. That's why we decided to buy a small apartment in the south of France, so we could stay for as long as we wanted.
Why they chose this property
Why not get a place in Germany rather than France? We really love the south of France, the wine, food and the slow pace of life, and we wanted to improve our French. (I am still struggling.) Also, real estate in Entrevaux was very reasonable at the time, and the airport in Nice is just a quick trip away. It's easy to fly anywhere from there.
What makes this property unique
Entrevaux is different from Nice and many other villages because it is so authentic, so French. The locals go about their way as usual, tourists come during the day and leave at night. There is a peace about the place that is hard to find in other areas, and you are surrounded by history and dramatic nature.
