Down the hill from the house there is a bus stop and a nice restaurant pizzeria, where the chef organises very good cooking courses. walking up the hill there are many beautiful villas and, by the church, a breathtaking view of the whole valley, with the towers of Lucca in the distance.
Only 10 min from the house, there is the river park, where you can sunbathe, picnic, go bike riding or walk. In fact you can bike to town - about 20 minutes, or walk - about 45 minutes. About 2 km away there is a small supermarket with local food, and in the other direction there are a pharmacy, a bank, a pastry shop.
Lucca is only 5 km away, and is really worth seeing, a medieval city famous for its art and culture, birth place of the opera composer Giacomo Puccini. It is surrounded by a circle of walls, unique in the world, where one can go jogging, walking and admire splendid landscapes. The town is almost entirely closed to traffic, it is nice to walk in the narrow streets whith many typical restaurants, museums, artisan and jewellery shops, concerts and exhibits.
The house is situated on the Wine tasting route of the Lucchesian Hills, and only about 15 km from the famous wine village of Montecarlo, where one can visit the wineries.
The sea is 15 minutes away, with famous vacation towns like Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, one of the most exclusive beaches in Italy.There you can rent an ombrella and cabin and swim, have lunch on the beach and experience the Italian idea of a vacation. For lovers of bird-watching, the lake of Massaciuccoli, between Lucca and Viareggio is really beautiful and worth a hike.
Many other places can also be reached in a one-day excursion: Pisa is at 20 km, Florence and Cinque Terre are only about 1 hour away, as Pietrasanta,famous among sculptors from all over the world for the bronze foundries. Not far are the marble mountains, Alpi Apuane, where you can go hiking and visit the marble quarries, and the Appenines for hiking and climbing.
