My family and I loved our stay at the Big Dipper Cottage. I loved the privacy and waking up to the beautiful view. House was clean and had everything we needed. Peggy was wonderful to work with. We will be back!

Awesome Cottage!!!!
We went for our 5th anniversary! The cottage and surroundings were just breathtaking!!!!! I never saw so many stars in my life! We had great fires and relaxed...The house is adorable and has everything you need! We can't wait to return to Big Dipper Cottage!!!! Loved it!!!!!!
The owner was very nice too!!!!!!!
We have been vacationing in the St. Lawrence for years, this was by far the best choice we’ve made in accommodations, not too rustic, but still with a lovely cabiny charm. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Peggy was a pleasure to deal with. The home was cozy and comfortable and had everything I needed to cook meals and relax. Can’t beat the scenery and nature around us. We loved every minute.
Couldn’t use dock as water was too low but we had no issues launching at Chippewa bay, it was super close and the next best thing to having boat on site.
Will definitely be looking forward to staying here again.
What a great place in a great location. The cottage itself was really nice. Well equipped kitchen, eating area and a very nicely sized great room. Lots of windows overlooking the deck and the view beyond. The deck, which very nice with lots of seating and and outdoor eating area as well. The grill worked perfectly.
The property itself sits off the St Lawrence in a little cove that had beautiful Lilly pads growing. There's a dock, and a nicely sloped area for kayak access. We kayaked every day and were very pleased with shelter that the islands in the distance provided from the busier areas of the river. Paddling was easy in both upstream and downstream directions.
We had a really nice experience and I just can say enough, about the peace and quiet and relaxing time we were able to spend during our week at the Big Dipper.
The house and property are exactly as pictured and described. Peggy is quick to respond to inquiries and she and her daughter, Kasey, are very pleasant and gracious. The house is tastefully decorated and thoughtfully stocked with everything you can think of! Bring your sheets, pillows, clothes and toiletries and settle in! The view of the water is relaxing and calming. The neighborhood is quiet and there are plenty of natural amusements watching the chipmunks, squirrels, deer and water wildlife. The boat dock is large and has electricity. We caught tons of fish around Singer Island!!The house has all the conveniences of home with kitchen appliances, cookware, and glasses. The refrigerator, microwave and stove/oven are new! The living room windows offer a great view of the water.Bedrooms are spacious and have dressers and closets with hangers. The bathroom is neat and clean. The laundry room has new washer/dryer that are full size. The living room has plenty of comfortable seating for 8 people and a large TV. The Dining room table. Seats 6 people easily. The water pressure is great and no lack of hot water. There is plenty of outdoor seating and a fire pit! We stayed for 2 weeks and had friends visit throughout our time there and there was plenty of parking areas. I would definitely recommend the Big Dipper Cottage and we hope Peggy accepts our reservation for the same time next year!!

Christine & her family were excellent guests! Very cordial and easy to communicate with. They were very appreciative and respectful of our home. They left it clean and in great shape. Looking forward to hosting again in the future!
We truly enjoyed our 2-week stay. This is a wonderful location for fishing and enjoying nature/bird watching. On arrival, the home was nice and clean, with plenty of room for the two of us and our dog (who loved it here too). We were very happy with the modern appliances and well-supplied kitchen, since we planned on doing most of our own cooking. The grill worked well, and appreciated the fire ring. Dock was great, and although Chippewa bay is quite shallow (2-4 ft) overall, we were able to tie up our boat rental at the dock and access the rest of the river from here pretty easily. My husband was thrilled by the fishing right off the dock in the evening--among his catches, a 14 inch chubby largemouth bass, a 32 inch bowfin, and a large bullhead catfish. A real whopper we think was a muskelunge actually bent and broke his steel leader before making off, and appeared to be around 4 ft long (could be seen in the water as he pulled it up)! Now he has a great fish story about "the one who got away"! The calm bay is also nice for canoeing and kayaking without worry about being swamped by speedboats. Along with fish, we really enjoyed the birds and wildlife, as well as the secluded and quiet setting. When it was time to turn in for the night, the bed was comfortable and the ceiling fans helped keep the evenings cool during a hot spell. Recommended, especially for nature-lovers and fishing enthusiasts!

Jennifer, So happy you and your husband enjoyed your stay! Love your appreciation of our home and the great fishing experiences you had! The fish will be waiting should you and your family decide to return. :)
My Dad and I have been coming to the 1000 Islands for about 18 years, and this is by far the worst cottage we have Ever stayed at. The dock broke when I stepped on it to get to my boat, so my Dad was unable to get into our boat to fish the rest of the trip. When we first arrived on Saturday we found carpenter ants and mouse droppings everywhere! They were on the kitchen table, in the bed, on the kitchen floor, and bedroom floors, bathroom sink, kitchen sink and floors everywhere! The ceiling in this cottage has several large cracks (one is 15ft long) in the drywall and a big patch job from looks like a roof leak that is unfinished. There is also paint and wallpapering unfinished. The front screen door is taped because it is broken, we had to keep taping it so the flys would stay out. The front door was leaking water, so when it rained we had to have a towel to clean up water. The water pressure in the shower is extremely low. All the sinks and the one shower constantly spit air out not water. The neighbors to the right have 2 dogs (one is deaf) that constantly bark all day and come over uninvited. The furniture is extremely worn and beat. The utility room (across from the bedrooms) has a very rusted 31 yr old water heater that gurgles constantly, the door to the room was removed so we would here these noises all day. We were extremely unhappy with our stay at this cottage. We would not recommend it to anybody.

Chad was by far the worst guest we've ever encountered, and his review is highly fabricated and inaccurate. We received daily phone calls from him about every little inconvenience he could think of. He constantly complained and demanded a $1000 refund or he would post a negative review. We allowed his dog into our home and the entire house, furniture and floors were covered with dog hair. He left a bacon-greased filled pan in the oven--totally disgusting. Cottage is very secluded on 3.5 acres of land, so of course there are critters. We pride our home with cleanliness, but an occasional mouse dropping may appear, but never in our beds! There are no roof leaks; the prior owner removed a fireplace so there are repair marks in the ceiling from the removal. We've upgraded our water system and it works great! The water tank does not "gurgle" constantly and the door was removed to install a brand new washer & dryer and flooring--which he managed to stain. Our furniture is totally adequate and comfortable--just look at our pictures! While I wish I could predict the future, I couldn’t prevent the minor mishap of the floating portion of the dock separating from the fixed dock. It was fixed immediately. We occupy the house for 2 weeks for our family vacation every summer and we never hear the dogs barking next door. Since he was not happy about anything, he basically trashed our house. I would not recommend Chad as a guest in your home.
Everything went well checking in. The place was clean. Fire pit was nice to relax in the evening. Fishing was good. Only problem was the river was low and couldn’t use the dock. Boat launch was only 2miles away. No fault of the owner. Looking forward to next year.
2 bedroom(1 double In master, 1 rm with double over double bunk ) 1 bath home on river with dock and large uncovered deck with some seating and a table to eat at while enjoying the view. Large windows to see vew from kitchen and living room. Only 10-15 minutes car drive to alex bay. 5 minutes car ride to state chippewa bay boat launch where we left our trailer, 10 Min car ride to kring point State park to use beach and playground. Washer and dryer. Kitchen stocked well withpots/pans/dishes etc. Good parking. Great communication with owner. We rented it because it had a dock. Quiet. The view was so relaxing with sunsets and may different birds landng in bay. Bed in 'master' is very firm . The firepit is on a slope so its somewhat difficult to sit around it as a group to chat or roast marshmallows. There is a picnic table to help this. We would rent again for the dock, good space, relaxing and quiet view and good communication. Thank you very much for renting out your beautiful home!!
My wife and I booked a week long stay at the Big Dipper cottage. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Spacious living area very comfortable. Nice deck with a gas grill to enjoy some outdoor cooking. There’s also a fire pit and picnic table just off the deck. For the fishing families. A nice dock with power to charge your batteries is available. Fishing Chippewa Bay was great. Didn’t have to go far to find good fishing. Steve was right there to answer any questions or help with any inconvenience. All around great stay. Definitely coming back.
Beautifully well kept and furnished get away. pictures are accurate but don't do justice to it's surroundings. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to visit the area!
The rental was wonderful. Close to the sites and very private as well. We brought our two dogs and they were able to play without disturbing anyone. Our grandson enjoyed fishing from the dock trying to catch the big one.
This cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Quite setting in the woods right on the St Lawrence. Our group was there to fish, launch ramp was 1 mile away, the dock was great with lights and electricity to charge batteries. House had everything that we needed. The owners were great to work with and brought us a couple items that we requested. The smallmouth bass fishing was great, walleye fishing provided great meals. We visited Singer castle which is directly in front of the cabin and had a great tour. We would definitely rent their cabin again.
Fishing, otters, Herons, turtles,Bald Eagles, we humans seemed out of place
Great place, comfortable furnishings and huge deck. Couldn't ask for more. We had a few hiccups with the satellite TV and WiFi but even though Steve was out of the countr, he y still got a hold of us to help resolve both! That ( I feel ) is beyond the call of duty. Thanks for a great week Steve.
Great location - Relaxing, quiet area of Chippewa Bay
This was our first trip to the Thousand Islands area. We planned outings every day to different towns/sights in the area - Kingston Ontario, Wellesley Island, The Eisenhower Lock, Cape Vincent, Clayton, Alex Bay, several boat tours, and a fishing charter - The Big Dipper served as the ideal 'home base' to visit all this area has to offer.
Though we were gone most of the day, we did enjoy kayaking in the early morning and in the evening - two kayaks are included with the rental. The dock is a great spot to relax and enjoy the evening and even cast a fishing line. It was nice to be surrounded by nature instead of other people!! Being from a bright, suburban area, it was amazing to see the star-filled sky at night - and of course the big dipper!
The house is as advertised with very comfortable furniture and a well-stocked kitchen. Wifi came in handy when we wanted to book boat tours, purchase Canadian fishing licenses, etc.
We love the house and the views of all the boats and animals in the bay/river. The weather was beautiful this year which made our stay very comfortable. Thanks for the wi-fi this year as we both need to work during time off. (just a little) Hopefully, we can return again next year. Thanks Steve
Great location on a small inlet/cove just a little east of Alexandria Bay. Property is just as described in the listing. Open floor plan, plenty of space, great views, huge porch/deck overlooking the cove and St Lawrence Seaway. All the necessities and then some. Plenty of cookware, dishes, toiletries, etc. They even had wood to use in the fire pit and lifejackets to use with the provided kayaks. Stephen was responsive to all questions. Highly recommended property.
We enjoyed our stay at the Big Dipper cottage. The camp was very clean and well stocked with kitchen essentials. The open concept great room and kitchen felt roomy and had beautiful views of the water. We enjoyed fishing from the dock, campfires at night and visiting nearby Alexandria Bay. We will definitely stay here again!
