The beautiful and large Carib Edge beachfront penthouse studio offers a good sea view and is situated on the exclusive West Coast of Barbados. The condo is separated from the beach by a small road with local traffic only. The famous Baia beach restaurant & lounge bar is opposite.
A special amenity is the easy walking distance to shops, bars, the bus station, etc. No rental car is needed therefore, everything can be reached on foot or by bus in a few minutes. Many other apartments in Barbados are distant from the beach and/or shops!
The penthouse is part of the small condominium-complex WhiteSands. The penthouse is at the northern end of the building with many windows to open; the trade winds allow nice ventilation in the rooms, but full AC and ceiling fans are present. The well-fitted penthouse studio for 2-3 persons is the only one in the WhiteSands building on one level. The beach directly in front of WhiteSands and the famous Heywoods beach in five minutes walking distance makes it ideal also for a family with a child. A high chair and a crib are available upon request. Bath, kitchen and beach towels as well as snorkelling equipment and beach chairs are provided. Housekeeping (maid service) and change of bed linen and towels are done weekly. Welcome pack with basic food is possible, if ordered in advance.
Local telephone calls are unlimited, fast internet (glass fibre) is present.

The spacious (1168 sq. ft.) and well fit out accommodation is a romantic getaway for couples and an ideal place to unwind in a Caribbean atmosphere in the condo or on the large terrace. The flat is not suited for wheelchairs, because it is a penthouse on the second floor (no elevator).

Overview:
BEDROOM: one, large bedroom with a queen-size bed, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, two windows. The blinds on both widows darken the bedroom almost completely. A sofa bed on wheels can be placed in the living room if needed.

More details:
(i) Living room with very comfortable seating for up to 6 persons, WiFi, Smart Cable TV, Android box for TV and movies, bluetooth music dock, bookshelf, computer working place (with extra monitor, printer), two AC and two ceiling fans.
(ii) The unhurried, relaxing atmosphere continues to the large, partly covered terrace, equipped with a dining table and chairs for 4 persons, two sun-loungers, and two sun umbrellas. The terrace has also an electric grill and is ideal for dining outside ("al fresco"). From the terrace, you have a direct view of the azure Caribbean sea. Opposite, towards the west, is the Baia restaurant & lounge bar, which blocks part of the view, but you have still a wide panorama of the sea looking southwest and northwest, but also over the roof of the restaurant.
(iii) Modern, very well equipped kitchen, where 4 persons can dine;
(iv) A corridor leads to the pleasant, large bedroom (see above) and the bathroom with walk-in shower, washbasin, toilet, small cabinet, next door to the sleeping room. An additional toilet is one flight of stairs down, outside the penthouse.
(vi) Washing machine and tumble dryer are in the corridor.

Great accommodation in a great location

This property was exactly as described in the ad and the pictures. Everything that we needed was available. The location is perfect, just close enough to get to everthing you need like grocery stores, restaurants etc very easily; yet far enough away so that you can enjoy quiet beaches with excellent snorkeling. The hosts, Thilo and Maria, and the caretaker, Sonja were exceptionally quick to respond to any and all queries. I would definitely stay here again and strongly recommend it anyone planning a trip to Barbados.

Location was good: walking distance to everything we needed. Mobility: bus station a 1 minute walk. Beaches: nice beaches within walking distance Food: Good tasting local food. Location, location, location

Nice open concept with a beautiful balcony situated in a such way that captures the tropical breezes and stunning sunsets. Right across the street from a four star restaurant, down the block from a stellar bakery and within walking distance from the best fish cutters on the island at the Caboose, known by the locals as “the boat”. This town has beautiful sand bottom beaches with umbrellas, chairs and a nice mix of upscale bars and local establishments. This VRBO with it’s many amenities gives you everything you could want in an island vacation.

Fabulous Carib Edge penthouse on the beach

We stayed for one week in the apartment in July 2016. Everything was perfect in the airy apartment, the large, partly covered terrace with sea view, allowing to observe the sunset, the comfortable, bright living room and kitchen with everything you need, a very good mattress of the queen size bed, and a newly renovated bathroom. The condo was clean, comfortable, and very well stocked with all appliances….owners thought about everything to make the guests feel at home. Nice neighborhood and excellent beach! Thilo, the gist, communicated promptly and accurately. Have to take some stairs to access the property, could be a slight workout. The property was very secure, with private and gates access. I would recommend, and stay there again.

What a fantastic property! Spacious and very comfortable apartment. The owner has thought of everything we could possible need. The owner was excellent at responding to queries. The caretaker was an angel and met us at the apartment on arrival. We saw her most days and she was really helpful and informative. The location is perfect, quiet and peaceful but very close to local amenities. The beach is across the road from the apartment. I cannot fault the property or the location. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet and peaceful holiday.

Wonderful stay

My mother and I stayed for a week. The apartment was in an ideal location with easy access to buses, mini vans, supermarkets and restaurants. The apartment itself is a wonderful space with everything needed to feel completely at home. Thilo is a responsive host who provided all of the details we would need from taxi services, the necessary codes and directions to make accessing the apartment easy, and valuable info about the area. He was there to meet us and gave a quick tour of the apartment. Overall the building is quiet and very well maintained. While accessible to transportation, restaurants etc. Sand street is quiet and very peaceful.

My husband and I stayed 5 nights in the Carib Edge and we only wish we had longer! It is a beautiful space, in a fantastic location, convenient for shops/restaurants (it's a small town so everything is walkable) and right across from the beach which we often had to ourselves! The apartment is looked after with with care and well equipped with everything we needed - kitchen supplies, beach gear, even snorkels and masks which we used every day - there's an amazing coral reef all the way up the coast so if you like to snorkel this is the spot for it. Thilo was an incredible host right from the start - providing us with detailed information about the apartment and the area, and answering all of our questions quickly. We would go back in a heartbeat! Thank you Thilo.

Just Fabulous

Thilo's place is incredibly comfortable. I thought we would get there and maybe the furniture or something was not going to be up to snuff and generally not meeting our standards but it exceeded our standards. The apartment is great. It's close to everything in Speightstown. We got up early in the morning and went to the bread store which is pretty much steps away. A wonderful restaurant (Hugo's) is right across the street. You are not too far a drive to Holetown and multiple restaurants and entertainment there. The beach is right across the street. Thilo has snorkeling equipment in the apartment and it was available for us to use. I can't say enough about the accommodations. But more importantly, Thilo and his team were very helpful with any questions that we had. They provided tips on things to see and places to go. It was just a wonderful vacation. Thank you for sharing your space with us. We look forward to visiting again.

Fantastic beachfront penthouse

The Carib Edge penthouse was a wonderful place to stay. Our hosts made everything to feel us at home in their place in the Caribbean. The penthouse is very well equipped, tastefully furnished, has a large terrace which is open to the west and north and allows therefore a wide view. We enjoyed sitting there for our breakfast and especially in the afternoon and evening, watching the sunset, the birds, and enjoying the trade winds. The location is really great: a mostly empty beach in front of the condo, and this just a few minutes away from town (actually a very small one), where you find all amenties needed. Speightstown is not crowded by tourists, you see the local Bajan population doing their shopping, selling and buying vegetables on the street. No rental car necessary if you want to enjoy the beach live. If you want to exolore the island a car is convenient oif course, perhaps just for a few days. But almost all places can be reached by bus, which is very cheap indeed. This is an ideal place but perhaps not for people enjoying disco music and loud nightlife. If you want this, go to the south coast! We will certainly return!

Perfect location

We know the block and were a smaller party than usual, but still wanted the penthouse feel, so we chose Carib Edge. I can not speak highly enough of Thilo who has communicated right through booking process and informed us of changes in local covid policy, etc. He even let us know when there was a water problem (burst main up the road), which is super efficient. The apartment is well furnished and the kitchen has everything I could have needed to cook in a permanent basis. Thanks Thilo - this was great.

Third Time Wonderful Too

Our third visit was every bit as enjoyable as our previous two stays. Carib Edge is a wonderful place to relax and appreciate the warmth and ocean breezes - both inside the spacious apartment, and out on the large patio. The apartment is well equipped and very comfortable. Speightstown is small, and relatively quiet, but has all the basic necessities, along with a handful of good restaurants and bars, and an amazing bakery. Swimming directly in front of the unit was excellent again this year at high tide, although in October it does depend on the weather. The beaches just north of Carib Edge are great, too, with all the new breakwaters, and work the government did. All in all this is the perfect spot to kick back and relax, either for the entire day, or after a busy day of exploring or other activity.

The owners Maria and Thilo are both geologists, travelling a lot. They were looking for a safe harbor in an area not overcrowded by tourists, and found it here in Speightstown. We stay several times per year in the apartment and rent it out when it is not occupied by ourselves.

Why they chose this property

We stayed many years in Barbados and preferred always the west coast as compared to the much more crowded south, where the ocean waves are normally high. After several visits to the island we bought first the Coral Sands apartment in the small White Sands condominium complex which is just underneath the 2017 purchased Carib Edge penthouse, advertised here. The Speightstown area has some tourism but is not at all overcrowded by tourists, it is more characterized by local "Bajan" live. Expensive touristic properties like Port St. Charles, Port Ferdinand or Nikki`s beach club are, however, in walking distance.

What makes this property unique

The penthouse is in easy walking distance to shops, bars, the bus station, etc., and the beach is in front, so many of our guests do not rent a car. For several other apartments in Barbados a rental car is absolutely essential.
The apartment is quite large (1168 sq. ft.) and nicely equipped with modern furniture allowing relaxed sitting. The kitchen is well stocked with electric equipment and everything else you might need. The ceilings are very high and have fans. This and the many windows to open provide a pleasant atmosphere, so that the AC present is only rarely necessary. An ideal place to unwind in real Caribbean atmosphere, a romantic getaway for couples.
