Miles of wide beaches, an unobstructed view of the Gulf of Mexico,
varied seashells, the sounds of the birds, (flamingos, pelicans,
ducks, osprey, eagles, kingfisher, etc.), the peace, tranquility and
quietness that reign, and the fact that the house is near enough to
other attractions (Mayan ruins, colonial cities) but far enough way
to feel remote.
No razzle dazzle, no discos, no neon signs, no traffic, no wild
night life, no fine dining, no shopping malls or plazas, no hoards
of tourists. Las Tunas is for people who are looking to get away
from it all and have a “Mexican experience.” This is not a tourist
trap destination. If you do want all the razzle-dazzle above, check
out Cancun, Playa del Carmen or the Riviera Maya.
How you'd spend your free time:
Reading, sun bathing, strolling on the beach, bird watching,
collecting shells, relaxing in the pool, taking siestas in a
hammock, going to the local harbor to buy fresh fish, going to the
village market for produce, cooking in the large, comfortable ktiche, trying Yucatecan food that is sold cheaply, practicing your Spanish with the caretaker, visiting the nearby Mayan pyramids of X-Cambo (10 mins. from the house) or Chichen Itza (1.5 hrs.), Dzibichaltun (45 mins), Uxmal (1.5
hour), the colonial city of Merida (1 hour), playing golf (45
minutes), driving the back sandy roads of the village investigating,
driving to the other nearby fishing villages, RELAXING.
There is an international airport in Merida with direct flights from
Houston, Miami, Dallas / Ft. Worth and Mexico City. The Merida airport is one hour from
The village has a Main Plaza and tiny local market for fruits,
veggies and meat; there are shops for other staples, twp bakeries,
internet cafes, and several restaurants open for lunch (the main meal
in Mexico.) One of the charms of Las Tunas is that there is a village
just 3.5kms away for shopping and errands.

About Judy Abbott Mier y Teran
I came to Merida as a college sophomore 48 years ago for a three-month Spanish course. I met a local, got married, started a successful business (Yucatan Today - THE tourist guide to the Yucatan), raised a family and am now doing philanthropical work in education in Telchac Puerto. Las Tunas is our beach home, but we can't be there year-round, so we choose to rent it to others who will love and treat it as we do. A beach home that is lived in fares better with the salty atmosphere. Our onsite caretaker makes life at Las Tunas easy and enjoyable. Las Tunas is our home - not a cold rental. We only remove our clothes when we rent, so everything for your comfort is left there - pots and pans, serving dishes, wine glasses, cozy blankets, hammocks galore, coffee grinder.....everything. And, the caretaker will greet you with a warm meal on the day of your arrival. Welcome to Las Tunas.

What makes this House unique
Having a hot meal awaiting you on your arrival day is the perfect way to end a travel day and start your vacation. Our onsite caretaker makes life at Las Tunas easy. She sweeps the house four times a week and will help with more housework and cook for an optional fee. We have no wall to wall neighbors so you have privacy. Some say Las Tunas is remote, but at the same time, we are near the village if you need to pick something up.
