Great Unit, Prime Location
Such a beautiful property! This rental was perfect for us. The unit was well maintained, clean, and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed for our stay: paper towels, laundry detergent, toilet paper, dish soap, etc.: The kitchen was ideal for making meals at home, with plenty of dishes, spices, wine glasses, etc. and the linen closet had a stack of beach towels. Plus, there was a cooler, beach chairs, and even a full size surf board! We felt right at home. Close to Keauhou shopping center, a nice snorkel spot (Kahalu’u), and just a short drive into town. The owner Sally was very responsive and provided us with a useful list of places to visit on the island. I can’t say enough about how great the location was, directly on a nice secluded beach. The master bedroom has a panoramic view of the gorgeous blue Pacific and swaying palm trees. The second bedroom overlooks quiet gardens. No complaints at all. I would highly recommend this property!

Perfect location! Nice ocean breeze with the sound of waves breaking. Can't wait to come again.
This is a beautiful townhouse in a spectacular location. I will definitely stay here again! The property was spotlessly clean, decorated in a tasteful tropical décor. We had breakfasts and dinners on the lanai which overlooks the ocean; a stunning view. The lanai is just steps away from a perfect black sand beach lined with coconut palms. You can walk down a short path to the ocean and you’ll see green turtles swimming or lounging on the sand (if you are lucky!) and tropical fish bobbing up and down in the waves. I particularly liked sitting on the beach in the evenings to watch the sunset and drink cocktails. Pure heaven. The kitchen was well stocked with every type of cooking item I needed (plus some condiments and spices). Parking was easy, with an assigned spot next to the townhouse. BBQ’s were just a few steps away from the unit and not crowded. The townhouse does not have air conditioning. It has several ceiling fans and louvred windows, though, which let the ocean air inside. So, I was quite comfortable. The resort is nice, with large swimming pool, lush landscaping, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, and even a lending library. Just a short ¼ mile walk away is Kahalu’u State Beach Park, a great place to snorkel. We walked here each morning. I enjoyed falling to sleep each night to the sound of the waves. Pure heaven. I did not want to leave!

Renters beware!
This unit was not as pristine as the vrbo pictures show. During our stay we experienced an infestation of cockroaches, uncleanliness, and appliances that were in terrible condition. Cockroaches (as well as ants) were in the cupboards, dishwasher, microwave, under the sink, and even the shower! Maid did not clean as was evident with dried spaghetti noodles on floor, garbage under couch, m&ms and cereal on carpet, leftover soap in shower, no handtowels set out, ants on couch due to food and sand between cushions, and a slider door that you could barely see out of. Garbage disposal was plugged, coffee maker did not work, toaster was rusted inside and out along with live cockroaches on crumb tray. Owners solution was for us to go buy a coffemaker and send her the receipt. Checkin instructions also indicated that if there was no toilet paper or handsoap, then go buy some and send her the receipt. As for the cockroaches, owner left that in our hands as well and suggested contacting property manager to see if he could put some "poison"down. Owner did refund us the cleaning fee,but that was all for this unpleasant vacation!

Fantastic base to explore the Big Island
I fully recommend KKSRC and Sally's townhouse in particular as an excellent choice as a base to discover the Big Island. Pros: oceanfront end-unit located at the edge of the property, right next to the beach; fully equipped kitchen; plenty of towels and bedding and laundry facilities; everything you need for a day escape to the North Kona beaches or Volcano National Park; close to shopping and restaurants; fantastic host is welcoming and responsive. Cons: on days when there's less of a breeze the unit can get quite warm in the afternoon even with the windows open and the fans running; those less familiar with the tropics may be uncomfortable with the bugs who unfortunately love to share our oceanfront paradise.

I am a retired engineer and community volunteer living in Santa Clara, California. I was born in Hawaii 62 years ago when my father was in the army, based on Mauna Kea on the Big Island. When I was growing up, my family would migrate to Hawaii each August for our annual vacation. My sister and I now own this townhouse. We put considerable effort and pride into maintaining, updating, and decorating our Hawaiian paradise which we view as a priceless treasure.

Why they chose this property

This property has been passed down through the generations. My father and mother purchased it because they loved this unique location and viewed it as the finest in the Hawaiian Islands. My father was an avid snorkeler and scuba diver. We spent our family vacations when I was growing up exploring the ocean reefs in front of KKSRC #5.

What makes this property unique

Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet Club, Townhouse #5 is located right on a gorgeous quiet beach. It is one of the very few properties on the entire island which have oceanfront privacy and solitude, Also, the ocean reefs directly in front off KKSRC #5 offer some of the most pristine, clear snorkeling and scuba diving in the world. Also, when the surf is up (normally in the winter), renters can use the surf board in the townhouse to surf the waves! Honu, Hawaiian Sea Turtles, can be seen almost every day on the beach. Locals call this location a 'Honu Haven' because it is one of the few resting places for this gorgeous turtle. During low tide Hawaiian petroglyphs can be seen on the rocks which form tide pools. This is a wonderful location to begin learning about ancient Hawaiian history!
