The pictures don't do it justice! This is a nicely updated and tastefully decorated townhouse just a few steps from the ocean. You can't find anything closer!
It has all necessary amenities and then some! Our older son really enjoyed the boogie board.
Thank you Sally for the hospitality of your house and for the dining and sightseeing recommendations!
We had a wonderful stay in this condo. It was very clean, stocked with basic things that made it easier to enjoy the beaches such as chairs, beach towels, and boogie boards, etc. We listened to the waves at night while we slept, and the ocean breeze was so soothing throughout the night. It’s location felt private (end unit) and was literally steps to the ocean. We used the community grill one night, and met some very nice locals. We enjoyed the pool as well. Truly could not have asked for more. Mahalo.
Such a beautiful property! This rental was perfect for us. The unit was well maintained, clean, and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed for our stay: paper towels, laundry detergent, toilet paper, dish soap, etc.: The kitchen was ideal for making meals at home, with plenty of dishes, spices, wine glasses, etc. and the linen closet had a stack of beach towels. Plus, there was a cooler, beach chairs, and even a full size surf board! We felt right at home. Close to Keauhou shopping center, a nice snorkel spot (Kahalu’u), and just a short drive into town. The owner Sally was very responsive and provided us with a useful list of places to visit on the island. I can’t say enough about how great the location was, directly on a nice secluded beach. The master bedroom has a panoramic view of the gorgeous blue Pacific and swaying palm trees. The second bedroom overlooks quiet gardens. No complaints at all. I would highly recommend this property!
Perfect location! Nice ocean breeze with the sound of waves breaking. Can't wait to come again.
This is a beautiful townhouse in a spectacular location. I will definitely stay here again! The property was spotlessly clean, decorated in a tasteful tropical décor. We had breakfasts and dinners on the lanai which overlooks the ocean; a stunning view. The lanai is just steps away from a perfect black sand beach lined with coconut palms. You can walk down a short path to the ocean and you’ll see green turtles swimming or lounging on the sand (if you are lucky!) and tropical fish bobbing up and down in the waves. I particularly liked sitting on the beach in the evenings to watch the sunset and drink cocktails. Pure heaven. The kitchen was well stocked with every type of cooking item I needed (plus some condiments and spices). Parking was easy, with an assigned spot next to the townhouse. BBQ’s were just a few steps away from the unit and not crowded. The townhouse does not have air conditioning. It has several ceiling fans and louvred windows, though, which let the ocean air inside. So, I was quite comfortable. The resort is nice, with large swimming pool, lush landscaping, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, and even a lending library. Just a short ¼ mile walk away is Kahalu’u State Beach Park, a great place to snorkel. We walked here each morning. I enjoyed falling to sleep each night to the sound of the waves. Pure heaven. I did not want to leave!

Renters beware!
This unit was not as pristine as the vrbo pictures show. During our stay we experienced an infestation of cockroaches, uncleanliness, and appliances that were in terrible condition. Cockroaches (as well as ants) were in the cupboards, dishwasher, microwave, under the sink, and even the shower! Maid did not clean as was evident with dried spaghetti noodles on floor, garbage under couch, m&ms and cereal on carpet, leftover soap in shower, no handtowels set out, ants on couch due to food and sand between cushions, and a slider door that you could barely see out of. Garbage disposal was plugged, coffee maker did not work, toaster was rusted inside and out along with live cockroaches on crumb tray. Owners solution was for us to go buy a coffemaker and send her the receipt. Checkin instructions also indicated that if there was no toilet paper or handsoap, then go buy some and send her the receipt. As for the cockroaches, owner left that in our hands as well and suggested contacting property manager to see if he could put some "poison"down. Owner did refund us the cleaning fee,but that was all for this unpleasant vacation!
Everything you need! Ocean breezes. Patio overlooking the sea. Well stocked kitchen. Beach towels, chairs, boogie boards. No A/C but fresh air and sunshine.
I fully recommend KKSRC and Sally's townhouse in particular as an excellent choice as a base to discover the Big Island.
Pros: oceanfront end-unit located at the edge of the property, right next to the beach; fully equipped kitchen; plenty of towels and bedding and laundry facilities; everything you need for a day escape to the North Kona beaches or Volcano National Park; close to shopping and restaurants; fantastic host is welcoming and responsive.
Cons: on days when there's less of a breeze the unit can get quite warm in the afternoon even with the windows open and the fans running; those less familiar with the tropics may be uncomfortable with the bugs who unfortunately love to share our oceanfront paradise.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sally's Hawaiian Home Away from Home. Sally is a most accomodating host, providing easy check-in/check-out, local tips, and a very quick response time to our queries. The location is perfect, just a few steps to the beach, a couple of blocks to the grocery store, and easy access to the "highway". We will definitely return!
What a fantastic week! There was literally nothing we needed. Sally’s home was so well appointed. The sunset views from the verandah were amazing. Access to the northern beaches was easy. Mauna Kea and the National Park also wonderfully accessible. Sam Choys just a few minutes drive was superb food. Most of the time we got take out and sat outside the house and watched the sun go down. Didn’t need to be anywhere else than at the house for the ocean views and gorgeous breezes through the house. Everything was provided for. Such a wonderful stay! Would highly recommend staying here. Just wonderful.
This place is a gem! The location is amazing, KKSRC’s grounds are beautifully kept, the townhouse is right on the ocean with just a few steps to the beach (not for swimming) where we saw sea turtles almost daily and the sunsets are spectacular. Eat outside on the patio to enjoy the ocean and sunset views.
We kept the bedroom windows and doors open at night to let the ocean breeze in and this kept the temperature very comfortable in late June. Due to the sound of the waves we never heard our neighbors and the condo complex overall was very quiet. The pool at KKSRC is also nice with a shallow end for the littles and a deep end for the adults.
Kahalu’u Beach Park is only half a mile away and offers great snorkeling.
There’s also a shopping area with a grocery store, shave ice, some restaurants, etc. just up the hill from KKSRC which was very convenient.
We had a wonderful time and hope to stay at Sally’s place again.
We had a fantastic stay! The condo was very clean, the kitchen stocked with the essentials, plenty of paper towels, towel paper, linens, pillows, books, games, toiletries, etc. Beautiful sunsets over the ocean each night right outside the back door. Loved going to sleep to the waves each night. Check in was super easy and flexible. The neighborhood was quiet and well kept. Shopping was close by as were numerous other beaches. Easy to get to the airport, city, farmer's market and numerous points of interest.
The layout has the two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and the kitchen, dining, living room and a second bathroom downstairs. Plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers to spread out and come together. The washer and dryer were also very handy for our bunch.
Would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for something a bit more laid back with easy access to everything.
You dive into another world, the sound of the ocean, the nature around you and a humid climate
The condominium is clean, silent and well organized.
You find a well prepared kitchen, some beach tools under the stairs and beach towels for own using
We had a great time and would love to come back again
Snorkeling, fabulous sunsets, and ocean creatures right there. Entertainment and conveniences nearby. Everything most households need is provided. Thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at this beautiful ocean side property.
This is my second stay at Sally’s townhouse and I hope it won’t be my last. It’s location is both stunning and convenient- very hard to come by that at a rate one can afford these days. It’s well equipped and comfortable. It was pretty hot and sultry this stay so the fans were essential- no breezes! There was a bagpiper who played for about 10 minutes several mornings on the beach at 8 am which was unique and unexpected. As last time the place was clean upon arrival. We did wonder where all the knives were tho - I found them as we were doing our final load of dishes- they were in the sneaky top shelf of the super quiet Bosch dishwasher! Thank you Sally for providing such a nice vacation rental.
You cannot beat the location of this property. It was amazing. Closest we have ever stayed to the ocean. We saw green turtles feeding right of the shore of the beach daily. The condo is a little tired and some things could use replacing like the bed sheets (very pilled at the feet). The fridge wont seal all the way unless you push it very firmly closed (esp on the bottom). We had to reclean the bathrooms (toothpaste and such on counters and mirrors) and sweep the floor in the main living area when we arrived. The location however really trumps it all. My husband is an ocean lover and he said his favorite part of the condo was the view from our bedroom. Pretty fantastic.
If you're thinking of booking this property, jump at the chance. Easily the best vacation rental of our lives. Falling asleep listening to the ocean just outside is wonderful. The condo is equipped better than any vacation rental we've ever stayed at. Communication with our host was great.

About the host
Hosted by Sally Brett
I am a retired engineer and community volunteer living in Santa Clara, California. I was born in Hawaii 62 years ago when my father was in the army, based on Mauna Kea on the Big Island. When I was growing up, my family would migrate to Hawaii each August for our annual vacation. My sister and I now own this townhouse. We put considerable effort and pride into maintaining, updating, and decorating our Hawaiian paradise which we view as a priceless treasure.
Why they chose this property
This property has been passed down through the generations. My father and mother purchased it because they loved this unique location and viewed it as the finest in the Hawaiian Islands. My father was an avid snorkeler and scuba diver. We spent our family vacations when I was growing up exploring the ocean reefs in front of KKSRC #5.
What makes this property unique
Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet Club, Townhouse #5 is located right on a gorgeous quiet beach. It is one of the very few properties on the entire island which have oceanfront privacy and solitude, Also, the ocean reefs directly in front off KKSRC #5 offer some of the most pristine, clear snorkeling and scuba diving in the world. Also, when the surf is up (normally in the winter), renters can use the surf board in the townhouse to surf the waves! Honu, Hawaiian Sea Turtles, can be seen almost every day on the beach. Locals call this location a 'Honu Haven' because it is one of the few resting places for this gorgeous turtle. During low tide Hawaiian petroglyphs can be seen on the rocks which form tide pools. This is a wonderful location to begin learning about ancient Hawaiian history!
