About this property

Casa Pájaro Artist Adobe House on historic La Loma Plaza

Visit Taos and experience a bit of authentic history staying at Casa Pajaro. Available for 30 day rentals. It is one of the town's original adobe houses situated in a quiet neighborhood among other houses of the same era off the beaten path. A short walk to Taos Plaza with shopping and restaurants in town. When renovated with all of the modern conveniences it was also meticulously painted by Jim Wagner, a well-known local artist, including the hand-made furniture. There are no lights in the plaza so star gazing is great.

THE SPACE
Upon entering the house you encounter a fully equipped kitchen, perfect for hosting home cooked meals. The living area is a great place for conversation or for streaming a movie on the TV. In the winter, the house stays cozy with base-board heating. You are invited to light a small fire in the kiva for extra warmth après-ski; we provide the firewood. In the summer, enjoy the natural cooling of an historic adobe. This ancient construction technique keeps hot days at bay with its thick walls acting as natural insulation against the heat. The two bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house. The Master Bedroom has direct access to the dressing area, bathroom and home office. The second bedroom is adjacent to the living room.

GUEST ACCESS
You have access to the entire house as well as the porch and courtyard out front directly adjacent to the two parking spaces. There is ample storage for your belongings in each bedroom.

The house is very accommodating for those traveling with children. If you are coming for the ski season with children the Taos Ski Valley Children's Center has full day lessons for all ages while the parents are doing their thing. Additional the house is ideal for older travelers with no accessibility challenges.

LA LOMA PLAZA NEIGHBORHOOD
The neighborhood is great for walking with beautiful views and no commercial traffic if you stay in the residential area. This makes Casa Pajaro a nice place for those who want to take short or longer walks in the morning or evening to watch the sunrise or sunset.

GETTING AROUND
Rent a car at Albuquerque Airport, and it's a 2.5 hour scenic drive to Taos. For public transport, the Taos Ski Valley operates a shuttle from ABQ Airport to Taos Plaza. You could then rent a car from Taos.
If you want to stop on the way to sightsee or shop in Santa Fe, you may also wish to stop at Trader Joe’s for groceries. However, there are also many supermarkets to choose from in Taos.

There are also shuttles available to take you all the way to the Ski Valley once you are ready to hit the slopes. On busy days its better to rent your boots at Cottam's in town and pick up your ski's on the mountain. There are several backroads from the plaza out of town so you don't need to use the main road in town to get to the grocery store or up the mountain.

Depressing

Suffers from lack of owner care. Dead sunflowers in front, porch full of leaves, no maid service, only one set of clean sheets for two beds and beds were unmade when we arrived, terribly busy decor even if you like folk decor. Had to buy slip prevention for tub. We left early. Photo is deceiving as it only shows kitchen table and chairs. I began to wish for our own cream-colored walls. Should have asked friends in Taos to check out the place. Owner helpful when possible.

Wonderful

This house is perfect....excellent location, well equipped, extremely comfortable beds and couches, and beautiful... just great... better than the pictures. Appreciated it even more after reading the coffee table book on the Taos artist who painted it. And owner was remarkably patient after I had mistakenly taken the key instead of leaving it in the lockbox and it took post office 9 instead of 3 days to get the key to him. Best place we’ve ever stayed in Taos . Highly recommended.

Unique house with interesting painting and furniture

My kids loved the house. The location is really convenient and the house has some modern updates, however I also had a few disappointments. The heater takes time to bring up the temperature, when the house is warmed, it’s very nice and cozy but it took a few hours for us. Then the dryer was broken, so we couldn’t do laundry. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Unique and Exceptional

Casa Pajaro is definitely a unique and fun find! Easy check in, very clean and comfortable, with every amenity needed. The colorful and whimsical artwork and amazing history of this casa kept us entertained for hours. It is located within a short walking distance to Taos Square, shops, restaurants, and museums. However, we found ourselves not wanting to leave this charming and peaceful place. We would love to visit Casa Pajaro again and will highly recommend it to others.

Wonderful & Warm!

We had a wonderful experience at Casa Pájaro. From check in to check out, everything was simple and seamless. The home is a fun, unique place with all the amenities, and it was very clean. We were able to have a fire, which on a very cold January night was perfect. We walked to Taos Square and to nearby restaurants and shops, no need to drive in from this convenient location. I highly recommend this home, and we would love to visit again.

Unique Taos Historic Property in Quiet Old Plaza Close to Downtown and The Harwood Museum

Jim Wagner, a true Taos character and artist, has painted and decorated this historic old and renovated adobe residence with his characteristic hearts, magpies, birds, angels and bright Mexican colors. Old adobes tend to be dark, but not this one, and it is exceptionally clean and clutter free. Every drawer and trastero was empty for our week-long stay. We walked to Taos Plaza numerous times and to the library and The Harwood Museum in addition to Kit Carson Park and the Couse/Sharp Historic Site. There are other Wagner-decorated casas nearby but this one is the roomiest and most decorated. At Casa Pajaro you are exposed to Jim Wagner's art as well as being part of La Loma Plaza where Taos residents live and work. We lived north of Taos for years and are familiar with various rentals and lodging. La Loma Plaza is a jewel and there is plenty of parking. The house has been lovingly lived in so you don't have to worry about breaking or messing up anything. The kitchen table and chairs are well constructed, and there is no rug to trip over. It is convenient having the washer and dryer in the kitchen. The shower works well with plenty of hot water. We had fine meals at Common Fire, Lambert's, and The Ranchos Trading Post and Grill. On the plaza the Manzanita Market has great salads for lunch. Sol in Arroyo Seco also has great salads and you can finish with Taos Cow ice cream across the street. This property will enhance any Taos stay and delight young and old alike.
