About this property

The Downtown Mansion (4br 7,000 SF)

The homesite of the Joy Plantation land during the 18th century, this was the home of General White. This Famous war of 1812 general was shot famously in a duel over who would become post master by Sam Houston, who later went on to found Houston, Texas. General Whites' grave is marked on the adjacent property.

In the 20th century the Joy family sold the farmstead to The Holkamp family from Germany. They are currently the largest producer of African violets in the world. This industrial like farm is located in the rear of the Mansion.

Host of several music videos from Nashvilles' best. The Black Keys, Comedy Central, Luke Bryan, Brett Eldredge, Paramore and more have all been through here and left their mark and their own story. Also home to the Luck Reunion sessions of 2016 by Third Man Records, Jack Whites' record label. You can catch the videos they did here on youtube.

Please note, this booking includes the first 2 floors of the property. There is an additional space available with 2 extra beds and half bath, professional stage and wet bar on the third floor. This space is available for an additional fee and on a case by case basis.
Catch a sun set over the trees on the West facing country porch. Watch the sun rise on the 3rd floor crow nest balcony. Enjoy a quiet tranquil backyard with the faint sounds of a bustling downtown in the far distance. Build a fire in the outdoor fireplace. Enjoy the stars and the peeper frogs. Turn on the outdoor lights, have a drink by the fireplace and enjoy the cool Nashville air. My home is nicely furnished and you'll find it quite cozy.

This is not a place to throw parties.

Love Nashville but....
I had inquired about the place months before since we were doing a small wedding/renewal of vows with 8 people only. 8 days before we were to arrive, the owner threatened to cancel our reservation twice claiming I was trying to get out of an event fee. He should have asked me more about what we were doing instead of being threatening. It was a breakfast casserole, 10 minute nuptials, then we were tourist the rest of the day. The bride is in her 60s btw. The phone number on the listing is incorrect. I tried calling and texting and got nothing. they were not ready for us to check in at 4. They were still cleaning and repairing things. They seemed very unorganized and unprepared. I had inquired a day or so before about the coffee situation, but never received an answer. We did not get the access code until the following day we were there. the owner was very nice upon check-in (wasn't sure what we were going to get). He was going to bring us wine and bourbon, but that never happened. Overall, it is a great, beautiful house with plenty of rooms. It could use some nice touches like nice matching towels and the little extras that many owners provide. I would not want to stay here again and be treated that way again. We have stayed in many rentals and have been treated professionally until this one. Maybe he just had a bad day that day......

Excellent, large space close to downtown
This house and property are perfect for large groups. There were 11 of us that fit comfortably with the ample space, number of beds, and bathrooms. Lots of space to gather as a group or split off to play pool on a full-sized table, relax on the front porch or side yard, play piano in the main room, or watch TV with the projector. Like everything else, the kitchen was large and had everything we needed to cook. We also took advantage of the outdoor grill. The outdoor space here was excellent and offers privacy. A hidden gem so close to the city. An Uber ride to get downtown was around $8. Devon was extremely responsive leading up to our stay and during our time in Nashville. If you're looking for a big space for a large group that will allow you some time to relax and still be close to the city this is the perfect location.

Host profile image
Boston Native living in Nashville for 7 years. I love to travel, and I love to host. I have been hosting this home on Airbnb since 2014 and just recently started branching out into new areas. I know Nashville very well, the off the beaten path parts. I despise chains and I only shop local. I know a few chefs, and a few transportation companies. I know all the good catering spots, and the best watering holes. Most of the places I will point you to are places other people wouldn't suggest, because they are more authentic Nashville. Between my 2 properties, large and medium, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Why they chose this property

This property has been through many ups and downs. It is one of the oldest standing homes in Nashville, and I wouldn't leave it for 10 million dollars. This house has been a plantation, a brothel, a swingers club, a boys home, a fraternity house, and most recently my Short Term Rental property. If these walls could talk, the stories they would tell. I've spent the last 6 years bringing this property back from the depths of condemnation and It has an incredible story-- as Nashville isn't very good about preserving it's history, I've made it my mission to ensure the story of this house gets told for many more years.

What makes this property unique

Very close to downtown, about 10 minutes, but set on 3.5 acres. There are no neighbors directly closeby, and the houses that are are all owned by the parent company that owns the house. We have incredibly privacy with a fence on 3 sides of the property, and the only thing to the back is a large violet farm. There is no noise from the city on the property and besides a distant siren or train horn the only noises you'll hear late at night-- assuming nobody in the neighborhood is throwing a party (unusual ) are the peeper frogs and sounds of the natural world. It's quite peaceful here and you'll feel a lot farther away from the city than you are. If you close your eyes and relax hard enough by the firepit you just might think you're 100 miles from anywhere.
