Gated Oceanfront Home with “Wow Factor” Views and a Private Staircase to its own Private Beach
Note: I just completed an exterior renovation over the last 6 months. The garden has John Watson moonlighting which was converted to LED moonlight. Video to the street side gate with electronic door release. Exterior of the home repainted. Garden has had extensive work. I am the third owner and was the Landscape Architect on the property in 1979. In 1979 the home and site went through an extensive update by the previous owner who was an Architect. Upgrades to the home as well. This is a private home with all the collections and art intact. Its staying in an owner quality property. It has a fully insulated roof. It appears to be a charmer but it is a fully functioning updated home. I sold my Montecito Estate and am replacing some dressers with better pieces. New photos will post soon. Retractable awnings for the deck and Lanai. The banded furniture is original to the 1940 construction. It has passed down through the subsequent owners.
This classic charming beach house is located in prestigious South Laguna, midway between the Montage Hotel and Resort and the Ritz Carlton. With expansive views of the coastline and Catalina Island from almost every room, the home has its own steps that lead down to a private roped-off section of a spectacular, and relatively secluded, sandy beach, known as Thousand Steps Beach. It also has a private air conditioned cabana on the beach stocked with beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, toys, boogie boards, and even a bar refrigerator w separate freezer that you can fill with chilled beverages and supplies for dining al fresco by the crashing waves. (public beaches in Orange County prohibit alcohol on the beach, but this prohibition does not apply to our private beach, so you are free to sip a bottle of your favorite wine while sitting on the sand, watching the sunset). Thousand Steps Beach is famous for surfing, skim boarding, and volleyball, as well as swimming and sun bathing. There are numerous tide pools to explore and a sea cave that marks the entrance to Secret Cove. In the summer, lifeguards are stationed on the beach. There is a public restroom down the cove.
The home, which was featured in Coastal Living Magazine,”Going to Hawaii without the plane ride” is perfect for entertaining because it has three separate living areas. The first area is the main house, situated off a lushly-landscaped courtyard with potted plants and an historic Malibu-tile fountain. It features beamed ceilings, wide-plank Douglas Fir hardwood floors, and two working fireplaces. A spacious great room, fully-stocked kitchen, dining alcove, lanai, and powder room are located at the entrance level of the house. Walk down one flight, and you’ll find a master suite that has a seating area and an en-suite bathroom with a soaking tub. This level also has a guest bedroom with a queen bed and en-suite bath. Both bedrooms have beautiful ocean views.
The second living area is an ocean-view guest suite with a king bed, seating area, fireplace, tiki bar, kitchenette, and bath with shower. Adjacent to this guest suite is a large wooden deck topped by a Jacuzzi spa, lounge chairs, propane BBQ, dining table and chairs, and an outdoor hot-water shower so you can rinse off after swimming.
The third living area, above the main house, is a guesthouse that has a seating area, a recessed king bed, a full bathroom, and a bedroom with a full-sized bed. This guest house has ocean views and is air conditioned.
The entire house has zoned air conditioning (a rare commodity in ocean front houses in Laguna Beach) wireless internet, cable television, flat screen TVs, Blu Ray & DVD player, a music system, and a professional Wolf gas range. Weekly maid service is included in the rent.
This is a very private residence. At street level, only the two-car garage, the parking deck, and the secured entrance gate are visible. Parking is available for four cars. The staircase to the sand is accessed through locked gates.
Located minutes from downtown Laguna Beach, there is a trolley stop across the street. Trolleys are free and run approximately every 20 minutes, so you can leave the car at home. Several excellent restaurants are within walking distance.
Laguna Beach is a charming city located on the Pacific Coast, midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Because of this location, it has ideal weather all year long, and has been a year round retreat for art lovers, nature enthusiasts, and beach goers. Since its founding in 1887, Laguna Beach has been art colony. It now hosts the Sawdust Festival, Festival of the Arts, and Pageant of the Masters. It is a family-friendly town, located within a reasonable drive to Southern California's theme parks, including Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Legoland, Seaworld, and Universal Studios.
