This was a perfect set-up for us. The home is quaint, cozy, and well-appointed. The area is beautiful and serene, with great bird watching. Jeff is an outstanding host. We loved our stay!
The place was really unique! We liked the charm, it was clean and exactly as pictured and described. Super close to Port Jefferson ms a beautiful area to visit!
Charming house and surrounding area. Just right for us and 2 older kids. Close to amenities and the beach. Would definitely return for a low-key north shore getaway.
The place was lovely and well appointed.. Beds were comfy. The spiral staircase was a bit tight to maneuver but location was perfect. It was a great spot for us, close to family in Sound Beach and Miller Place.
We absolutely loved it. I would leave 10 stars if i could. Jeff was amazing and we had everything we needed. I will definitely stay here again. Beaches minutes away.
We stayed here for almost three weeks while our home was being renovated. The host was very accommodating, we were able to have our dog with us and the kids loved staying upstairs and using the spiral staircase. The sun room was our favorite space, you could hear the frogs peeping in the evenings. We were very comfortable there!
We truly enjoyed our stay at this property. Jeff is a great host and made sure we were comfortable. He went above and beyond and also provided great recommendations for dining in the area.
We had a fabulous time at the 1856 House. House is thoughtfully appointed. Beds are very comfortable. Quiet neighborhood. Great location for us - near family, Sound and Atlantic beaches. Hope to return again.
Jeff is the ultimate host. Very accommodating and welcoming. This is a unique place to stay that has history and character. Lived the fact that our dog was welcome to stay. We were in town for a baseball tournament and had easy access to restaurants and grocery stores as we needed.

My brother in law, husband and I stayed here when our family member's house could not accomodate all of it. The property is very bright, pleasant, and quiet and the manager could not have been more accomodating.
We needed a last minute place that was pet friendly to attend a funeral. The owner was great and stayed in communication. The place was clean and quirky. It was a cold weekend of February - kitchen and bathroom floor is cold but ac heat for the everything else was great and customizable to our preferences. It was easy to find local eats and groceries.
The property has a good amount of space for traveling with family. We were in town for a tournament in Mount Sinai and it was very conveniently located to where the tournament was as well as the nearby town of Port Jefferson for leisure time. It is also close to some great beaches. The property owner is incredibly helpful and responsive and truly goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a great stay and everything they need for the property.
The unit itself is very charming with a lot of finishing touches that make it relevant to its historical background. Highly recommend!

A disappointing experience. We were parents, daughter and husband with their 6 month old baby. Downstairs there is nowhere to comfortably sit as a family and the floor did not feel clean for an infant to lay on. The spiral staircase was way to narrow and unsafe to consider carrying the baby upstairs to the nicer living room. My husband and I slept upstairs but there is only one bathroom so if you needed to go to the toilet in the night it was quite hazardous going down the spiral steps. The location was quite close to Port Jeferson but as the house was on quite a busy road there was nowhere to safely walk the dogs. The bathroom could definitely do with a makeover and a new door. Who puts a slatted door on a bathroom which is next to the kitchen??!

I am sorry it was a disappointing experience, the pictures and descriptions are clear about the spiral staircase and where the bathroom is. I vacuum and swiffer all floors. I am many neighborhood. People walk their dogs in this area. Once again, sorry for your disappointing experience.
I grew up near here and being able to return and stay so close to the water and Cedar beach was great. Very quiet and cozy too. Will definitely return!
We had a great stay. Jeff was up front with directions and process. Nice community and very close to the beach. Would stay again in future.

My wife and I bought this house before we were married and worked on it with our own hands. We would work in one area and live in another until the whole house was done. I grew up about 5 minutes away, so I know the area very well. My wife and I work as fencing coaches about 10 minutes away .My wife and I were married at the "Friary" which is next door.
Why they chose this property
We just love the location, when you drive / walk around you are in a hidden pocket of nature, while still close to everything else.
What makes this property unique
I love this house and the area. It has everything accessible but it feels like you are away from it all. Half a mile and you can just jump in the harbor (high tide) go kayaking, fishing etc.
