Northern Getaway

The place was in a perfect spot. we enjoyed the views of the water from the kitchen in the mornings and the dock across the street. Water was very drinkable. Only thing that was a bit of a hassle was the main TV was in the one bedroom which made it a challenge when we all wanted to view it sitting on kitchen chairs was not too comfortable. Would have been nice to have a TV in the main room with the fireplace. The one in the loft is great for children since they are shorter and wont hit their heads as many times as I did going up and down.LOL. could use some newer couches, little worn out,, Internet was slow when you have 4 other people on their phones and tablets. But overall the place was GREAT! If you have a mobility issue with walking, it is a bit of stairwalk or uphill walk gettin into it.

Great cottage with beautiful views

We (5 adults) went up for family day weekend. The cottage is unique but feels very spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. The views are awesome. The cottage is well organized as a rental with lots of tips and notes to make your stay easy. The host, Matt, was very responsive and accommodating. We would definitely rent again.

Overall a good place to stay while on the Bruce Peninsula

The house was pretty much as advertised, with a few exceptions. Overall it was great and good value for the area. It’s in a good location, has a well stocked kitchen, the only exception being that the pilot light for the propane oven was impossible to light, so we were not able to use the oven (the microwave had to fill in in a pinch, not quite the same). The beds were comfortable and the linens were clean. There were plenty of bath towels and lots of toilet paper and paper towels, always a welcome discovery. There were lots of dish towels in the kitchen as well. The living room area is cozy with a wood-burning stove, and there was a generous supply of wood and kindling for our use. The big down-side is that there is no satellite TV (or any other kind of TV reception), contrary to the listing details, but there is a Wii and a DVD player. It wasn’t a super big deal for us, but could be disastrous for others who might have the expectation to watch TV. As it is, the TV (and etc.) are in the upstairs loft lounge area, so if someone was using that as their sleeping space, they would find it inconvenient to have the TV in their bedroom, same for the 3rd bedroom. As for the bedrooms, the listing shows 3 bedrooms. The two on the main floor are actual bedrooms; the 3rd bedroom is off the open loft area. It is a window-less closet-room under the eaves with a double bed, which is not clear in the listing or photos, and though it could be suitable for children, it would not be comfortable for an adult, and especially not for a couple. The only other complaint we would have is that the house was highly scented, using plug-in scent diffusers, which we had to remove and air out the house because of scent sensitivities and allergies. If someone has such sensitivities/allergies, I suppose you could let the owner know ahead of time and they could be removed in advance of your stay (we did not have that knowledge).

I stayed here with my parents and aunt, and we had a wonderful time. The house was cozy, bright, and filled with natural light. The lake views were absolutely stunning, and we loved relaxing on the deck and enjoying the beautiful weather. The host was very responsive and we appreciated the late check out to enjoy the property a bit longer. We all agreed we’d love to return - thank you for such a lovely experience!

We had a wonderful stay at Rich Haven Cottage! The cottage is full of charm—unique, cozy, and incredibly welcoming. The views of the lake are absolutely stunning, and the space had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. Matt was a fantastic host—super responsive and easy to communicate with.A couple of things to keep in mind: the road between the cottage and the lake can get busy on weekends, so it’s good to stay alert if you have little ones with you. The water is crystal clear and beautiful, but it’s on the shallow side near the dock—water shoes help make the most of it. The upstairs loft bedroom is cozy and private but has no windows, so it can get a bit warm compared to the rest of the cottage, which has great airflow and lovely natural light. All in all, a great experience and we’d absolutely recommend it to others looking for a peaceful cottage escape!

Rich-Haven Waterfront Country House

This is a unique cottage, large and fun to explore, with lots of artwork, pottery and an amazing international collection of books and artifacts around each new corner, of which there were many, and a baby grand piano to top it all. Remembering the location of light switches was a bit of a challenge, as they were in unusual places. But it all added to the charm..

Wiarton Weekend

We enjoyed a relaxing weekend on Colpoys Bay, where we watched cormorants , loons and mallard ducks bobbing and diving in the water. We watched the sunrise on the beautiful deck. We were located near the Bruce Trail so we could hike. We went into charming Wiarton and had lovely espresso coffee. We had a wonderful girls weekend.

Great Cottage

The rich-haven country house was even better than the photos. It’s a lovely home with so much character. Very cozy despite being large enough to fit four bedrooms. It was especially nice to be able to enjoy the fireplace at night as the weather outside was chilly. The home has everything thoughtfully labeled and everything that we needed to have a smooth and easy stay was provided. Matt was an exceptional host with wonderful communication and was always available to assist as needed. We would happily stay here again :)
