About this property
Boutique Home Hotel set at the crossroads to the grampians, GOR and the folkies
A 100 year old small hotel with a smart new attitude and look. 20 bed rooms which are carefully decorated and super comfortable . We also house an art gallery, a café, a small bar, a book shop/reading room, a breakfast room and charming small cinema theatre.
Close to some of the best features of the Great Ocean Road and a plethora of wineries, tourist sites, golf courses and historic and indigenous sites. The area has been home to the first nations people, the settlers and squatters, farmers and their workers and great authors like Alan Marshall and at least one Nobel Prize winner (Sir Macfarlane Burnett).
It is known for its position at the interface of the volcanic past, the most long standing and effective agriculture in the country, the bleak genocidal history and the amazing first nations developments and stories. It is the vibrant home of an arts revolution and the base of one of the oldest and most successful cooperatives in the world.

Les was the most amazing host. He made our stay memorable with great conversations over breakfast and the fresh fruit salad topped it off thank you.

Les is the best host you will come across world wide is easy to talk to and very hospitable is in it for the people 100% . Loved our stay Thankyou to Les and the resident musician . The property is old and quirky the decor works well within the creaky bones of this gorgeous old girl. The publican is lovely as too are the regular drop ins, the flower lady, the handyman. We will definitely come again loved our stay.
Hosts with the most… ABOVE and BEYOND..
Les & Des go above and beyond for the comfort of their guests and patron's.. We could not have picked a better place to stay for our adventure to Terang. We are already looking forward to our next stay with Les & Des.
If you’re looking for Genuine Friendly Country Hospitality that goes Above and Beyond the usual, then The Commercial Hotel - Terang is the place to go. You won’t be disappointed..
Thank you both for an awesome time !!!!!
This was a last minute accomodation during the busy Christmas break, and Terang was not our final destination. The proprietor, Les, is an incredibly hospitable man. He provided breakfast, information for our travels and pretty much anything we needed. The place is an older hotel. The pub is largely inactive, and the place runs mostly B&B style accomodation. Terang is a quiet place, and ideal for escape from city life. Les is a real ambassador for the town and they are lucky to have him. If you want to meet other travellers, there are many opportunities here. The shared bathroom the only downside to staying here. Was rather quiet when we were there, so we had the bathroom to ourselves.
I booked a 1 night sleepover for my family of 5 adults & 4 children while visiting the Twelve Apostles and surrounding areas along the Great Ocean Road. We had a very pleasant short stay under the gracious provision of a beautiful down-to-earth man (with beautiful hair), called Les.
Our rooms were all comfortably furnished; Spacious shared bathrooms; Kitchen amenities as well as further spaces (bar, function/entertainment room with stage & screen, commercial kitchen, etc) within the hotel that would suit large groups for special events or celebrations.
If you love heritage buildings, you will appreciate all the charm of this old local landmark and find yourself drawn to its history.
I'm so glad to have chanced upon this special place and be warmly welcomed by such a kind host - a wholehearted thanks to you Les.
Les is an amazing host, he made us feel like home. My son couldn’t wait to get back to accommodation when we were out on touring, that’s how much he loved the place. Kitchen here is the cleanest and the biggest kitchen I have ever seen in shared kitchens.
Les is an inspiring person, you end up becoming more knowledge when leaving than you were when you arrived. Every little place in Terang has a beautiful story
I Will be visiting again with bigger group of friends. Highly recommended accommodation.
I had a wonderful stay. I love the heritage hotel with its vintage period furniture that complement it. It is clean. The bed and pillows are sleep-inducing. The host, Les, is the best. He gave me a warm welcome and made me feel at home. I enjoyed the movie sessions. I'm definitely coming back.
This is a great old pub, with good beds and a really comfortable vibe, but the star of the setup is Les the host. He oversees a range of entertainments, cooks breakfasts and generally finds ways to ruin his own retirement. This is no normal motel stay, so if you are OK with a shared bathroom, get along and give yourself a great time at Les's.
5 STARS for this place.
What a wonderful stay my partner, 2 young kids and myself had.
The owner Les is just wonderful and was so accommodating for us and we felt at home straight away.
This pub has so much character and is super clean and the beds are very comfortable.
It is a short drive to so many places.
The town has what you need and all the locals are so friendly. They make everyone feel welcome.
I could go on.
We will definitely be coming back to stay here again! Thanks so much Les.
Les is the most welcoming host you could hope to meet. Made us all feel at home, including our Chinese International student who is vegetarian. The location of the property within Terang is great, right in the middle of town. Terang is a surprise in itself, only 2.5 hours from Melbourne, then just a short and pleasant drive through gorgeous country to all the main attractions, 12 Apostles, Otway Ranges, Warrnambool and Port Fairy. Great food at Timboon and if you have time, an hour the other way to the Grampians. Highly recommend this area!
Our group of 30 people stayed at the hotel during New Years this year. It was fantastic stay and Less was very accommodating and very helpful. Place is clean and heaps to do as well without even leaving the hotel. We had one of the best times on New Years night. Definitely will be visiting again.
Great place in a beautiful country town! Building itself is an example of the past architecture with some renovations to suit modern living. As a family we had a great stay at the property and very much enjoyed the hospitality. The breakfast with Les and friends was very memorable as we exchanged news from our side of the world while the kids enjoyed playing in the sand pit in the backyard! Will definitely visit this place in the future!
We had a wonderful time staying in the hotel and Les's hospitality was more than generous and what we could ever have dreamed of. My partner and I went to the hotel expecting to just sleep, and we left making a wonderful new friend who looked after us so very well.
Les’s boutique hotel was a wonderful stay with so much uniqueness, it really caters for everyone. Great for longer stays to explore the surrounding regions. We will be back, thank you Les!
It's great place to relax with friends and family. Centrally located to visit tourist places and move around south or north directions. Manager Les is very friendly and helpful.
Was such a delight to stay at this Hotel. Les was delightful and so hospitable. Comfy bed and great food. Would highly recommend staying at this hotel
