The Wheelhouse - Meredith Lodging


Located on a rising two blocks from the Roads End beach and beach access just down the hill. The Wheelhouse offers ocean views from the living room, dining room, and on the deck. The location is near Cascade Head where you can enjoy several scenic hikes and all nature has to offer.

The Wheelhouse was thoughtfully designed for a great ocean view on the main level, built with vaulted ceiling, skylights and a gas fireplace. Downstairs there are high ceilings and a spacious bathroom. Wheelhouse gives the feel of a modern home with high-quality furnishings, stylish decorations, plush bedding, new flat-screen TVs, and custom touches throughout.

Take advantage of all the amenities The Wheelhouse has in store for you in a peaceful setting. Sit on the large covered deck and enjoy the Pacific Ocean view while relaxing on the Adirondack chair or while barbecuing for the family.

Just the right distance to the beach, safeway right around the corner, the climb from the beach to the house was steep but it got my fat ass moving so that's good too.

Kids loved the game room

This was a nice place. Our kids loved playing in the game room. I enjoyed the variety of toys for different age groups that were provided. It was a nice walk to the beach but pretty steep heading back.

GETAWAY TO THE COAST

Had a nice stay, would have been nice to have known about next door new construction, don't get to sleep in very often, they were pretty consistent with the 8 a.m. pounding. House was comfortable - thank you.

The Wheelhouse stay

The renting process was painless, the view from the patio was great! The way the house is set up with the games downstairs made for peace and quiet upstairs. My only complaint is that things listed weren't available...kayak, beach chairs and sand toys. All in, the location 3 blocks from the beach was nice and the kids had lots of fun here. Thank you!

Spring Break Family trip

The view is spectacular! We enjoyed sitting in the living room and watching waves come in. However, the furniture was not very comfortable. The pots and pan in the kitchen were very worn and not stocked well enough (no cookie sheets, foil or plastic wrap). The basement bedroom was also in need of updating. But overall, we enjoyed the location of the house. It was fine.

The area was quiet and walking along the roads felt safe. It was very easy to get to the beautiful beach. The house was pretty clean and had most of what we needed. To make the stay better, these could be attended to:Replace the cooking pots and pans. They are mostly nonstick and scratched, this is not safe. Fix the kitchen cabinet door that is broken. Supply more cutlery. Clean up the backyard. Put shades on the back deck so it can be enjoyed in the afternoon. Fix the lint catcher in the dryer. The accumulation of lint could cause a fire. Put a grab bar in the downstairs shower.All that being said, we did enjoy our stay.

Outdated and deceiving listing photos

We have stayed with Meredith Lodging before and haven't had issues, but this house was such a frustrating disappointment, if I could give it 0 stars I would. We visit the coast several times a year and do one long weekend before the end of summer and like to try new homes each time. We went 2 weeks ago and I thought I would have calmed down and just not written a review this time, but this was the most expensive weekend rental we've ever gotten and I would hate for another family to go through the same experience we did. The photos from the posting must be at least 5-10 years old and are heavily edited/brightened. We like to cook meals at the house so that we aren't eating out for all 3 meals every day, but the grill was filthy and falling apart, the kitchen was so empty we had to go get pans and supplies to cook with, the kitchen cabinets looked like they'd never been wiped down and although the place supposedly sleeps 10, there were only 6 forks...total. The carpets had dark stains all over and there were popcorn pieces in the living room from the people that were there before us, the couches were stained and gross and there were no extra pillows or linens for the extra futon bed downstairs. My husband could barely fit in the "half" bath, which was actually just a hallway laundry room with a toilet and pedestal sink. At that point, it was laughable because we kept finding more and more issues that it wasn't even worth reaching out to get resolution because the only thing that would have made it better was a different place. I wouldn't recommend this home to anyone, even if it was less expensive, I was stewing at all the other places we were considering and didn't reserve that ended up being nicer and cheaper. If it weren't for an amazing visit with family and trying to make light of a bad situation, the weekend would have been a complete disaster.

Great location!

Overall we enjoyed our stay here, however there were a few things that disappointed us. Bedrooms were cozy but there is a plant growing out of the carpet on one side of the bed, between the bed and nightstand In the room with the surf paddle on the wall. We saw a Cheeto under the kitchen counter when we first arrived and some of the carpet wasn’t vacuumed. We then took sanitizing wipes along every touch surface including the hand rails going downstairs, they were extremely filthy. Door handles, fridge handles all were dirty. With the pandemic and cost of the cleaning fee one would think sanitization of all surfaces should be mandatory. The spin cycle on the washer doesn’t work. We had to manually wring our laundry and the drying time took hours. The air intake vent above the couch is filthy with dirt and cobwebs. Also, the downstairs bedroom and main living room tv weren’t working...we figured out that they would work but one remote had to be used for all the TVs. After we felt like we’d cleaned the place up to our standards, we did enjoy our time at the Wheelhouse. It is a nice two block walk to the beach. It has a gorgeous deck and is nestled in a quiet neighborhood. Don’t be fooled by the price per night listed. There are many other costs!

The house was nice and had many amenities. The house does need more maintenance.

The deck and living room view was amazing. The kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. The play room was adored by our three children. However the property needs more maintenance. The washing machine was moldy, the sink plugs were not connected properly, the downstairs bathroom was missing trim and had damaged drywall, and the carpeting upstairs in the living room needs to be replaced. I would also recommend having directions for Apple Tv, the DVD player, and the Wii.

We had alot of fun. Really nice place. Enjoyed the view. It was really nice to have a game room for the kids. We were a little disappointed that there was no propain in the BBQ. Other then that we had a great time!

Great set up for our large family.

My wife and I love the hustle and bustle our 7 kids bring into our life, but finding lodging for 9 people can be a challenge. Add my mother with physical limitations and you need a special property indeed. Road's End delivered. A large home with an ocean view, walking distance to the beach, walk in shower on the lower level, with clean and comfy furnishings made for a fantastic visit to the Oregon coast. This great location made it easy to take day trips to a variety of locations in Oregon including the Oregon Coast Aquarium, New Port, Depoe Bay for whale watching, Corvallis, Albany, Salem, and Tillamook for a dairy tour. Loved it.

Nice family getaway to the ocean!

We joined some friends for some unwind time at the beach. The location was great. You had to climb up the hill to get back to the house, but we didn't care. The house was clean and had most everything we needed. The only complaint was a horrible smell from the basement. We think it was a leak or something to do with the sewer. We let managment co know so hopefully it was fixed.
