About this property
17th Century Stone Mas On Three Levels, Garden, Pool, Private, Air-Conditioned
With a stunning view to the mountains in complete tranquillity with large deep swimming pool (12 m x 5 m), between Le Rouret and Le Bar-sur-Loup. Wonderful views over the Gorge du Loup. One of a very few locations where you can still find Provence as it used to be.
This 17th century stone house is the perfect retreat for a family or group of friends.
Centrally located; it is just 30 minutes to the sea and to the Nice airport, 20 minutes to Saint-Paul de Vence, and 15 minutes to Gourdon. Plus, the beaches at Cagnes-sur-Mer, Antibes, Cannes and Monte-Carlo. Italy are just over an hour away, and St. Tropez a little further.
Perfect for friends or couples. The main house sleeps 5 and the independent garden flat can accommodate 4 more if necessary. The entire house is over 250 m2. The house has a large sitting room, with a fireplace, a smaller sitting room with another fireplace, a kitchen and dining room ‚ all on the ground floor. The dining room seats 9 people and connects to a large terrace, with electric awning, which steps down to the garden and pool. The terrace is a lovely place to enjoy your meals.
On the top floor are large master bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite with a bathtub and a loo, a single bedroom, a double bedroom, a study, a shower room, and a separate toilet.
Three rooms‚ the master bedroom, the sitting room and the kitchen in the main house are air-conditioned.
The independent garden flat facing the garden and the swimming pool is about 50 m2. It has a a double bedroom and a sitting room, which if necessary could be converted into another double bedroom, a kitchenette a shower room and a toilet. Built as a summer flat - a traditional feature of the old Provencale houses- it is naturally cool and doesn't need air-conditioning.
There is outside parking for 4 cars.
There are no shops within walking distance; but we do our shopping in the nearby towns of Le Rouret and Pre du Lac which are only 10 minutes away. In Le Rouret there is a wonderful shop where we buy Locally grown fruit and vegetables, meet, fish and cheese by local farmers, as well as a large supermarket CASINO should you need one. We go to Pre du Lac to a fabulous cheese shop (fromagerie) and to a butcher who remembers what we like, Dutto boulangerie and patisserie, which is the best in the area, and to outdoor market. There are other other markets nearby- in Tourette-sur-Loup , Bar-sur-Loup and a big everyday wonderful market in Vence.
The area has a wealth of activities: from the gate you have scenic walk up to the Chateau du Rouret , from Gourdon there’s a famous walk called the "Path of Love", you have lots of Picturesque villages to enjoy a stroll in. Plus you have much to choose from: sailing, paragliding, horse riding, golf, hiking, go-carting. Visit markets, museums, gardens, fun parks, art galleries and perfumeries., glass blowing, pottery, crafts and olive pressing. And, you will find wonderful little restaurants for every taste and pocket.
We speak English, French and Russian.
Here is a review from people staying at my house last August :
"If you are looking for the quintessentially French countryside experience you have found your holiday home! Irina's house really is a Grand Dame of a place, solid and beautiful, showing signs of its age and all the more lovely for it. Irina is a wonderful host, living nearby, she was there if we needed her, but did not disturb us if not. The location is as peaceful as can be with stunning views over the valley which were not shown on the property details (when we booked our stay at least) so were a wonderful surprise! The house is furnished in a classic style - no, its not an ultra modern place, but the lovely old furniture and decor perfectly fits the house - we felt at home here from the moment we arrived. The aircon is very effective in all the places it is fitted and there are fans for the other rooms. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly want for cooking and serving, the oven is efficient and although there are only 2 hotplates we managed to cook for a family of 5 no problem. The pool is wonderful and very well maintained, the gardens are completely private - you are not overlooked at all and apart from distant traffic noise from the roads across the valley, the place is an oasis of peace. All only 40 minutes drive from the airport. You will need a car to get to the nearby villages, the steep 40 minute walk to the closest village (Le Bar-sur-Loup) is too much to do in August heat and there are not really any shops when you get there - a tiny grocers and a small bakery that also serves coffee - although there are some restaurants and the ubiquitous French pharmacy! The closest supermarket is only a 15 minute drive away. Yet despite its isolated feel, it is really not far to visit all the sights of the riviera, and Grasse, or drive up into the Alps - all of which we did. We had a wonderful stay and were very sad to leave!

About the host
Hosted by Irina

I live in the South of France for more than 20 years. I fell in love with the region and my house from the first glance. I know the area very well and will share my knowledge with you in the Guide of the House for guests.
Why they chose this property
My house has such a long history behind it and it has a soul. In the old times it was a centre of Le Rouret with chateau Ponyatovski up above. At a time the house hosted the old mairy and a public school. During the Second World War the its wood shed was a hiding place for a Jewish family. No ghosts.
What makes this property unique
Very calm here, it is a green agricultural zone, rich wild life around and you could catch a glance of wild boars, badgers, foxes and dears driving to the house in the night. Birds are singing in the morning and during the day you hear buzzing noise of cicadas - so Provençale!
