About this property

Off Grid Secluded Cabin In Whitepine Creek Valley

***Thanks for your interest in our cabin. We're not taking reservations for 2024.***

We found this amazing property in 2012, then built & moved into our permanent home near the cabin (~450 ft up the road) in the summer 2015.

The comfortable 1100 ft2 cabin is situated on 20 acres surrounded by National Forest on 3 sides with beautiful Whitepine Creek flowing right through it. It’s on a well-maintained National Forest Service dirt road and is the last structure before millions of acres of the Kootenai & Coeur d’Alene national forests. The proximity to national forest affords us regular sightings of white-tailed deer, moose, elk, wild turkeys, coyote, hummingbirds and many other flora and fauna of the region. All you have to do is look up to see the Milky Way on clear nights!

The cabin has one bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed, two full-sized beds in the open loft upstairs, and one bathroom (shower, no tub). The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glasses, cookware, utensils, toaster, coffeemaker, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and gas range/oven. We can also provide basic spices and cooking ingredients for your convenience. Admittedly it’s a little small but I’ve made an entire Thanksgiving dinner in it!

There’s a 42” LED flat screen TV and Blu Ray/DVD player for watching movies or listening to music (no live TV). We have a library of DVDs, CDs and books for your entertainment (Redbox location in Thompson Falls). A compact stacked washer/dryer, detergent and fabric softener are available for use as well. A window A/C unit is provided in summer months.

The large patio boasts peaceful and relaxing views of the valley with patio chairs, umbrella, and BBQ. The backyard has a sturdy game hook and small outdoor fire ring (complimentary firewood provided).

We are off grid but you wouldn’t know it with our solar system and backup generators. Fiber internet that supports WiFi calls but no cell service – we don’t consider that a bad thing!

We are approximately 20 minutes from the village of Trout Creek. There is a small grocery store, hardware store, gas stations, motels, and restaurants/bars. The town of Thompson Falls is a little further away (~25-30 mins) in the opposite direction on Highway 200 but offers a larger grocery store, state liquor store, gas stations, and more bar/restaurant options.

The Clark Fork Valley is truly incredible and a beautiful drive in from every direction. The Spokane airport is ~3 hours drive to our cabin through Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, ID and Lake Pend Oreille from the west. Missoula is ~2 hours drive through the valley from the east, and Kalispell is ~2.5 hours from the northeast around the amazing Flathead Lake.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions. We hope to see you soon!

Our favorite place to stay
This was either our 3rd or 4th time coming back to this cabin. It is the most wonderful spot to get away. It is quiet and rich with nature. Beautiful trees of all kinds, rich forest, hills and the beautiful spring fed creek - the clearest and coldest water ever. We love to go paddle boarding when we stay here - lots of opportunities for water sports all up and down the main road. We also go for walks and bike rides up the road into the Forest Service area. My husband also went on hikes way up at the end of the road that he loved. The cabin itself is so comfortable and perfectly appointed. We play puzzles, eat meals, sit on the back porch enjoying the view, watch movies and sleep so well. You can also have a fire, make s'mores and then look at the most beautiful starry night sky. Heaven.

Perfect!!!
My husband and I traveled 1,750 miles to get to this peaceful secluded cabin for our 25th Anniversary. It was well worth every mile !! The cabin was immaculate and had everything you needed. It was that special getaway that we were looking for. It was so peaceful and secluded and took you away from everyday life where you can just enjoy each other’s company and not worry about time or day . We loved the scenery looking out off the back porch as Elk and hummingbirds would come by to visit :). Mary was a great hostess and not letting you go without anything you might need. It was the PERFECT getaway highly recommend!!

Just short of heaven!
My husband and I along with our dog Tilly had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the Whitepine Creek cabin. The cabin was roomy and comfortable with all the amenities we could ask for. The grounds were absolutely amazing, lush and green and a beautiful playground for Tilly. We spent all our waking hours on the deck and in the yard, enjoying the views and sounds of the crystal clear creek running nearby. One of our daily tasks was counting all the wildlife that went through; 14 deer in 1 day! We also saw turkey and a bull moose during our stay. Our hosts Mary and Clay were great, giving us great advice about things to do when we ventured out. Very friendly while respecting our privacy. We're all looking forward to our next visit!

The best VRBO we have stayed in.
The chairs on the porch look out at a fire pit, gardens, lush underbrush with a peak of the creek, accompanied with the soothing sound of rushing water. It’s very private, being the last house before the National Forest. Roads in every direction led to breathtaking mountain roads , rivers or lakes. The cabin was extremely clean with every convenience and the hosts were exceptional. We easily could have stayed a week or longer. We hope to return.
