Fantastic Location and Host
The apartment is very comfortable, on a quiet street, but near everything you could want. Within a ten minute walk are endless options for eating and drinking, or if you want to cook for yourself, there’s a nice grocery store and a public market just minutes away. Loads of public transportation options nearby for all your sightseeing, or walk the tree-lined streets about a mile to La Reforma. Mario as a host goes above and beyond to be welcoming and helpful. We would love to stay here again on our next visit to CDMX.

2/10 Terrible

Disliked: Check-in, communication
No reviews, now I know why....
First the good: The owner or manager of the apartment was gracious to accept a change request from me only a few days before my first travel plans were interrupted. I rebooked the stay a month later once I knew the issues would pass. This was a BIG PLUS, and after a small change fee, I was really happy and thanked them for the courtesy! However as the time approached for the updated reservation, I reached out 7 days before arrival to confirm the reservation and to get check-in procedures. I received no response until 4 days before arrival (3 days before my departure from Europe) that I still had a reservation, but they sent no check in instructions. I immediately replied asking for check -in instructions and reiterated my expected arrival time. No response. With no other communication, and unsure if my SMS was received, I waited until the hour before my flight from Frankfurt departed and made a traditional hotel booking in two minutes to get a confirmed place to stay. Hoping for the best during business travel is not a strategy that ends well when certainty matters. After a long flight, the CDMX free wifi was useless and my mobile SIM was not working. With no pre-arranged instructions, I went with my hotel booking,. Life is to short to wonder what will happen in a city far from home. After sleeping a few hours, and arriving in my office that morning for work, I was able to clear up my SIM issues and found they wrote me while I was in the air telling me they would meet me out front. Kind of useless when I was already in the air. I believe it is customary at least 3 days in advance to have check-in procedures. I did not expect to be figuring stuff out when jet-lagged, going to meet in a place I am unfamiliar with and have no idea what is going on. It should be expected that communications while in transit can be a problem, so up front and timely communication is critical to peace of mind. I am not even going to bother to ask for a refund,. All I wanted was a quiet and trouble free place to stay that wasn't in a stuffy hotel. Could I have done more to try and make it work? Perhaps, but after 15 hours of flight time, two weeks of travel before that, and looking at another week from home ahead- I was just not in a position to "hope" everything would work out. VRBO was a failed experiment. Will stick with hotels unless I am flexible.

Why they chose this property

Colonia Juarez, close to Mexico City’s historic centre has got its groove back, with new museums, art galleries, theaters, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, urban markets, street markets, shopping malls, etc... Stage of literary creations, near to other trendy neighborhoods Condesa, la Roma and much more.

Colonia Juárez was founded in the late 19th century as a neighborhood for the wealthy looking to escape the pollution and over population of Centro. A wave of openings over the past few years has seen interest in Juárez. Havre 77 is an oyster bar and restaurant from feted young chef Lalo García; other new spots include Lucerna Comedor, Teo Luncheonette, Taberna Luciferina, Osteria Isabella and Kyo Sushi. Milan 44 is an “urban market” where people can go for excellent coffee and cheese, a beard trim or a yoga class. In the past three years, three of Mexico City’s most exciting contemporary art galleries – José García, Marso and Karen Huber – have opened in Juárez. But the most anticipated newcomer is Amaya, a new restaurant and wine bar from Jair Téllez, the chef behind two of Mexico’s best restaurants. For Téllez, Juárez is a fusion of the best of new and old Mexico City: “A wave of creativity has made its way across the city and hit the spinal cord of Avenida Reforma. You don’t know what to expect here, and that makes it very exciting."
