Guest Access

The Neighborhood
While a mere two miles outside the city limits, The Cottage lends itself to a bygone era—a time when life was slow and simple. In short, The Cottage allows our guests the opportunity to rest, relax, and participate in activities that they would otherwise never experience. At the farm, surrounded by hundreds of acres of agriculture and virgin woodland, our guests can learn about gardening, livestock, animal husbandry, crop harvesting, or any number of activities going on at the farm during their stay.
Horns and sirens, traffic and commerce are a rarity around here. Instead, guests will be bathed in the comfort sounds of the country—a donkey’s bray, a dog’s bark, a horse’s whinny, and, on occasion, our sheep’s graceful, signature baas.
Butterfly gardens, in full bloom most of the year, are just off the outdoor lounging area, so guests can expect a visit from the local hummingbirds (in season), graceful butterflies, and bumbling bees on the hunt for a load of pollen. Songbirds, deer, and turkey inhabit the woods and meadows all around. A good book and a cup of hot tea will round out a most enjoyable farm experience.
Looking for something a little more "hands on"? Guests can participate in one or more of the following activities, dependent upon weather conditions, guests comfort level, and season: morning feeding, hay, water; vineyard keeping; gardening; animal care and training.
Upgrade Your Stay
We strive to provide our guests the ability to dive into daily farm activities, if desired.
For off-farm activities, we happily direct our guests to area points of interest, historical sites, restaurants, and shopping.
Farm interaction is provided at our guests' comfort level. Want to roll up your sleeves and dive right in? We would love it! Or, if you'd prefer, you can sit back, sip a cup of tea, and watch the world go by. It's all up to YOU! Bring your cameras!
Come, enjoy the peace of the country!
Getting Around

Cheyenne, we were honored to play a very small role in such an important weekend for you both! Come again, anytime. We would love to see you and would love to be your "I need to get out of the city for a minute" destination!
We had such a lovely time staying at the farm! The cottage was old-fashioned and perfect - had a old-style bathtub and an upright piano. But the best part was the farm. We walked through their vineyards, saw the horses, donkeys, peacocks. Valeri let my children feed the animals which was just a pure delight! We came so we could see the Pinson mounds park but the farm exceeded expectations. Just a wonderful place to stay.

Claire, you and your family are the kind of guests we love to host! It was an absolute pleasure, and we hope to see you again sometime. Come anytime!
We enjoyed our stay while visiting our son at Freed. It was so conveniently located to the university, yet tucked away so peacefully. We loved hearing all the background stories surrounding the farm and the animals, and touring the grounds. My 7 year old loved interacting with the farm dogs and was sad to leave them behind. Valeria was very responsive to questions and requests. Thank you

THANK YOU for staying with us! It was a pleasure to host you. Please consider us again if you find yourself back in our area!
Great option for anyone needing lodging if they have students at FHU. So close to campus! Loved all the farm animals and the silo store. Sleeps seven so great option for families or friends that want to stay together. Cooked 2 meals there and really enjoyed that as well. Valeria was so helpful and accommodating. Love the soap we bought at the silo store and just wish we had found Stillwater Farm before now since our daughter is graduating. Really want to go back some time!

Deana & Brett, families like yours are what we exist for! It was an absolute pleasure seeing you enjoy our farm, and we invite you back any time you need a little getaway from the big city. Thank you so very much for choosing us!
Our stay at Stillwaters Farm was delightful. The host Valerie was very kind and welcoming. You could tell when she said to make ourselves at home, she meant it. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed. We had a peaceful and restful time at the cottage. When my husband played his banjo in the carport, the peacock came and listened. If you want to enjoy nature and love country settings, this is the place. Valerie will make sure you feel welcome.

It was absolutely our pleasure to host you! Anytime you find yourselves coming back to our area, please keep us in mind--we would jump at the opportunity to host you again. You are awesome people!
This was a wonderful place to getaway from the hectic city life. The cottage is located on a working farm and it was common to have the peacock and pea hen and their two babies nesting right off of the side door. The chickens and dogs were frequent visitors. The home is very comfortable - nothing fancy, which was fine. We are not fancy people. Valerie, the host, was a perfect host! Very responsive for any problems. And a wonderful surprise was the on-sight winery - Forty Cannons Winery. We had a lovely wine tasting and we really enjoyed the wine! We will definitely return.

The farm was absolutely beautiful! All the animals were very friendly, but the host made the stay! She was extremely friendly and welcoming. Truly made us feel like we were part of the family and that we belonged there. Highly recommend taking one of the classes she offers while staying there. The cottages was nice and cozy. Overall, an absolutely delightful place for a vacation!

Troy, you and your family were amazing guests--THANK YOU for choosing us for your stay in Henderson! We will look forward to seeing you all again. And, remember--stay with us once, you're guests. Stay with us twice? Well, you're part of the farm family then!! Wishing you a wonderful end to your summer!
I had to quickly arrange a place for my husband to stay due to his job for a few days with the possibility to add more. I had never used VRBO before and decided to try it.
Owner was amazing at answering my questions. My husband stayed a total of 3 nights. He said there were things to do on the property and animals, an outside sitting area, but he didn't get the chance to enjoy any since it was just sleep and off to work. He also said it was quiet and the bed is comfortable. If you're looking for a quiet place with great people and fun things to do check out this place. 👍

About the host
Hosted by Valeria Pitoni
A former college professor, certified soapmaker, and sixth-generation Florida native, I moved to West Tennessee with my family, our business, and a few larger-than-us dreams in 2006. Since then, we have transformed our 153+ acre farm from an abandoned and broken down has-been into a beautiful destination for family and guests. My husband and I own and operate several businesses from the farm, including Wild Roses Artisanal, my brand for the artisanal soaps, soy candles, and other products that I hand-make right here on the farm.
Why they chose this property
In a stereotypical "Green Acres" move, my husband and I chose to give up the high-stress "city life" for the more laid-back rural life. After looking for more than two years in the state of Florida, we set out to find a place that we could make our own--somewhere between my home state of Florida and his home state of New York. We settled on Tennessee--West Tennessee, to be exact--and have never looked back.
What makes this property unique
Peace, privacy, rest, and rejuvenation. These are some of the unique qualities that our farm provides. Whether it's through the sweeping vistas of the rolling countryside, or the laugh-inspiring antics of the many animal inhabitants that we call "family", stress begins to abate as soon as you enter the gate. We've taken great pains to make each of our accommodations as user-friendly as possible, and we've tried to anticipate our guests' every need. We provide the peace of the country--just a short drive from the convenience of the city.
