excellent option in the town of Salmon

This gorgeous cabin is located at the edge of Salmon city and the owner is extremely helpful. The cabin is well equipped and just a few minutes from downtown Salmon. For activities in the area Rawhide oufitters is an excellent option.

A Great Find

After 7 arduous days on the road, our Salmon cabin gave us exactly what we needed to rest and relax. We were lulled to sleep by the sounds of the nearby stream. We could choose from many options for relaxing on the wraparound porch. The cabin was spotless and the bed was comfortable. The kitchen had everything, even a salad spinner. Ralph, the owner, was very communicative, and he answered my questions and provided suggestions in a very timely manner. The landscaping around the cabin was another plus. At the edge of town, it felt like we were in the country from the deck. There isn’t much room for unpacking.

Quiet, Relaxing Getaway

This inviting cabin was the perfect spot for a BFF's trip, and the owners definitely understand hospitality. Our favorite part of the home was the deck, featuring comfy rocking chairs in the shade with a tremendous view of the surrounding mountains. Having a welcome reprieve from TV and WIFI, we spent hours here in the evenings catching up, telling stories, and admiring the cabin's landscaping as well. During the day, we enjoyed checking out the town of Salmon, touring the Sacagawea Center, and hiking to Goldbug Hot Springs, a quick drive away. The owners were excellent, giving us recommendations for these activities and the best restaurants in town. Kindly, they were flexible with check in, which was most appreciated on the hot afternoon when we were anxious to settle in. From planning stages to check out, they were very helpful, open and clear in communication. Although our vacation lasted only two short days, these accommodations were most impressive, and if plans bring me back to Salmon, this cabin will be my first choice of where to stay. Many thanks, Ralph and Deb!!

Beautiful cabin and landscaping on the river

Loved the cabin next to the river. The cabin feels secluded because of the beautiful landscaping that hides neighbors. It’s perfect for a couple retreat. The door into the bathroom inside the bedroom is louvred, not a lot of privacy if that’s an issue. Bed is comfortable, kitchen has everything you need. Great place. Host is very helpful.

Sweet cabin by the creek

We had the most wonderful time staying in cozy cabin by the creek. It was our base camp before and after a multi-day river trip - plug for Idaho Adventures Rafting! It was charming, clean, tidy and cheerful. The open layout and large wrap around deck made the small cabin seem much larger. Generous supply of coffee, spices and supplies were much appreciated. The landscaping that wraps around the house is lush and lovely. It was spring so the creek was running high - lulled us to sleep with the windows open. Host was very responsive, accommodating and helpful. The posting, last we checked, said no wifi but wifi is available and plenty fast. Read instructions for managing the hot water for the shower carefully before showering. No cleaning fee is charged which we were grateful for, so leave some time to do dishes and sweep before you leave. Quiet neighborhood and Very close to town to get groceries, but we didn't venture out otherwise - just enjoyed staying at "home" :) Can't recommend it more highly - we'll be back for our next river trip!

Mountain cabin in the middle of town

Great cabin for a couple visiting Salmon! Located in the heart of town, but the large lot, fire pit & creek make you feel like you're out in the woods. Visited during the fall so we really enjoyed the gas logs stove.

Very relaxing and enjoyed the atmosphere

Loved the location. Close to town but once you were there you felt there was no one else around except all the deer we were able to see and watch. The fall foliage around the cabin and other foliage was amazing. Very comfy and cozy. Appreciated the owners being so accessible.

About the host

Hosted by Ralph and Debra Swift

Host profile image
We are a retired couple who lived in Salmon for 18 years prior to moving to Wyoming for a job opportunity. We purchased the property in 2006 with plan for a retirement home. We decided instead to move to the Boise area to be nearer to the kids and grandkids. We still love the Salmon area and have many friends there. We wanted a place, beyond our camp trailer, to stay when we visit the area and friends. We had an opportunity to buy a log shell from a log home builder in Salmon. We bought it and moved it to the property as our home away from home. We use it mainly in the early spring and late fall.
We both grew up in small towns in Eastern Colorado and still enjoy the small town feeling that Salmon offers but yet it has the amenities of most large towns. Salmon has many outdoor recreation activities that we enjoy as well as restaurants. It has a challenging 9-hole golf course, many scenic areas, parks, river walks, mtn. bike trails and other. We feel Salmon is an undiscovered area that can use a boost from tourism. We decided to open our cabin for visitors to enjoy this beautiful valley and friendly people.

Why they chose this property

Looking for a base for an outdoor vacation without camping? This cabin takes you back to an earlier time but still offers many comforts of home. It provides a place to relax on the deck or sit by a cozy fire. It provides a place to view nature and to dream of how it might have been back in pioneer days. The cabin sleeps 3 comfortably but has areas for young children with a bit of adventure.

What makes this property unique

There is nothing like sitting on the front deck with a cup of coffee or a beer looking out at the Bitteroot Mtns. The large side deck offers a place to gather, grill a burger or steak, and look out over the landscaping and vegetation along the creek. We have used native plants for the most part to landscape in front and off the deck. This is challenging as the deer also like this area and can often be seen along the creek; along with many birds and humming birds feeding on the flowers. It is a great weekend get away or a home base for a week vacation.
