About Craig Johnstone
The owners are Craig and Silke Johnstone and their eleven-year-old daughter. Craig is a retired US Ambassador currently sitting on three non-profit humanitarian boards. Silke is an executive at the Boeing Company. They live in Seattle but spend a good portion of every summer and most winters at Loon Lake. The large Adirondack style tree house belongs, of course, to our daughter. Entry to the treehouse by a not-too-hard climbing wall.
Craig Johnstone purchased this House in 2011
Why Craig Johnstone chose Vermontville
You can't not love this property once you see the view of the lake and the mountains or walk the hiking trails. It is well worth our many commutes from far-away Seattle.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat
We had a wonderful vacation enjoying your beautiful home. We loved the wrap around deck and wonderful views of the lake. Canoeing and kayaking on Loon was so peaceful and I was happy the boats were included. We had an opportunity to play a little tennis as well. We enjoyed the variety of hiking the Adirondacks have to offer. We hiked the local trails as well as Baxter Mountain and Hopkins. All had spectacular views. We also took a few excursions to Ausable Chasm and Whiteface. Thank you so much for sharing your home and we will be sure to visit again!
The property was great for us
It was a very special stay for us as we had our whole family here for our 50th wedding anniversary a total of 3 families including six adults, one teenager and two young children. We all fit nicely and the lake house was wonderful. The beautiful lake was a prefect setting, we enjoyed the canoeing and the kids enjoyed the fishing. It was nice that the owners were here and stopped by to say hello.
Ski Weekend Getaway
The home was very nice and cozy. Any problems we had (minor) where dealth with quickly by Leo. We will go back again
Beautiful house and gorgeous property!
The house is in beautiful shape and the views are stunning! I would recommend this house to anyone who is looking for a nice weekend getaway in the Adirondack’s!
Great location on a pristine lake
We had a fabulous time at Loon Lake in this beautiful well provisioned home! The home is on a very private lot situated on a bluff above the lake. There are great views of the lake from the large deck. There is a new Weber grill on the deck. A short walk (about a minute) down a trail brings you to a dock with a kayak and a canoe. There is good swimming off of the dock. We enjoyed two hikes during our week stay. One hike up Loon Lake Mountain and another up Debar mountain. Both hikes were medium difficulty with spectacular summit views. Our two reccomendations are to fix the sliding door from the dining room onto the deck. It is very difficult to open and close. Also it is difficult to launch the canoe into the lake due to its weight and location. Other then these minor issues, this is a terrific home and a great value.
Beautiful house on a quiet lake
We stayed in this house for the first week of July, for a family vacation. This was our first time in the Adirondacks. We enjoyed hiking, exploring the area, and then returning to this peaceful retreat. The house itself is beautiful, and Loon Lake is quiet, about 3 miles in length, with few houses on its shores -- perfect for paddling. The house comes with a kayak and a canoe. My only complaint is that the walk down to the shore is rather steep, and the kayak and canoe are kept on a platform a good distance from the water, so getting them down to the dock and into the water isn't easy. It took a couple of strong people to get them down the path, down the steps to the dock, into the water, and then back again after each trip. Otherwise, everything about this house is perfect.
A setting of exceptional beauty and tranquility.. Kayak in the morning mist. Listen for the call of the Loons. Loon Lake is a paradise.
