Current magazines are also available as well as hiking and guide books for the area. You will find a Gas grill on the deck, complete with utensils. While grilling, relax in the rockers and enjoy the lush forest view; soaking in the fresh air, bird song, and pine ladened breezes. The fire pit on the deck adds to your relaxing experience. Enjoy seasonal mountain views for much of the year as well; see our many pictures!

The two Master suites each have a private open-air deck accessible by sliding glass doors with bench seating to enjoy the fire pit, sunset views, star gazing, and separate access to the screen porch for dining and board games. Additionally, one of the Masters has private access to the bathroom and a large private sitting room. The Two Master suites are separated by a great room with a 13-foot cedar lap siding wall (filling the air with a fresh cedar aroma) crowned with windows that let in the morning sun, a dining area, 1/2 bath with a dishwasher plus stacked washer, and dryer and a fully appointed Kitchen.

A Stepp Away is an ideal home base for one or two couples to hike, sightsee, shop, try new restaurants and explore the beautiful mountain area, then relax in the evenings in the great room, sitting room, by the fire pit, or in a comfy rocking chair on the screen porch. Blankets are available for those chilly mountain nights! A large flat parking area also works well for those who like to fish and bring their boat with them.

Perfect Cabin for Quiet Retreat

This wonderful cabin is exactly as shown in the photos. It was clean, well-appointed and beautifully decorated. Our hosts, David and Leta, went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. It was the perfect place for two good friends to get away for a spiritual retreat. We each had our own space for privacy and individual study, and when we shared time in the great room, kitchen or on the screened porch, we found everything we needed to make us feel "at home." We enjoyed our time at the cabin, as well as getting to know our gracious hosts. We look forward to returning for another girls' get-away; next time we plan to get out more and enjoy the nearby waterfalls and the magnificent mountain views. Hopefully we can stay longer next time! We did not want to leave!

Indeed - A Stepp Away - Awesome!!

From the moment we walked up to the gorgeous custom door to enjoying the long easy mornings around the fire-pit, our stay was perfection. Our beds were very comfortable, view lovely, and all amenities were enjoyed. Very clean and spelled so fresh too. I highly recommend this cabin. It's conveniently located in the mountains which enabled us to make day trips to other beautiful towns: Helen, Blue Ridge, Ellijay, Dillard, GA, and then, Highlands, NC. Best cabin ever!!

Quiet Getaway Cabin

From the moment we walked in to A Stepp Away we felt very welcomed. The cabin was decorated for Christmas and had a gift basket full of goodies for our stay. They even supplied us a few New Year celebration supplies, which was very thoughtful! We enjoyed spending time on the deck with the new fire pit and having our morning coffee on the screened in porch. The bed was very comfortable, and the cabin has everything you need to enjoy your stay. We spent most of our time hiking on the Appalachian Tail. We enjoyed views from Powell Mountain and Unicoi Gap. We also did a day trip to Dry Falls and Secret Falls. The cabin is close to town and easy to get to. Overall, we loved our stay and will be back for sure!

Comfortable & cozy cabin

We liked the place very much, everything matched their description, except for the trees which were not as colorful as the pictures, since it was the end of November, ha ha ha.... It was such a perfect place & we had a relaxing week. Thank you!

Relaxing Mountain Stay

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at A Stepp Away Cabin. It is very close to the town of Hiawassee so we were able to shop and dine out easily. The cabin itself is so charming and had everything we needed for our stay. Most of our time spent at the cabin was on the back deck. Beautiful views of the surrounding woods. The drive up is not too steep either. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this cabin!

Pleasant

House was very clean, nicely decorated and had everything needed for stay. Instruction manual provided which gave excellent recommendations for places to visit. Back porch was nice but had no Mountain View. Master bed was very comfortable however sofa in living room was not. Owner provided guest with a goodie bag, which was nice. Overall our stay was good.

Only one issue

Great property but we did not enjoy the neighbors noisy animals and loud engines in the morning. Sitting on the back deck with a coffee or hot chocolate would have been more enjoyable if we did not have to listen to the rooster, donkey or loud engine noise.

Lovely place in the woods

Very quaint place to stay. Very clean and well stocked. The owner was very responsive with all of our questions. It is not too far from the town and lake. I do believe that the description should state that it has seasonal views of the mountains. The woods outside of the back porch are lovely but when fully in bloom there are no views of the mountains. The sofa and recliner in the living room area has seen a lot of use, and could possibly use a refresh down the road, but we did enjoy a nice nap on them.

Thanksgiving Getaway

Drove from flat Florida for a mountain and water fall filled thanksgiving getaway, and that’s exactly what we got. Given the property location does state “mountain and lake views” sadly there aren’t any from the cabin itself. The lake is a short drive away, and breathtaking to pass. As well as the Mountain View’s, I mean, your stayin in a mountain so it’s a fair trade. The cabin was roomy and comfy, and had everything we needed for a comfortable holiday away from home. You even get a nice little souvenir from the Reeveses. Would recommend

Respite

The house was well suited for my wife and I. I would not be comfortable sharing the house with other non-family members, even though there is a second bedroom. The one full bath is adjacent to the Master BR. The WiFi connection was really good. The tidiness and cleanliness was welcomed. The location is convenient but the neighboring properties are less desirable and there are no “views”.

Stepp Away was the best safe getaway!

We haven’t left home since February due to COVID. We wanted a weekend getaway for our anniversary that was safe and secluded. The cabin was freshly cleaned, everything was spotless. The porches gave great outdoor relaxation and even the rain was beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked and the basics provided. Great WiFi and Ooma phone line to stay in touch. If you’re looking for a getaway at a lovely location with access to mountains, hiking, waterfalls, or just to get away... check out Stepp Away. The owners left us a lovely note card, our name on the welcome sign, and a little gift bag of chocolates for our anniversary. We will be back.

A Great Getaway

This stay began as a simple change of scenery for us, but to our delight, the property in which we stayed gave us that and a temporary "home away from home". Comfortable, welcoming and fully equipped, it was a home base for all the many activities we enjoyed. Don't let your search of all the places to relax in the Georgia mountains distract you from "A Stepp Away". You'll love it here.

Wonderful Stay

My wife and I enjoyed the convenience of the cabin. We wanted to be close to Hiawassee and Lake Chatuge but enough in the mountains to enjoy the cabin experience and Stepp Away was perfect. Everything was on one floor which was great for my wife who has knee replacements. Cabin had easy access without steep entry road all paved with generous parking. We found the kitchen well stocked and the main bathroom was a good size with a great shower. We spent four days on the Lake and remainder on shopping trips to Alexander's Store, Blairsville, and Blue Ridge. Stepp Away was a peaceful, comfortable retreat to start and finish each day. Hope to return soon.

Nice cabin for seniors

Cabin is all one floor, which is great for those of us who have trouble with stairs. We spent a lot of time relaxing in the covered screened-in porch. No neighbors that you could see, very peaceful. Everything we needed was there. No cell service, but WiFi was great and we could use the landline for calls. Paved driveway and ample parking space also a plus!

About the host

Hosted by David & Leta Reeves

Host profile image
This was our cabin that has been our "just a Stepp away" from Atlanta for many years where we reunited with nature as a respite from our challenging jobs. We love this area so much that we decided to purchase our retirement home in this wonderful community after looking at many others. Our new home gave us the opportunity to share a piece of our heaven with others by sharing our cabin.

Why they chose this property

Single Story "no stairs" quaint cabin in a small quiet community with all the amenities of the city-great diverse restaurants, events, and shows, lots of shopping, nice people, with lovely mountain and lake views everywhere you go.

What makes this property unique

It features a single story with no stairs. It is so very quiet which makes it super relaxing. Close enough to Hiawassee, Lake Chatuge, and restaurants with no city lights to disturb the view of the stars, and no busy activity to scare the deer and birds away.
