Welcome to Castlehaven, our beautiful light-filled haven designed by noted local architect Bob Hartstock. Just a two minute walk from the Scenic Bluff Top Trail and Salal Cove, our house is located in the desirable north end of Sea Ranch. We are only a mile from the charming town of Gualala.

This lovingly and beautifully decorated home includes original artwork by a local artist, a private office, 2 master suite bedrooms, plus a private guest bedroom and 2 1/2 baths. The open living room borders on a dining area that seats 4, a music nook with a baby grand piano, and a fully-equipped kitchen with bar implements and glassware.

Outside in our spacious and private courtyard, you will enjoy outdoor dining, access to a BBQ, and a wonderful, soothing hot tub with a view of the night skies. Wildlife is abundant here. Wake to the sounds of the Ocean, and enjoy seeing birds, deer and fox right outside your window, and from the front patio.

The first master suite has French doors leading to a lovely private garden, and a large, heart-shaped Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. The second master has a gorgeous view of the golf course and the ocean beyond. The third bedroom is a very private haven separate from the main house, across the courtyard from the hot tub. All bedrooms have queen size beds with memory foam mattresses. A washer and dryer are available, including soaps, and fabric softeners.

For our guest's enjoyment, we have a huge selection of books, movies on DVD, CDs, "streaming" TV, DirecTV and board games to while away your time when you are relaxing after being immersed in nature and all the activities of Sea Ranch. Please be aware that the fireplaces are non-functional because of problems with smoke and soot. Besides the Bluff Top Trail, there are three recreation centers with heated swimming pools, saunas, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, 50+ miles of hiking trails, mountain biking trails, beautiful coastal views and hidden waterfalls. All this awaits you here at Castlehaven.

The website shows a birds-eye-view of the 9th tee. Was VERY disappointed to find out that the golf course was actually closed! That was actually one of the reasons I booked this house.

Coastal perfection!

This was a perfect place to spend a few days in July! The weather was amazing and the walk along the bluff trail occupied most of our days. We saw so much wildlife! The house itself has beautiful architecture, spacious places to unwind and read/relax, and of course the hot tub. The beds were comfy with soft linens. About 4 minutes drive away there is Surf Market that supplies anything you could hope to cook. John was easy to communicate with and the check-in/check-out was well organized and easy to understand. We can’t wait to find a time to return!

Castle haven stay

Excellent location at the north end of The Sea Ranch. Convenient to golf course, trails, several beaches, Gualala businesses and river activities. Has a private ‘feel’ and is nicely appointed.

Castlehaven is a slice of heaven

My husband and I, along with his sister and her husband just had a fabulous weekend at Castlehaven. The architecture of the home itself is quite unique. Add the perfect Sea Ranch location, two ensuite bedrooms in the house (there is also a third bedroom that we did not use), well equiped kitchen, hot tub -- all 5 minutes from the Bluff Trail, and it is truly a special place. Communication with our host was quite easy and check out a dream. We hope to return!

Perfect!

Respite from the storm

Very happy with location at Sea Ranch. Very well appointed. And very roomy. We could separate as needed. Especially w studio room detached. Ours was a stormy weekend so we just holed in and read and watched movies and cooked. We will definitely rent again.

Lovely home in heavenly Sea Ranch.

We had a great stay here, and the piano was a treat. The third bedroom is next to the garage and has no bathroom. Anyone in there would to come inside. The showers Are in the nice en suites for the other 2 bathrooms.

Fantastic

Very well equipped home in a great location. The kitchen was well stocked. The two master suites are big and beautiful. The owner couldn't have been more responsive - he is great. It is one of the cleanest houses we've stayed at in Sea Ranch. The common space, meaning living room seating, is a bit small with two love seat couches, but was very cozy for our group. The location is great given that it's at the Northern end of Sea Ranch which is so beautiful for hiking and driving quickly into town as well as being close to the Del Mar rec center. We also loved the hot tubs, moon and sun watching and watching the golfers.

Easter get away

Got together with a few girlfriends for a weekend getaway. We went for a long walks along the Bluffs and out to dinner in Gualala. It was a very relaxing weekend. This property is a great location close to town close to hiking trails right out the front and back door. The only thing, I would recommend is that you bring your own soap and shower gel there is no soap in any of the bathrooms except for hand soap. Also, it would be nice to have a couple bigger towels for the hot tub. Other than that everything is perfect. !!

A Very Nice Home but not a repeat for us

This is a very nice home in a good location and I feel almost anyone renting here would be mostly happy with their stay. I would note however that if you are into cooking and looking to do some nice meals while staying at Sea Ranch then this is probably not the home for you. The kitchen appliances are not of the highest quality and the utensils, cookware and so on are not going to make you happy. That's more or less in keeping with most of the home overall...it is a rental and it feels like every item that wasn't used any longer somewhere else wound up here. Access to the walking trail was fine but not great and the view was pretty darn good but we couldn't get a clear look at it most of the time because the two large view windows had broken seals...and so they fogged up internally thus clouding our view. Nothing real negative to be upset about, just not the quality we are looking for...or what the house could be for that matter.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Sea Ranch, spending our time hiking the nearby trails and playing golf on the recently re-opened course. Ocean views, beautiful weather and a clean and comfortable home with plenty of room to spread out, made our stay very relaxing. We were conveniently located to both Gualala and the Sea Ranch Lodge. Our host, John, was quick to respond to any questions we had.

Lovely location and nice views. Hot tub was perfect temperature. Very nice dining area. Direct TV did not work but we informed the host and that was just a minor inconvenience. Overall, we had a great time and loved the fact that it was only a few minutes from Gualala.

Poor responsiveness from owner

The place was a beautiful place to stay but when we got there my daughter found four spiders in her bed as well as other unidentifiable bugs in her bed and refused to sleep in that room. The oven did not work and only one burner worked which made it very difficult for cooking. The location is spectacular but would have appreciated everything clean and in working order.

Idyllic stay

The property was just as advertised and a lovely getaway for us for two nights. The access to coastal walks was a breeze and gorgeous, and the proximity to what we wanted to e plots was exactly as described. Great home near ocean

It was a great property near the ocean and bluff trails/ hiking trails. It is also located in the northern part of Sea Ranch, so it is close to town (Gualala)—just a beautiful home and location.

Why they chose this property

Our first trip to Sea Ranch was 25 years ago. We had a wonderful experience, and kept coming back at least annually in future years. We finally realized that it was time to purchase in this beautiful community, where the neighbors are drawn together by their shared vision of "living lightly on the land."

What makes this property unique

There were a number of Sea Ranch properties available when we were looking throughout the years, but we were drawn to Castlehaven because of its soaring ceilings in every room, its graceful curves, and the sound of the ocean from its french doors that open to the front patio. After we purchased Castlehaven, we were fortunate to be able to work with the original architect to make some necessary updates and changes.
