Bois D'Arc Cabin has recently been completely remodeled, it is surrounded by 17,863 acres of the Caddo National Grasslands (public land).
Just around the corner are 2 lakes, Lake Crockett (450 acres) and Coffee Mill Lake (750 acres) great for hybrid bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie fishing which is restocked regularly.
Another fun excursion for everyone is Ladonia Fossil Park where you can search for real fossils which is about 20-25 mins from the cabin.
Trails for hiking and wildlife viewing are also used for bike riders. Trail maps are available from the US Forest Service.
Horseback riding is allowed year-round. Contact the Forest Service for information on access points for horses and trailers.
The Bois d' Arc Creek Unit has several multi-use trails leading from the two main lakes, Coffee Mill Lake and Lake Davy Crockett. North American birds and native wildlife can be seen year-round. During the summer more songbirds visit and can be heard near the lake areas. Beavers and otters inhabit the lakesides.
The Ladonia Unit habitat attracts dickcissels, eastern meadowlarks, sedge wrens, and scissor-tailed flycatchers. Care should be taken when accessing the Ladonia Unit because of the undefined boundaries.

Downtown Honey Grove is about 15 minutes out and has some great antiques and vintage shopping. If you spend some time exploring the stores and meeting the owners you won't regret learning about this gem.
Honey Grove has the largest concentration of historic homes of any town in Fannin County, and perhaps any town in northeast Texas. When "cotton was king", Honey Grove was a very wealthy place. The cotton barons and merchants built beautiful homes and churches and lived a lavish lifestyle. There was also a great emphasis on religion and education in Honey Grove.
Take the driving tour to see over 50 historic homes and buildings, starting in the historic Square.
