3 well equipped gites with swimming pool on the Loire Valley/Vienne border
Luxury self catering gites in beautiful, quiet rural surroundings of the Poitou-Charentes. Situated on the Loire/Vienne border close to Futuroscope, Chateaux, Vineyards of Saumur and Chinon as well as historic towns such as Poitiers, Tours and Richelieu.
Our three gites date back to the 16th Century and were part of a former winery which have been sympathetically converted in 2018/9, providing spacious accommodation with modern facilities. All gites have private terraces with seating and bbq which open onto large communal gardens with 10m x 5m in ground swimming pool. We have converted our former bakery into a games room with pool table, football table, dart board and toys for younger children. We have two large tables and chairs for all guests to dine together either outside undercover or inside Le Pressoir.
The characterful stone cottages under clay tile roofs offer much historic interest such as flag stone floors, exposed oak beams, indoor well covered with safety glass, vaulted ceilings and lime washed walls. The accommodation comprises of:
Le Pressoir - Two first floor bedrooms, both with en suite shower rooms and walk in wardrobes, bedroom 1 has an extra large bed and bedroom 2 has two single beds. On the ground floor there is an open plan living room, kitchen and dining area with large table and chairs for up to 17 guests.
La Maison du Puits - The first floor has a master bedroom with extra large bed and en suite shower room. There is also a bedroom with 3 single beds and sofa. On the ground floor there is a further bedroom with an extra large bed, kitchen/dining room with covered well, sitting room and a bathroom off the main stone staircase.
La Vieille Maison - The first floor has 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms, one bedroom has an extra large bed and en suite shower room and the other two bedrooms have 2 single bedrooms in each room and share a bathroom. On the ground floor there is a spacious kitchen/breakfast room and a large sitting room with comfortable sofas and a television with french and english channels.
Bedlinen and towels are supplied for all guests including swimming pool towels in the summer season. After stay cleaning is included in the cost of the stay.
Set in a quiet rural hamlet on the border of the Vienne and Loire within 3 kms from a town called Monts Sur Guesnes with a chateau, restaurant, bakers, convenience store, tourist office, bank, pharmacy etc. The nearby medieval towns of Richelieu, Chinon, Poitiers, Tours and Saumur offer excellent entertainment including chateaux, wine tours, fine dining, zoos, shopping, golf and the amusement parks of Futuroscope and Puy de Fou.

Great property and great owners who were very responsive. We were a large group of friends and our children - pool was excellent and lots of space for kids to run around.
What an awesome place to take a vacation. We were a family of 16 and used all 3 charming gites in Princay. Each gite offered its own unique character, giving us a true taste of French living. The gites were comfortable, well equipped and perfect for relaxing after days exploring the region. We loved the outdoor space and pool area. With added bonus of the games room. The hosts were very welcoming and on hand to answer any queries we had. A truly memorable experience for us all.
The setting with three separate areas (gîtes) but with the ability to have meals together both in a sheltered outside place and inside in the largest gîte was wonderful! Sam and Mark we're perfect hosts with just the right amount of friendly interaction. The fresh veg and Sparklung wine were lovely additions.plenty if towels made pool time great and the games room was a wonderful (and given the inclement weather) addition!
A lovely place which has been restored to a high standard while keeping the atmosphere of a French country farm building.
We would live to come again!
We travelled to Princay as a family of 16, 8 adults and 8 children between 4 and 8. It had been very hard finding a configuration of properties that suited us and this was exactly what we needed.
The properties are converted and done in a way that is sympathetic to their original use, the floors and walls weren't all even, but it added to the charm for us. The kitchens were well equipped and even had sharp knives for cooking, which can be quite unusual.
The family loved the peace and quiet, it was safe for the children and the games room and pool worked well.
Although towns and attractions are a drive away it was easy driving and the roads were very peaceful and clear. We really enjoyed our stay. The weather of course helped, but different family members were able to do different visits.
Sam and Mark were very helpful, answering all our questions and would thoroughly recommend this property (s)
Perfect stay in rural France for 3 generation holiday
From the first moment we booked our holiday Sam was really helpful quickly responding to any questions we had .
All 3 gites are well kitted out from comfy beds to everything you need in the kitchen to prepare food bought in the local markets . It’s location is so peaceful but only a 5 minute drive to the nearest shops.
The games room was a great addition too .
We will be back .
Having booked our holiday during lockdown, our family group of 16 people had 18 months to look forward to our stay in Princay and we were not disappointed! Mark and Sam were fabulous hosts, on hand when needed and full of useful advice about the local area. The gites are spacious and have been renovated to a very good standard, with little touches (such as welcome bubbly and delicacies) really appreciated. The pool was a godsend in the heat and we all enjoyed the games room. The gites are in a lovely quiet area and although we spent most of our time around the pool we did venture out to a couple local towns - we especially liked Chinon and Richelieu. Sam and Mark recommended a lake with watersports (about 30 minutes drive away) which was fantastic with inflatable "wipe out" games on and a beach with plenty of shade, we enjoyed it so much we went back for a second day! Our family group ranged in age from 6 - 75 and we all had a fabulous time. Highly recommended.
Amicalement
Thierry

About the host
Hosted by Samantha Sowton
Mark and Sam were previously based in the UK employed in architecture and property development. We moved to France in 2017 with our two daughters, Millie and Hattie and bought a derelict former winery which we have totally renovated and converted to create our own home and two spacious gites. We hope to see you soon to share this beautiful part of France with you.
Why they chose this property
After having a few holidays in this area of France we fell in love with it and decided to make it our home, a decision we have not regretted. We have travelled extensively around France but particularly enjoy this region partly due to it's fabulous climate, we have very little rain and more sunshine than most of the rest of France, and the many historic towns and tourist sites we have very locally. The people here have been incredibly warm and welcoming.
What makes this property unique
Our property oozes historic character and features. All three gites have beautiful oak beamed ceilings and limestone walls. La Maison du Puits, named because of the well in the centre of the gite which we have covered with safety glass to make it a fabulous feature, also has the original limestone staircase. All the properties overlook the central courtyard with it's planted wine barrels and lawn. On the other side of the gites is the in ground swimming pool which is fenced for security and large lawns for children to play. We have recently converted the former bread oven or bakery building which is another stunning feature and houses the pool table, football table and darts board. A great holiday destination with something for everyone.
