Finished to the highest standards, offering space and comfort, while maintaining many features of traditional Japanese architecture. The space has been completely gutted and restored, with only the ceilings, and 2nd floor floorboards of the kura remaining original. The cavernous entranceway opens into a large kitchen with seating for up to 15 people. From the kitchen there is access to the lounge (complete with double sofa bed) and master bedroom (double bed) with ensuite bathroom. Further down the hallway is found the second bathroom and entrance to the kura. The kura has two floors, with a double bed on the first floor and three single beds on the second floor.

Hamish provided a wealth of information that enabled us to make the most of our week. We were traveling with our adult son who travels internationally for business. The property suited us well. We appreciated having two bathrooms, excellent WiFi, and the well equipped kitchen. We found wonderful coffee houses during our drives around the coast. If you are there in the summer, you can enjoy the magnificent beach that is a pleasant 15 minute walk away. We appreciated the heating/cooling units in the bedrooms. After visiting a number of Japanese cities, this stay gave us a glimpse of daily life in a more remote setting.

Thank you so much for staying with us Margaret, we are so glad you had a nice time in our little corner of the world. Please do think of us if you are ever back in Japan.
All the best and most sincere regards. Hamish Pidgeon.
About the host
Hosted by Hamish Pidgeon
Hamish and Nora, from New Zealand and Australia. Two ex-pats who loved living in Kyoto city, until they found the Tango peninsula. After owning our house here for fourteen years, our feelings for the place have only grown stronger. When the opportunity arose to buy the adjoining property (now this lodge), we jumped at the chance. It has been a massive undertaking, but the results are spectacular!
Why they chose this property
Previously the main house attached to the loom factory, the apartment has been restored to the highest standards and is fully insulated, meaning it remains cool inside, even on the hottest August days, yet warm in winter. The large kitchen can accomodate up to 15 people, making it a great place to cater to your family or group. Plenty of room for all, meaning everyone can get involved in preparing meals. There is also plenty of space outside, for parking or playing. Asobi Lodge is the perfect place for a coastal holiday.
What makes this property unique
Asobi Lodge is located only 200 metres from the Japan Sea. 500 metres away is Kotobikihama beach, which offers beautiful squeaky sand (famous in Japan), and crystal clear water that is swimmable from May to November every year. A 20 minute walk along the beach will bring you to the free hot spring on the beach. That's right. FREE! Pure spring water is drawn from around 700 metres below the surface. You can enjoy a beautiful sunset from the pool. The perfect way to end a day!
