About Joel and Betsy Salter
The photo above was taken at Beacon Rock state park. One of the reasons we live in the Portland, OR is to have easy access to the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood, the Willamette and Columbia Rivers and it's only a 2 hour drive to the Oregon coast - well worth a day trip if your time is limited!
Joel and Betsy Salter purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Joel and Betsy Salter chose Mount Tabor
When I first moved to Portland I stopped at the Horse Brass pub. I liked it so much that I looked for a house in the neighborhood. The tuck under two car garage was a bonus. Also, very convenient to downtown or for heading up the Columbia Gorge for a day hike. Or if you're flying in the MAX train will deliver you to the 60th street station and it is an easy walk or short taxi ride to the house. There are two grocery stores near by for all your food needs, There are a couple of coffee shops and many restaurants within walking distance. If you like to bike there are dedicated bike routes to downtown and anywhere else you would like to go. I bike commute to work, and that was another reason for buying the house in this neighborhood.

Simple and clean
Nothing fancy but just fine for what most would need. Good location close to food and freeway. The owners were easy to communicate with and very nice. We’d go back.
As stated in all of the other reviews, the location is excellent, wonderful hosts and very comfortable space. We truly enjoyed our time there. Great neighborhood amenities and close to transit. It was so easy to get around and explore. We hope to make it back again. Highly recommend!
Great quiet neighborhood
Exactly as advertised, close to transit to get anywhere in Portland easily.
Mt. Tabor super outdoor space within walking distance.
Great value for the money
The hosts were wonderful people, the place was clean and had all the amenities that I required.
homey Portland place
We had a great 5 night stay at Joel and Betsy's place in Portland. We selected it partly on price but also due to proximity to MAX mass transit. We never had to use our car to get to downtown, and got to see all the sights. Their place is also really close to two grocery stores (walking distance), one a medium-sized QFC and the other large Fred Meyers. We also enjoyed a local pub within a short walk from Joel and Betsy's place. Both were immediately responsive when things came up, and were really helpful about things to do in the area and in Portland. There are also a bunch of good books (including tourist books about Portland) and brochures and maps in the unit. The bed was great, and the shower was terrific, looks brand new! There is a full kitchen that worked well for us, and Betsy provided helpful guidance on recycling, trash and composting. Another plus is the proximity to the freeway to get to and from Portland (there is access to 85 right up the street from their place, very easy to get to). We really enjoyed our stay, it was a fun and relaxing introduction to Portland. We feel very fortunate that we weren't "trapped" in more expensive and less resourceful hotels downtown!
Nice quiet place in basement. For us, close to where we needed to be.
We're well located for airport access, driving to the gorge, riding on MAX the local light rail system, bus, bike. Near everything you want to be near.
