About this property

The Nest... beach and lakeside, for bird twitchers, nature and astronomy lovers!

Large and comfortable Coastal Queenslander, styled for a relaxed vacation for the quiet we all desire. No earplugs required unless you want to deaden the sound of silence! We have carefully restored this tired old vintage to a youthful house that has an energy to invoke the most dormant talent in you.
We have a full spacious kitchen, seperate dining, lounge room that connects to the super comfy verandah, 3 bedrooms, great laundry, seperate powder room and bathroom. The yards are spacious, and the back deck invites you out for sunbathing, a cold beer, and the spectacular night sky, so bring your telescope.
The house is situated between a wonderful lake that is home to some rare birds and wildlife and the beach which is a fantastic wildlife and beach combing location, as well as the kiteboarding you can do on such a flat open bay with no boat traffic to negate. We are pet friendly, but ask you to be a responsible pet owner. The home is fully fenced, but has many young plants to be conscious of. The restaurant up the road 'Goodies' and 'The Salty Squid' are dog friendly, so you can include your pets in your holiday here.
For whale, scuba, fishing and Fraser island enthusiasts, tours can be booked in Hervey Bay, which is only 20min away.
convenience stores are from 5 minutes away to major shopping complex 15 min.
Off-road cycling tracks are behind the lake near the community hall.
Wetland walking tracks are close by too.

Great getaway

Never been to toogoom before, was such a great place to experience. Loved the house so much, it had so much character and was really a lovely house for my family to stay at. Would definitely stay again. Perfect for kids, so much paddle boarding in the calm water. Didn’t have to travel so far to get to the water.

"The Nest"

We loved staying at the quaint little Queenslander which was only 300 metres from the beach. Even our furbaby had a great time. The house was clean, beautifully presented and had everything you would need. If you want to get away from the rat race then this would be the place to stay.

Great little beach getaway - quiet and peaceful

My husband and I took our dog away for a long weekend of beach time and relaxation, which is exactly what we got here. :) Only 2 blocks away from the beach, we were able to visit multiple times a day. The front porch was our favourite spot to enjoy the breeze with our pup after a day of sun. The interior of the house is simple and rustic, with everything you need for a comfortable short stay. There are plenty of places to visit locally and just a short drive away for some activities or food and drinks out, but the cooking facilities also made it easy to stay in. We had a great vacation and are already trying to find time in our schedule to come back for another long weekend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in "The Nest" a gorgeous renovated Queenslander! What a beautiful place to stay, so quiet and peaceful and only 3 minutes walk to the beautiful beach. Our 2 fur babies also had a wonderful time as this property was very pet friendly and clean with no carpet, fully fenced yard and balcony. Comfy bed, air conditioning and all the essentials provided made for a relaxing stay. The host was easy to deal with and provided fast responses to any questions we had. Toogoom is a hidden gem and we loved swimming and fishing in the calm bay at Fixter Park with the fur kids. We loved it here and will definitely be back again! Thank you.

Best little secret in Toogoom

My husband & I and our Scottish terrier Donald had the best stay. Check in easy, house immaculately clean. Everything you could possibly need is there even down to a complimentary bottle of Red. The yard is safe for your animal & easy walk to the beach. Great little café down the road. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again which is on the cards as our main visit to Hervey Bay was whale watching & unfortunately was cancelled at the last minute due to bad weather. Anyhoo gives us an excuse to visit here again. Thank you Sonya you definitely tick all the boxes. Karen Chris & Donald.

This property surpassed all of our expectations! It is the only restored home on the street amongst many more modern-looking houses. When we drove up and were looking for the address, I crossed my fingers and thought, "Let that house be ours..." and it was! Sonya has outdone herself. Susie, the neighbor/housekeeper, told us that Sonya is "very hands-on and did a lot of the restoration herself." If you like retro places with tons of charm, this is the place for you! I was worried about staying so far from Hervey Bay, but in all honesty, I wasn't that impressed with Hervey, and I was happy we stayed in Toogoon instead! The best part is the beach, which is a short 5-minute walk from the property. All I can say is, "OMG!" Never in my life have I seen a beach that compares to this one! It was spectacular. Even my photos don't do it justice. It stretched for miles in all directions, and there was hardly a soul to be seen but me. It isn't often a place is THIS perfect. Thanks for making your beautiful home available to us, Sonya. We hope to return one day soon.

We loved our time at The Nest with its unique thoughtful and artistic details inside and out. The house was full of charm. We enjoyed the outdoor deck, large bath, close proximity to the beach. The beach was stunning with the hugest tidal differences I’ve ever seen. The low tides did make it a little difficult for the boat though- my hubby needed to head up to Burrum for the boat ramp as Toogoom’s was too shallow; wasn’t a big deal as Burrum’s not far. Bedding and bath towels (along with bath mat, 2 hand towels and tea towel) were all provided. There were no beach towels. The neighbours we met were very friendly. We loved our 3 night stay.

Restful location

Wow, what a find! Fantastic house, quiet street (we could only hear the birds singing), and a stunning location! The nest is wonderful. The house was so inviting and relaxing, and was a joy to stay in. The kitchen is extremely well set-up for self catering, and the entire place is very clean and tidy. The gardens are gorgeous, and I just want to move in now! Sonya, our host was brilliant. A bottle of wine was left for us to wind down with, and there is a small pantry stocked with tea, coffee and sugar (and a few other essentials). There was also a good supply of essentials like toilet paper and cleaning products! The beach is just a short walk away, accessed via a couple of beautifully andscaped pathways. I am a passionate scuba diver and marine biology enthusiast. I have really enjoyed working on this house in the last 4 months during my weekends to give a tired old Queenslander from Ipswich an energising spruce up it so dearly deserved.
I have travelled the world and made use of others homes as an alternative to hotels, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the home away from home, particularly during the lengthy visits.
I love a wine out on the deck with the telescope aimed up to the heavens, as I love beach combing and wildlife watching in this neighbourhood.
Although I do enjoy the relaxed and out of reach position of The Nest, I can easily get to Hervey Bay for all the water sport, restuarants and shopping my heart desires, or get on my kite or bike and get my heart pumping just outside my street here in Toogoom.
I am part of the surf life saving club on the Gold Coast, where I can get on the jet ski and patrol the beautiful beaches when I am not in Hervey Bay. I also scuba and free dive around the world, which is my first love and passion.
As you can probably tell, I love animals and being close to the natural world.

Why they chose this property

Having worked hard to get to this point where I have found my retirement home, I still have some years of labour until I can move here, so I am going to share the house with others to help me along, and also get the chance to see how wonderful this place really is. I love it and hope you love it too.

What makes this property unique

Everything about Toogoom is unique and wonderful. All the people I have met here are friendly and helpful. The nature and wild life is respected and admired, and there's a real sense of community. The location is ideal for all interests, so I can't rave enough about it.
The house is a beautiful character filled Queenslander, like none in the neighbourhood, so you will see it sticks out like a sore thumb :)
The colour scheme is cool to suit the very warm summers here, but tranquil enough to assist in your vacation mode.
There is always a coastal breeze that the house gets due to it being slightly elevated and the wind direction is typically south easterly.
We have newly landscaped the gardens, and are working on establishing fruit trees, a river bed and outdoor lounging spaces. The winding paths will soon be flanked by trees and shrubs that will attract birds and wild life.
Inside the house, you'll find 3.2m high ceilings which are great for keeping the house airy and cool. The vj boards and rails give the house dimensional character, so too the fret work in the kitchen. The galley style laundry boasts a vintage wash area that leads to the bathroom and toilet. All the furniture and accessories have been chosen to accompany the styling of the home.
