About this property

2 Bedroom 2.5 Bath (sleeps 4) Historic home by Riverwalk & Parks (min.30 nights)

Nestled in a lush green Oak Hammock, across the street from the Manatee River, waterfront park and public pier (and on the edge of the historic downtown district), this deceptively spacious historic home has charm in abundance as well as the necessary modern conveniences. Built in the 1880-1890s, extensively remodelled in the 1920's, and completely remodelled again throughout 2014-16, guests describe the house as a "Home away from home".

Sleeps 4 (2 bedrooms) and 2 1/2 baths. Master bedroom with California King bed, and 2nd bedroom with a Queen bed. Fully remodelled and equipped kitchen: granite countertops, modern appliances including dishwasher. Kitchen leads to separate sitting area, dining area, and a laundry room and half bath. Main living room retains 1920's charm: chandeliers, original fireplace, doors and wood floors. Television, telephone, DVD player and WiFi with high speed internet are included. Front sun room has rustic coastal charm: original dutch siding showcases historic architecture; vaulted ceiling; plantation fan; cosy couch to sit, relax and enjoy views of the waterfront Mineral Spring Park and Manatee River.

The rear deck has furniture and a gas BBQ grill for outdoor cooking and dining. It overlooks the neighboring historic Mineral Spring Park. Many birds including owls, hawks, bald eagles, osprey, woodpeckers, egrets, herons and ibis have all been spotted in the yard and surrounding park.

The house is on a spacious double lot with a large driveway and ample space for several cars, an RV, or a boat trailer, if needed. Please note that a maximum of 3 vehicles are allowed on the property (please let us know when booking if you wish to bring a boat/trailer or RV).

There is lots to see and do in Bradenton, and we are well positioned between the gulf islands and Interstate 75 (for trips to the beach, island sunsets, and day trips to other nearby cities/destinations further afield).

The popular Bradenton Riverwalk starts at 14th St W in Downtown (Pier 22 restaurant & Twin Dolphin Marina) and is currently being extended east, all the way to 14th St E (the waterfront park opposite our house!). Once completed, you’ll be able to stroll/cycle along the Riverwalk and enjoy its amenities all the way to downtown.

There is a historic waterfront park next to and opposite the house, with access to a brand new public pier, boardwalk, and new section of the Riverwalk….right across the street from the house! There is an observation tower (ADA accessible) for great views over the Manatee River, and benches in the park and along the river where you can relax and take in the views. Walk, cycle, skate, sit, picnic, walk the dog, or borrow a book from the little free lending library….this is a much loved neighbourhood park. A children’s play park is also available a few minutes walk along the riverwalk.

The Manatee Historic Village and other historic houses are 2 blocks away. Local cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, Manatee Memorial hospital, theatre, museums, attractions including the planetarium, Riverwalk, Marina, and Historic Downtown with its Farmer’s Market, are all within 2 miles (a leisurely walk for the mobile or an easy cycle ride or short car ride away).

If you need ideas of places to visit, eat, and explore, check out the brochures and pamphlets available in the drawers of the TV cabinet! We also provide a selection of DVDs, games, jigsaw puzzles and books for rainy days, and some toddler & children’s books, puzzles and games too. Beach chairs are also available for your use when you want to head to the beach!

However you choose to spend your time here, we hope you have a wonderful stay.

Florida Vacation

Loved the house and neighborhood was close to everywhere we visited, close to the waterfront and relaxing, would have loved to have seen it before the developers moved in, but everything changes with time. Highly recommended.

Lovely beachy, cottage feel inside.

The cottage’s interior was roomy, clean, and well appointed with kitchen wares and bath amenities. The exterior was not as pleasant, unfortunately. If you’re ok with a old, unkempt neighborhood, then this is for you. It was quite handy to the Pittsburgh Pirates spring training ballpark and practice facilities. That’s what brought us to Bradenton

Cute house

While I wasn’t in town on vacation and spent most of my time away from property It would have been nice to know ahead of time that there is construction going on next door and across the street. I can say that the homeowner probably wasn’t aware of this. She also was very kind and very responsive with a couple questions I had. I would stay here again (once construction is completed).

Incredible overall experience

We can't say enough about our 2 months at this property. The only thing better than the amazing location just steps out the front door to the pristine riverwalk and the beautiful home was our host Tiffany. From the moment we booked and throughout our entire stay, Tiffany was responsive, welcoming, and gracious. She cheerfully helped us troubleshoot the few small things that arose and ensured we had as smooth a stay at her home as possible. We were impressed with the small touches - the ADT security system, the abundance of night lights, and the drawer full of fliers to accompany the recommendations in the guest book. The home itself is very well laid out. We used every space throughout the days, particularly enjoying the absolutely stocked to the brim kitchen. We enjoyed the beautiful view of the water from the front porch and spent many afternoons in the sun on the back deck. We highly recommend this property. You will not be disappointed.

Perfect Fit!

Property owner was easy to communicate with every time. Property has been recently maintained and freshened up. The elevated style of the house gives a beautiful view of the Manatee River from the front porch. The back deck is a great place to relax in the evening and watch the abundant wildlife come and go. We enjoyed 21st century amenities in a home over 100 years old! The construction and maintenance of a new city park was not a disturbance inside the home, as the sounds did not carry inside. The afternoon lightning storms were spectacular and the rains were cooling. We will recommend this location and hope to stay again.

Great house near everything.

This is great spacious renovated house with practically 4 private rooms (two bedrooms, but people can sleep in other 2 rooms as well) and 3 separate bathrooms (two full and one half bath). Great patio and yard area connected to a city park. These two features alone make this house a unique spot where a large family can experience great Florida/Sarasota vibe in a secluded location yet within minutes from shops, restaurants, parks, walks, beaches and more. For small children Coquina beach is the best because you don't have to walk on send from your car to the water for a few minutes, like in Siesta. Not the best feeling on a hot day under the burning sun. Tiffany is a great host, who made every effort to make our stay the best it can be. She was very prompt and detailed in communication, great and fast with issues resolution, and she provided premium vacation experience in the home away from home. House is stuffed with bedding, bathroom, kitchen and other useful items well beyond of what would normally expected. I rented many vacation rentals for many years and I give this host and property 5 stars in every category, except if you are a super clean person, be prepared to do some washing and cleaning upon arrival because things do get dusty overtime, and cleaners simply don’t have time to go over everything in a few hours. Thank you, Tiffany. I will be recommending your house to my friends and family.

Clean-well maintained-beatiful renovated home

Our group of 2 couples enjoyed our stay very much at the Blue Heron cottage. We enjoyed sitting in the backyard every morning relaxing and drinking our morning coffee together before heading out to see the sights. It is in an older neighborhood....many big trees covered in Spanish moss-just beautiful. It is located on a quiet street, which we also enjoyed. The house was comfortable and both bedrooms were beautifully furnished. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook your own meals, which we only did a couple of times because there are so many wonderful restaurant options in the area. One meal was fish we caught while fishing with, 5 o'clock Charlies, and we also found a sea food shop near O'Shucks (restaurant) and purchased shrimp and seafood for another meal. It was wonderful having a full functioning kitchen with a dinning room table! The price for this home was reasonable and the reservation process was easy. We loved coming home to a comfortable home each evening. There is a security system installed. Which, while it keeps you and your belongings safe....I wished that there were instructions on how to silence the alarm alerts "beep beep-front door opening" etc. while we were just hanging out at the house would have been nice. That is the only issue and it was not a deal breaker. We are thankful to the owners for sharing their beautiful home with us.

Best experience!

Tiffany has made my Bradenton Vrbo experience stress-free, relaxing, and memorable! My roommate and I are medical student interns that needed a place to stay in Bradenton, FL, for the summer. We already had a previous property ready for us 3 months in advanced and in the last minute, that property told us they weren’t available anymore. We were extremely stressed out and worried we wouldn’t have a place to stay. Luckily, we found the Blue Heron Hideaway and Tiffany. Let me tell you, Tiffany is the most kind, patient, empathetic, and generous host I have ever worked with. She responds with lightning speed to accommodate our every need even when she is in a different time zone. Not only was she super easy to work with, and great at communicating, her beautiful home made our stay very comfortable. It has everything you ever need for a long stay. The sunroom is perfect for lounging around and looking at scenic view, or if you need to study and work. The kitchen is fully stocked with almost every appliance and tool you need to bake, cook, or grill. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very clean and comfortable. The rooms also have a beautiful view of the brand new park that was built next door. I was also able to walk outside each morning and enjoy a cup of coffee with the phenomenal sunrise, beautiful trees, sounds of the manatee river, and even enjoy a book with the little free library. The back patio also has a nice view of the park and has a big table/chairs/umbrella for a barbecue with friends and family. We also worked with Mike who is the on-sight manager that helped out a ton for any little fixes that we needed during our three months. All in all, this place is perfect and I highly recommend it to anyone needing to stay in Bradenton. I definitely want to come back! 10/10

nice place be wary of added cleaning fees and accusations of destroying equipment

We enjoyed our stay, but were shocked when we did not receive the full deposit back. The poor customer service from the manager Andrew does not lend us to ever want a return visit nor would we recommend this place in the future. There are plenty of options to choose from in the area, plus a lot of construction going on in the city block. Might be more rental options soon. We were accused of destroying the grill tools, when actually my husband is an expert chef and brings his grilling tools when we travel. The actual truth was that the grill was filthy, and we cleaned it before we used it, and after we finished using the grill. The tools actually were damaged that were sitting on the grill -- burnt, slimy, and not clean. The back yard is very dark, and a friend from the area who was visiting was not able to see all the stairs and fell off the stairs, twisting his foot. Luckily my husband heard him call for help, he was unable to get up on his own because he is somewhat disabled. There was no railing on the five stairs, and when I mentioned it to the caretaker he said no one ever had that problem before. Tonight when we called the manager Andrew about the withholding of our full deposit, he informed us we damaged the grill tools and said we were charged the extra money (taken off the deposit) because we left the home needing extra cleaning. He said we had 6 people in the home, and the max was 5. Our son and his friend joined us for 4 of the six nights. We did not know adding family to our trip at the last minute would lead toward being charged extra cleaning fees. We ALWAYS treat the properties we stay in as it is our home, and left this property in excellent condition to the point of finishing all but a few pieces of laundry, swept and washed the kitchen floor, and wiped down the bathrooms. The home was in very good condition when we departed. There is a big dog appears to be a pit bull next door that barks often and strains the leash and appears aggressive. We were not comfortable being outdoors when the dog was on the leash. The neighborhood is so-so, a home two doors down had several cars with teens and young adults, not moving the cars when we were arriving back to the home. We watched on one occasion one of those persons sat on the top of the chimney on the second story of the house. Our son in law said once and my husband agrees "I feel a little uncomfortable with the dog and the neighbor's actions two doors down."

Lovely spot by the Manatee River

The owner was very responsive and quick to respond to emailed questions or problems (I had a few wasps). The house is a charming old house that has been updated to include every appliance. Since it is old, it has a few expected idiosyncrasies like the inability to open most of the windows..The kitchen has everything one could possibly need for cooking. The living room was comfortable and had a large screen TV which we enjoyed. I usually had one family member or one friend at a time, but the house could accommodate a large family with the pull-out couch. The owner graciously left an easel for me, and the area near the back porch was a great place to do art work. The washer and dryer were large and convenient to use.The only hitch we experienced was when I accidentally locked us out the first night, and the property manager was out of the country and unavailable. Fortunately the owner has a friend in the neighborhood who was able to help us. The owner was always available by phone or email.

Don't judge a book by it's cover

When we pulled into the driveway, the exterior of the cottage didn't appear to be in great shape, but once inside, we were so surprised how nice and updated it was. Granite counters, nice appliances and fully equiped kitchen. The park next door was the biggest draw for us, but unfortunately, the entire park was under construction with no access. The RiverWalk is nice and will be even nicer when connected to the park next to the cottage. The neighborhood around the cottage is a bit shady, but we learned where to walk, which we did every evening without worry. The homes along the river are nice to very gorgeous. If you are a walker, drive out to Robinson Preserve where there are lots of trails and water fowl. It was 5-stars. There are lots of restaurants within a few miles from the cottage. Wilder's pizza is great. We had a lovely lunch at both Mattison's located off the RiverWalk and Pier 22 at the Marina. Tiffany was wonderful to work with when we had a few issues. The output from a couple of the faucets was not the best. The showers were both great. Nice big dishwasher and washer and dryer. Everything worked fine so no complaints. We had a nice stay and when that park is ready, it will be exceptionally nice.

Perfect place to spend the summer!

The Blue Heron was exactly the place for us to stay while we waited for our new house to be completed. It is welcoming, spacious and had everything we needed. We enjoyed summer evenings on the back deck. Bradenton is a great city! So close to Anna Maria Island with its beautiful beaches made it the perfect spot. Coquina Beach was our favorite! Relaxing Stay at Blue Heron Hideaway

We had a fantastic experience staying at this property for about 5 weeks. It is a historic home with a lot of charm, but also all of the modern conveniences we require. It is extremely comfortable and the owners thought of and provided everything you could possibly need in a home! The surrounding open green space added to the tranquility and peacefulness, along with the nearby access to the Manatee river. Very relaxing and pleasant stay! We highly recommend it.

Sisters get away

Our first sisters getaway ever and I wanted to make it really special. In searching for a property, this one kept popping up. Wow! were the words once we checked in. Very beautiful! everything we needed for 4 ladies and more. We loved the deck, as that's where we had our coffee in the mornings. The kitchen is well stocked, we loved the newly updated bathrooms, and the fact there were 2.5, having the laundry room a very nice feature also. The property owner, Mr. Harrington was always quick to respond to any questions I had. Instructions were easy to follow. And yes, we would definitely stay again. Close to shopping, eateries, and beaches.

Very clean and well-equipped. Pleasant decor.

Lovely house but the location may not be convenient for some people. Downtown Bradenton is a 35 minute walk. Only a taqueria is within walking distance. We had trouble getting in the house as the instructions gave the wrong number for the lockbox. There was no answer at contact number provided , so we left a messsge and had to wait about an hour for someone to get back to us with the correct number. Once inside, we were very happy with the spacious rooms, modern kitchen and bathrooms. There was a beautiful sun porch that we didn't even use! The owners seem to take pride in their house. Bicycles would have been nice to explore the Bradenton Riverfront. And we would have used the BBQ if the fuel tank was full. There was a great security system that made us feel quite secure in this mixed neighborhood. Overall, we had a great time and we're able to visit many sights by car.

Host profile image
We fell in love with this area when we decided to get married on Anna Maria island some years ago. We used to rent on the island but decided to set up house in Bradenton, and save this old Florida gem from demolition. We completely remodelled it, over 3 years, whilst retaining as much of its early character and charm as possible. In the process we discovered Bradenton lives up to its name of the 'Friendly City'. We have a wonderful community of local businesses, eateries, and our lovely neighbourhood and neighbours.

Why they chose this property

We love being near the water, the great old oak trees in our yard and around our quiet neighbourhood, and our proximity to local historical sites, Downtown, the Riverwalk, the gulf island beaches and our great location between the cultural hubs of Tampa, St Petersburg and Sarasota.

Nearby....

There are several shops and restaurants/cafes/bars within 0.5 miles of the cottage and a much greater choice within 1.5 miles, which incorporates Downtown.

River/Boats: located just across the street from the Manatee River, close to Tarpon Pointe Marina and Caddy's at the Pointe. Braden River public boat ramp is located just a few minutes away at Manatee Avenue & 29th Street East. There is a multitude of Charter fishing guides in the area.

Beaches: There are several long stunning white sandy beaches are located in nearby Bradenton, Anna Maria Island & Longboat Key. The Sandbar, Beach House & Mar Vista restaurants are some of the best dining on the island beaches, especially if you love watching sunrise/sunsets. The Bradenton City Riverwalk can be accessed nearby (with it's skate park, volleyball, water park, playground, kids' splash zone, picnic area, outdoor stage, and more). Walk/cycle along the Riverwalk to Old Main Street, Pier 22 or Mattisons Restaurants.

Local and Historical: The house is located adjacent to the historic Mineral Springs Park. The Manatee Village Historical Park and Reflections of Manatee museum houses are within walking distance (1 or 2 blocks). It is a short drive to the South Florida Museum and Planetarium, DeSoto Memorial Park, Mote Aquarium, Mixon's Fruit Farm, Sarasota Jungle Gardens, and Robinson Preserve.

Sports: LECOM Park (was McKechnie Field) is a short drive away, as are IMG Academy and various golf courses in the area.

(There are many brochures, guides and maps in the cottage for your information, to help you make the most of your stay)

What makes this property unique

Next to the Mineral Spring Park, and opposite the Manatee River waterfront park with access to the public pier, riverwalk, and observation tower.
