Under the Oaks in Diever).
Perfect Family House!
The accommodations at Under the oaks were perfect for our family of 5. (though the house can fit a much larger group) David was most helpful in every way, from helping us with the bicycle rentals (he made sure we reserved them way in advance) to taking us on a small tour of the village and suggesting interesting places to visit in the area. David and his family live in half the house and the other half is the rental. We had a separate entrance, so it felt completely private. The village of Diever is great; the grocery store was a 45 second walk from the house, and lots of little stores and small restaurants within a 5 minute walk. We rented bicycles, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip! There are endless bicycle routes throughout the countryside, most of them are not next to the road like we are used to, but far away from the roads, cutting through the landscape of farmland. So very serene! Everywhere flat as a pancake, super easy bicycling. Diever is very close to several national parks and there are beautiful places all around. Do not hesitate renting from David and spending your vacation in Diever!
Thank you for your kind review - great to hear that you enjoyed your stay so much! We really enjoyed hosting you all here in Diever and hope to see you again when you are ever in the NL!
Outstanding accommodation with a very warm welcome
This is our 10th year staying 'Under the Oaks' and each year we have had a great welcome from hosts David and Monique...nothing is ever too much trouble and the house is always maintained to the highest standard - very clean and well equipped. We are a large family group with ages that have ranged from babies to pensioners and we are still discovering things to do that we can all enjoy together.Diever is a lively small town (in a national park) with all the bars, restaurants and shops you need. There is even a windmill! There is a Coop supermarket just along from the house and a bike rental shop - great for exploring the area on the fabulous cycle routes all around the area. (David can organise cycle hire for you). This year we discovered the 'Blue lake' ...a fresh water lake with sandy shores hidden in the forest...amazing to swim in on a warm day... just 10 minutes drive away along the lovely canal-hugging road. We recommend Plopsa and Slagharen theme parks for the young at heart!
Your 10th visit here - the kids were babies when you first visited and now they are almost teenagers! It gives us great pleasure to welcome you back every year and to see you all enjoying yourselves here at the farmhouse and discovering even more of the wonderful attractions here. See you in 2019!

About David & Monique Samson
Greetings from Diever! We are David and Monique Samson. In 2004 we decided to relocate our family to peaceful rural Drenthe, one of the most beautiful parts of the Netherlands. David has twenty-five years experience in tourism, having worked for several major airlines, tour operators and business travel agencies. We have advertised our holiday farmhouse rental property with Owners Direct continuously since February 2005. Secure credit card payments accepted via the Owners Direct online payment system.
David & Monique Samson purchased this Farmhouse in 2004
Why David & Monique Samson chose Diever
In 2004, here in the small Drenthe village of Diever, we found the perfect location for a holiday farmhouse. The property was originally the site of a very popular B&B, which operated from 1972 until 2004 (at which point the previous owners decided that it was time to retire!) We have discovered the most idyllic spot in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Being situated between two National Parks (including the largest area of wet heathland in continental Europe, at 'Dwingelderveld'), this allows for many recreational activities. Yet, close proximity to the motorway network makes for easy day trips to other parts of the Netherlands and the German border, which is less than an hour away. If we can provide you with any local knowledge to make sure that you have the perfect holiday then please contact us.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Centrally located in Diever village. Within walking distance of a good-sized supermarket, an award-winning bakery, ice-cream parlour, 6 restaurants, chemist, newsagents, many souvenir shops, a bike rental shop and an archaeological museum. We are just a short walk/bike ride away from the nearby 'Drents-Friese' forest. The farmhouse, situated adjacent to fields and a bicycle path running alongside, can comfortably accommodate up to 6 adults. Smaller groups are most welcome (see our discounts of up to 20% under 'Rates'). You will be amazed by the many attractions in the area. The outstanding natural beauty of Drenthe is here for all to enjoy - not forgetting the forests, lakes, dunes, hiking & riding trails, parks for the kids, the many museums & places of historic interest, as well as the ease of reaching the surrounding towns and cities.
