Map
Nestled between Rome, Tuscany, Umbria and the Mediterranean Coast, Casa Renata in Soriano is situated within a prime location to explore this relatively undiscovered corner of Italy, the stunningly beautiful region of Tuscia, in northern Lazio. Less than an hours’ drive north of Rome, 15 minutes from the historic papal city of Viterbo and 90 minutes south of Florence.
Soriano nel Cimino: Standing at the foot of central Italy’s Cimini Mountains, the pretty hill top town of Soriano offers a great variety of local amenities; banks, petrol stations, excellent restaurants and bars, all within a 3 minute drive from the villa. The local supermarket is a minutes' drive away. When staying in Soriano guests can truly discover authentic Italian small town life at its best.
Only a few minutes out of town and standing 1,150 metres behind Soriano is the vast wooded Nature Reserve of Lake Vico. Winding roads with spectacular views take you to the ideal place to escape the summer heat, for a swim in lake Vico, seasonal walks and picnics in the woods of La Faggeta or to the excellent restaurant/gelateria located at the entrance to the wood.
Viterbo: Northern Lazio's principle town of Viterbo (15 minute drive) is one of Europe’s best preserved and most beautiful walled medieval cities. Once the seat of the Papacy, the 13th Century architecture of Viterbo’s Papal Palace remains the symbol of the town to this day. The charming medieval quarter of San Pellegrino, the oldest part of Viterbo, is a series of pretty winding streets, inner courtyards and small piazzas dotted with antique shops, artist studios, restaurants and bars. Viterbo also offers a great selection of designer shops together with its handy larger hypermarkets on the outskirts of town. An area famed for its hot sulphur springs, Viterbo houses the famous health spa, Le Terme dei Papi, for those after a little pampering.
Recommended city day trips; Rome:70km Viterbo:12km Florence:160km Orvieto:40km Spoleto:70km Perugia:100km Assisi:60km.
NB Although we do recommend the use of a car when staying here, especially for exploring smaller towns and villages, many of our neighbouring cities are best accessed by rail. The train station at Orte (15min drive) is a rail hub to all major destinations throughout Italy, for example Rome's central Termini Station takes just over 1/2 an hr.
Lazio's Lakes: Our superb lakes provide excellent beaches to suit all tastes. Lake Vico's peaceful location high up in the woods creates the perfect setting for lazy days on secluded volcanic sandy beaches. A small selection of good cafes and restaurants plus water sports are available. Plenty of picnic areas with BBQs are dotted around the wooded shoreline.
The stunning crystal clear waters of the larger Lake Bolsena (30 minute drive), provide a number of great stretches of beach ideal for families and water sports enthusiasts. A large variety of good bars and restaurants line the shorelines of the medieval towns of Capodimonte & Bolsena.
Lakes; Vico(15km), Bolsena(35km) and Bracciano(40km).
Medieval Villages & Towns: There are an abundance of picturesque medieval towns to explore in our area, a few not to be missed include; Caprarola home to the stunning Palazzo Farnese and Bagnaia famed for Villa Lante and its grand gardens. For it's beauty and unique setting, The Dying City of Bagnoregio is also a must see. As is Bomarzo's Park of Monsters.
Recommended village day trips; Caprarola:15km Bagnaia:6km Bomarzo:10km Montefiascone:20km Bolsena:45km Tuscania:40km Civita di Bagnoregio:15km. Calcata:40km
The Coastline: Lazio's stunning coastline is within an hrs drive from Apartment Oleandri, offering sandy stretches of beach to rugged bays. The nearest beach is at Tarquinia Lido, a 40 min drive. Slightly in land is the Etruscan town of Tarquinia, famed for its archaeological sites and relics. The Tuscan coastal towns of Porto Ercole, Porto S. Stefano and the islands of Giglio and Elba are also reached in over an hrs drive.
Recommened beaches; Tarquinia:40km Santa Marinella:60km Montalto:50km Talamone:70km.
Local Swimming Pools: There are two pools close to the property; The sulphuric Terme di Orte (15 min drive), a large open air complex with restaurant and bar ideal for families & La Molinella, a smaller complex in Soriano itself. Aquafelix at Civitavecchia is the largest waterpark in the area.
Local Events: Each town and village celebrate their own unique festivals throughout the year, mixing Catholic heritage, ancient customs, music & culinary traditions; e.g.Montefiascone's Wine Festival on 1st-15th Aug and Viterbo's impressive Macchina di S. Rosa on the 3rd September. Soriano's most famous Chestnut Festival is celebrated throughout the 1st two weeks of October, bringing visitors from far and wide. Enjoy medieval parades & fan-fare while joining in the wonderful celebrations held in the local tavernas.

Ask a questionAbout Daniela
Ciao a tutti! My name is Daniela and I am lucky to have been coming to Soriano nel Cimino and the surrounding area of la Tuscia my whole life. We are an Anglo-Italian family based in Sussex, England. We have long family ties with this beautiful town through my father, where we continue to spend our holidays with family and friends. Our two properties advertised on here, Villa Casa Renata and Apartment Oleandri are both used as homes away from home, and so ideally fully equipped with all you could need for a long or short stay. We hope you enjoy this place as much as we do.
Daniela purchased this villa in 1980
Why Daniela chose Soriano nel Cimino
Casa Renata offers the best of both worlds, a relaxed country home, just minutes from lively village life. The house was built in 1990, where once stood an old farmhouse. The land was bought especially due to its prime location to Soriano and its surrounding beauty. We have a number of fruit trees; olive, cherry, fig, peach, lemon, hazelnut, which our guests are more than welcome to help themselves to. We also provide our guests, with a taster of our very own extra virgin olive oil within our welcome pack, which is full of local goodies, ideal to use as a dressing. It is all about the food for us, so whether you choose to stay at home and cook for yourselves, in the well equipped family kitchen and BBQ or eat out in Soriano’s superb restaurants, the villa is an ideal base for you.
What makes this villa unique
This area of Italy, known as La Tuscia, is one of the country’s hidden gems. Although Italians have been visiting this area for years, few non-Italians have discovered this diverse region of northern Lazio and its many festivals. We love to spend warm Spring and Summer days lounging by the lake, Lake Vico for a more peaceful and relaxed vibe or Lake Bolsena with its many bars, restaurants and water sports. And after all these years we still love to visit and explore this area’s array of medieval towns, I recommend the unique town of Civita di Bagnoregio as a must see. Back in Soriano you can live like a local and immerse yourself into an authentic Italian community. With our local knowledge of the area we are more than happy to recommend places to visit, restaurants etc and shopping tips.
