About John Roberts
Myself and my wife Jules moved to Italy in May 2003. Our daughter Keelin was born in Como in May 2005 and she claims to be Italian.. We had our heart set on lake views and were fortunate to find the perfect villa for us. Stunning views and a short walk to the wonderfully quaint but lively village. We moved to Italy for professional reasons. I took up employment in Lugano, Switzerland. Thankfully I got a frontaliere visa and we availed of the best of both worlds, Swiss work and Italian living. We adore Argegno and it's environs. It has a vibrant village and also there is lots to explore in Val D'Intelvi. I bought two apartments in Argegno in 2008 and we're hoping to spend lots more time there. However mortgages mean that we need to dream for the moment.

Why John Roberts chose Argegno
Two words - vista and location. Amazing location, with a swimming pool and only two minute walk to the village. Lake Como and Argegno are relatively well hidden jewels. They are in central Europe, yet in a quiet and beautiful location with so many things to do.

Overall a very nice stay!
We recently returned from a lovely week in apartment #7 (August 2017). I recommend the apartment and town to anyone considering a laid back summer week in Lake Como!
The photos, descriptions and reviews are all very accurate. Communication with John was great - he very quick to reply to any questions. The views are stunning! The apartment is a great value!
A few extra comments:
There were six of us (three adults, three children). The electric air mattress fits in the room with the two twin beds. The air mattress worked fine for our two children (4 and 8), but probably not ideal for adults.
We earned a dip in the pool after the steep stairs and hill from the village to the apartment! The hill was not a problem for our 4 year old, but as noted in another review, it could be a challenge to others less able.
The pool was a big hit with the kids. It was a bit chilly when I first got in, but then I got used to it. You share it with the other apartments, which works just fine.
Argegno is a small town, which suited us well. The tiny market is tiny; we went to Lenno for more substantial grocery shopping. The gelato is excellent! The restaurants were all enjoyable (for dining in and take-away). We did not have a car. It is connected with the bus, ferry and high speed boat ferry. Boats and buses are not that frequent, but if you plan ahead it works just fine (although one day we had to hitch a ride back from Lenno as no buses came by). The only drawback to the town is that the main road runs right through it. We visited the mid-lake towns (Bellaggio, Verrana, Menaggio), Como and even went to Milan for the day.
Overall a very nice stay!
thanks so much... Hope to see you again!
Great location and excellent value for money
The Apartment was in a great location and our family thoroughly enjoyed their stay.
The write up on Owners Direct was very accurate, and lots of useful local information was provided.
We would definitely book again.
thx so much guys! Hope to see you again!
The village of Argegno has it's own private 'lido' or beach area (2 minutes walk from the apartment) where you can rent sun loungers and umbrella shades for very little. This means you can enjoy the lake and /or the private pool area of the apartment.
Milan Airport Malpensa 40 mins. Milan Airport Linate 1 hour. Milan Airport Bergamo 1 hour 20 mins. All airports have rail links to Milan. Trains run frequently to Como town from Milan with regular bus service to Argegno. Car hire recommended as there is so much to see.
The apartment is a 2 minute walk from the vibrant village (rated the best village on lake Como!) of Argegno and about 15 minutes by bus or boat from the city of Como. There are many rustic lake villages (like Bellagio, Menaggio) which are very short distances by boat, bus or car from Argegno. Argegno is a 35 minute drive from the famous designer outlet mall called Foxtown just across the border in Switzerland.
The village of Argegno has many excellent restaurants to choose from, making sure you can eat at different restaurants almost every night of the week. This being Italy, it is very difficult to be disappointed by the culinary quality. There are at least 2 very trendy and friendly pubs for a pre or post dinner drink/s. There are 2 banks (with ATM machines), one small supermarket/shop, an authentic Italian ice cream shop, a bakery where one can enjoy freshly baked bread, croissants every day, butcher, fruit shop, hairdresser, wellness centre and tabacci (to purchase cigarettes). Visit Villa Carlotta and see it's beautiful gardens in many styles. Villa Serbollini in Bellagio with unrivaled panoramic views is a fantastic day out. Bellagio itself is a perennial favourite for holiday makers with it's cobbled streets and unbeatable views. Do not miss Villa Balbianello in Lenno as featured in the 007 James Bond Casino Royale movie. Walk to the villa or take the private boat (5 euros) from Lenno lido (15 minutes by car from the apartment) with golden sandy man made beach. The villa and it's majestic gardens overlook the deep waters of the lake. Drive down to Cernobbio (15 minutes south of the villa) for an idyllic lakeside walk. Menaggio, with it's palm lined promenade is another pretty lake village worth exploring. Many boat activities from windsurfing to sailing are available on the lake as well as other water sports. Mountain bikes are also available for hire if you wish to venture into the vast mountains that surround the lake. Sant Anna and La Griglia nearby serve superb seasonal and regional cuisine with excellent wine lists and are just a 5 minute drive from the apartment. Argegno village is full of excellent restaurants from fresh lake fish (Emilio's), pizza (La Corte), Barchetta-typical local cuisine and upmarket dining at La Piazetta.
