About Susan Salam
We live in Newcastle with our two kids and two cats. Our first ever holiday together in the 80's took us to Rhodes and we have loved it ever since. Now we are delighted to have our own fabulous villa there. The pressures of work and school holidays mean we only get there twice a year, but, while we are there we often take in an overnight in one of Rhodes old town's charming back street hotels.
Susan Salam purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Susan Salam chose South Rhodes
We bought the villa because it is the best location for miles around. It sits up on the hill side with a fine view of the bay that is uninterrupted and has sunshine on the pool all day. It enjoys a lovely climate, even into late October, when the sea is still warm for swimming. Gennadi is a friendly, traditional Greek village and the area is not over developed, so you won't be rubbing shoulders with too many tourists. The beach is vast and largely empty, but has good facilities and at various spots such as Kiotari and Gennadi itself. The beach tavernas all serve excellent grilled food and cheap beer.
What makes this Villa unique
I like to get up in the morning and have coffee by the pool while watching the sun rise over the bay. In the evening there is a lovely "golden hour" when the sun sets behind the hills, and at night there is a stunning view of the heavens and the milky way - I have never seen so many stars! Being half a kilometre from the main road, it is very quiet, and you will only be interrupted by the local goats wandering past. It is a lovely place for a family to relax and get away from it all, but there's plenty of facilities in the village and close by if you need anything. If you like water sports, Gennadi is probably the best place to stay to access Prassonissi beach.

Fantastic villa on a hillside with an amazing panoramic view of the sea and mountains. Already looking forward to returning in September ☀️☀️
A lovely property with stunning views. The birdsong is just amazing. We'll be back..
Beautiful sea views and comfortable villa.
Lovely villa with a fabulous view. 25 mins walk to the nearest town Gennadi that has everything you need including the best bakery we have ever seen! Easy access to local towns and beaches and a great pool that is the same depth throughout, perfect for the family.
Many thanks Neil & Caroline. We would welcome you back anytime. Susan x

I’m so glad you had a great time and would welcome you back any time.
Just about perfect.
My wife and I travel abroad about three times a year. The reason I mention this is to provide some context as our stay at villa Artemis was one of our most enjoyable holidays. My wife had a special birthday and we couldn't have chosen a better setting to mark it. The villa is a bit secluded about one mile from a lovely little traditional Greek village called Gennadi and the views were specatacular. The village had everything we needed in terms of supplies to stock the villa and a few bars/restaurants for lunch/evening meals. There were also a couple of travernas at the beach which again is about one mile from the villa. It was lovely to sit here at lunch time just looking at the views. As my wife wasn't driving she enjoyed the local wine and Rhodes made Rhosecco. To be honest the villa was quite secluded and we really enjoyed the peace and tranquility this provided so consequently we made the most of it and spent a good deal of time there, including cooking most evening meals which were easily prepared in the kitchen. We did hire a car and covered most of the island and the main sightseeing attractions. We fell in love with Rhodes and truly had a memorable holiday. However the highlight for us was enjoying the facilities at the villa and chilling out by the pool. While my wife loved being able to sunbathe, I enjoyed my cold beer just looking at all the wonderful views and in the shade of the veranda area. In terms of equipment, again we were well catered for. As it was just the two of us we had the villa to ourselves and it felt like a spoiling. There are four villas in this immediate area, two semi-detached buildings with roughly the same layout but we were very happy we chose this one. None of the other villas were occupied while we were there, but because of the hedging and the position of each villa I can't imagine your privacy being invaded if all were occupied. Susan the owner responded to any enquires promptly. Both Alan and Judith who manage the villa locally were also really helpful and were especially kind to my wife because of her birthday. That was very much appreciated. All in all we had a wonderful holiday at Villa Artemis.
Thank you Kuldip for your very kind review. We try very hard to make sure our guests are comfortable and have a wonderful stay.
I'm glad you loved Rhodes and the villa as much as we do and hopefully we may see you again someday.
The blue flag beach at Gennadi has several km of open, crowd free shingle and pebbles as well as warm water. It is two minutes drive from the villa. There are several good tavernas and sun loungers are available. 20 minutes drive away is the water sports paradise of Prassonissi Beach, which is popular with wind and kite surfers. 4km away at Kiotari there are lovely sandy beaches with glass bottomed boat rides and other beach facilities including some great chill out bars.
Rhodes, Diagoras Airport is the island's airport and is about 60Km away, roughly an hour's drive. It is possible to hire a taxi at the airport to get to Gennadi and this costs around 70 euros. Buses are also available. But we would recommend hiring a car to allow flexibility in getting around to see the local attractions.
Gennadi village is about two minutes by car, or about 20-25 minutes walk. Beautiful Lindos with its acropolis and medieval castle is 25km and Rhodes old town world heritage site is about 65km. Nearby are the traditional villages of Vati, Lahania, Lardos and Pefkos.
About 20 minutes drive away is the renowned water sports beach of Prassonissi, which has excellent wind surfing and kite surfing due to the prevailing breezes. In Gennadi itself there are numerous bars, tavernas, shops, a cash point, pharmacy, bus stop and internet cafes, in fact pretty much everything you need is here. The local bakery provides fresh bread and delicious cakes daily, while the green grocer sells wonderful fresh salad, fruit and vegetables. There is also an excellent small supermarket and a quaint village church, St. John Theologos. On the beach there are several tavernas offering a good selection of local and international dishes, or you can just pop in for a quick coffee or a beer. The village itself has several good eateries including Big Mamas kitchen, which is very friendly and serves excellent food. Further afield on the West coast, the castle at Monolithos is perched on a rock over some steep cliffs, is atmospheric and well worth a visit. The drive up the Western coast is lovely and you can also visit the ruined castle at Kastello near Kritinia. And no visit to Rhodes would be complete without a visit to Rhodes old town. The cobbled medieval streets contain many artisan shops, cafes, mosques, minarets, museums and tavernas hidden in its maze of back streets, just behind the main tourist strip.
