It was great! The kids loved the amount of space they had to run and go swimming. It’s the perfect place to get away and enjoy time with family and friends.
Enough good can't be said about this lovely home in the woods and our hosts (Laurel and Dan). The house itself blends in beautifully with the surrounding wilderness. It has an amazing kitchen window that looks out of the flowing river.
There is plenty of trails, biking and places to explore.
We had a great time getting away from our normal day to day, getting to relax and enjoy time with our family of four. The beds were very comfortable, kitchen was well stocked, and they provided some fun games and movies to watch too. The river is small and shallow, with clear, cool water. Our boys had a blast swimming and playing in it! We checked out some waterfalls that are very close by too, so beautiful.
The property is wonderful. The setting next to the trout stream is great (you can see the stream from the porch, kitchen, and living area). The interior of the cabin is beautiful and had many deer and trout mounts. The cabin was very clean, plenty of towels, and had the best stocked kitchen of any VRBO residence in which we have stayed. Towns with restaurants and supplies are close by. A great place to stay in northern Wisconsin.
If I was building a cabin, this is how I'd like it to be. Meticulously hand built from used materials seemingly right out of the earth of the local area, not just a construction job. Beautiful wood everywhere from floor to ceiling. Made us feel like we really escaped. We spent many hours sitting by the fire with the river gently flowing next to us. Extraordinarily peaceful.
Everything in good working order. Bring a fold out table for eating and organizing if you're more than 5; and camping chairs. Beautiful lakes, rivers and waterfalls almost within walking distance. Take advantage of this Northwoods treasure!!
The location and cabin were beautiful in so many ways. Off the beaten path but easy to find. Perfectly situated to enjoy kayaking, hiking, waterfalls and wildlife. Our kids enjoyed their camp-like accommodations in the bunk house. We loved it.
Peace and quiet surrounded by the North Woods in all its splendor. A perfect spot to zone out the noise. Enjoyed the trout streams, hiking the various waterfall trails, and campfires among the starlit skies.
We arrived in the UP and North Woods on what had to be the hottest day there in quite some time (I think it was 98 degrees(!)). Nevertheless, this property oozed refreshment and rest as soon as we entered. Open windows and fans did the trick and all was well.
The river is indeed just outside the doors and visible from the kitchen. My husband, who had been yearning to fish for years, was...pretty happy, to put it mildly. Check-in was smooth and easy as could be. The kitchen was very clean and well-stocked with pots, pans, glassware, and spices (previous guests had also left a lot of leftover canned or nonperishable foods, so I would recommend checking to see what's there before heading to the store). The bed and couches were also very comfortable, and we enjoyed using the DVD player - once we found it. :) The weather cooled off significantly and wonderfully just 12 hours after we arrived and we very much enjoyed using the woodburning fireplace - a real treat in July!
The only possible requests we would have is to ensure more updated information is in the binder. We were flummoxed for a bit about the thermostat, though that was resolved pretty quickly. Cell service is spotty -- text messages I sent weren't received by the other party for 12-24 hours, but again, that is to be expected. (Lack of wifi was a welcome respite!) The sound system didn't seem to be set up to work at all, and the DVD projector had been moved -- it was in the living room next to the desk with the binder. These, however, are small things. We were grateful to the owners and loved our time in this cabin. We can't wait to return!
Had an awesome stay with lots of adventure and nature. Lots of outdoor activities; Lily Lake beach, 12 falls, hiking, white water rafting, fly fishing and so much more! The caning is beautiful! Pics in listing don’t do it justice. You can tell it is loved and cared for.
Fantastic experience! The pictures of this property do not do it justice. The peaceful setting is perfect for relaxing. The kids loved playing in the stream and enjoyed the "camp like" bunk beds in the sleeping loft. The projector screen was great for winding the kids down in the evening. Also, the washer and dryer came in handy for the many wet clothes and towels as a result of playing in the stream multiple times a day. This cabin was also very well stocked with items you may have forgotten. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend this property. You will not be disappointed.
If you would like to get away from everyone, this is it.
Very nice place to stay. If you need to stay connected to family and friends, this is not for you. Love leaving everything behind and spend a week without interruption from work, friends or family. No TV, internet and limited cell phone usage just the way vacations should be.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this comfortable, secluded cabin in Dunbar. It was perfect for the two of us and our dog. We were very happy to see it was everything as described and much more. The workmanship was nothing short of impressive with lots of nice touches throughout. We toured and hiked many waterfalls in the area and had a wonderful time. We would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful 'old' cabin. The buildings look old, but once inside you are pleasantly surprised by all the comfort features of modern construction. The weather was terrible during our stay, but we loved our time relaxing and catching up as old friends. Would definitely stay here again!
Our stay was great, the cabin was very cozy. We loved all the board games, movie projector, and firepit. The only complaint I would have is that the second bunk area isn't exactly a comfortable place to stay for adults. The electricity did go out for about 3 hours on our second night but it was already late in the evening so we just had an early night. Overall, we had a blast and would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this sweet, cozy cabin in the Northwoods of WI. Daniel and Laurel really have a gem. The property was beautiful and the location was great for our family looking to hike and see some beautiful waterfalls.
A very cool and clean cabin with a great porch right on the river. Many close waterfalls, hiking trails, and snowshoeing. Felt like home. We will definitely come back to this gem. Owners are super responsive.
Excellent winter get away, very peaceful and relaxing!!
Wonderful location, house was amazing, great exacpe from the daily race!! Can't wait to go back in summer to fish river!!

About the host
Hosted by Dan & Laurel Simons
Hi! We are the Simons. We love anything outdoors and cherish our time on the river. We live in Green Bay. In 2012 we built our cabin and then our wood shop/loft in 2013.
Why they chose this property
The N Branch of the Pike River has always been a favorite trout stream in Wisconsin to fish. In his book, Wisconsin Spring Steams, Jay Ford Thurston lists the N Branch of the Pike at #8 on his list of the top 100 trout waters in Wisconsin. For nature lovers, this is a haven to regroup in with no interruptions of our busy world. Sitting on the porch which is a stone's throw away from the river is heavenly. Varieties of birds and ducks, aquatic animals, deer, and bear are wildlife that you will possibly get a glimpse of. The chorus of frogs will serenade your evening.
What makes this property unique
This has truely been a labor of love. Our open concept post and beam cabin is constructed with hand hewn beams from the 1800's. We have fallen in love with the charm of vintage lumber and have begun to build barnwood furniture in our wood shop.
