The cottage is updated and cozy. Everything was clean and hosts are warm and inviting. I would definitely stay again the cottage was quiet, great sunsets, a large, fenced backyard for dog to run and the sweet treats they made were amazing.

Thank you so much for the gift, we have it on display in the cottage for future guests to enjoy. We look forward to having you all stay with us again.
We stayed about a month waiting for our house to be finished. The owners are lovely people who could not have been nicer or more hospitable. The property was exactly what we wanted and needed for us and our two dogs. Lots of fenced in space for the dogs and a quiet country setting. Very relaxing. You’ll have your own heated indoor pool steps away from your front door. A short drive to whatever you need.

Quiet and peaceful.
My dog and I had a great stay at Fox Grove. Rod and Cheryl are wonderful hosts. The house has everything you could want. It's out in the country and I really enjoyed hearing owls, coyotes, goats, and the donkey. The goats are great entertainment. Two thumbs up!!!

Peaceful delight
Wonderful welcome by hosts with goodies basket. Very quiet hosts non intrusive. Cottage has all you could need for a stay with so many extras to enhance your holiday. The only issue we had was the indoor pool which we used a few times but there was an odour which we could not identify the source.
However that didn't detract from the amazing stay we had and we would happily visit again and recommend it.

Thank you for the lovely review! We just wanted to respond to your comment about the strange odor- we noticed it too and found out that because of the uncommon drought conditions, our well was running dry and when that happens, it produces a strong smell. Because we had just filled the pool, the well water water odor got into the pool. Luckily, we are starting to get rain here and won't have those issues anymore.
PS, your love of fossiling is contagious, we took our grandson out and found fossils too!!
We stay at VRBOs a lot. This was the first time we had a bad experience. There was no mention of them living right outside our door. They were very nice people however I don’t want to vacation with them! I messaged them ahead of time and explained that we have two dogs who live on 28 acres and asked if I could let them out the door in the morning and allow them to run around. They are outdoor dogs. She assured me that would be fine. The first morning I let them out and while I was headed to pee she was out there yelling at them and then knocked on my door and called my cell phone! That was not how I wanted to start my day. She told me they were barking at the raccoons the night before and disturbing the pet fox that was caged right outside our front door. There was no mention of either in the description or when I messaged her prior to making the reservation. One reason we chose this location was because of the personal chef listed. That chef was the owner and said she was not available. Seriously? I was counting on that for the week to give myself a break from cooking.

I would not rent to this guest again.
The guest violated our terms by failing to register their dogs through VRBO and neglecting to pay the required pet fee. As it was the holidays, we chose not to address this at the time. Unfortunately, the guest allowed their dogs to roam outside the designated fenced area, disrupting the wildlife and domestic animals on our property, including our fox, dog, cats, and other wildlife.
The guest’s assertion that we “live there” is misleading. Our property spans five acres, and while we reside in the main house, the cottage rented to guests is separate. The proximity allows us to promptly address guest needs while maintaining privacy for both parties.
We have clear pet policies, including a requirement that dogs remain on-leash and are not allowed to roam freely, particularly near our residence. To accommodate pets, we provide a 2.5-acre fenced area directly connected to the cottage where dogs can run safely. Despite this, the guest refused to use it.
Despite several polite reminders to control their dogs, the guest repeatedly stated that they allow their dogs to roam freely at home and expressed frustration about having to close the gate after letting their dogs out. Their actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for our house rules and the wellbeing of the wildlife and animals on our property.
When the guests departed, we found blood on the sheets and comforter, and the home was left in a state of disarray with dirty dishes, trash, and other messes throughout. Additionally, we had to replace the washer and dryer after their stay. While the cause of the damage is unclear, we are not pursuing damages at this time.
We welcome all guests with respect and strive to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience. In return, we expect the same respect for our property, rules, and wildlife. Unfortunately, that was not the case with this guest.
This is, literarily, absolutely most relaxing place I’ve ever stayed. To quantify that, we’ve used VRBO since 2014, multiple times each year. My husband and I just loved being there.Cheryl was a dream hostess. Without planning, our daughter, her dog & her fiancé ended up staying the whole week. Cheryl was fabulous & said no worries. When we came in, there was a lovely welcome basket waiting for us that had a plethora of goodies. There were also many things in the bathroom that we might have forgotten such as toothpaste, shower gel, etc. I’ve never encountered that at any other VRBO. This cottage is absolutely stunning. The kitchen is updated, but no dishwasher. There are 2 bedrooms, both a good size. There are only 1.5 bathrooms, but even with the 4 of us it worked out just fine. Both have been updated. It has a fabulous washer dryer combo, and absolutely GORGEOUS floors. The table seats 4, but there are a couple of barstools you can pull up if need be. There’s an enclosed pool, which I really enjoyed. My two grandbabies came to have an overnight visit & I surprised them with glow in the dark sticks, tossed them in the pool, & turned off the lights. They didn't want to leave. My favorite part was sitting on the back porch, watching the beauty that surrounded me. It is indescribable. Cheri, thank you for sharing your little bit of heaven with us. My only recommendation is to get a curtain to block off the master bedroom. Privacy is a must. ;-)
This cute house has the advantage of being close to the owners while still being privately located. Rod and Cheryl’s attention to detail is evident in the way the house is maintained and stocked with everyday needs. There is also an indoor pool in a separate building just steps from the house. We had quite a pleasant stay, enjoying the goats in the former orange orchard located in back of the house and bike rides and walks. Punta Gorda is about 20 minutes away. If you’re looking for a peaceful, country setting, Rod and. Cheryl’s cottage is a great choice. We hope to return someday.

The Scott’s
It was a very nice cottage with a very quiet atmosphere. They have a few goats 10-12that are fun to watch and also a fox. There is a charming 9 hole golf course just a short distance from the homestead. And a very good coffee & sandwich shop about a mile away.
Our only disappointment was it’s not a true two bedroom. There’s no separation doors between the two rooms. It would be fine for a couple with kids but not so great for two couples.
For us it worked out great.

Thank you for the review! We would like to clarify that Fox Grove does offer privacy options for the 2nd bedroom if requested but that closing that space off is not normally ideal for the flow of the cottage and our guests.

Clean, comfortable, quiet and secluded
This secluded picturesque cottage was perfect for 2 adults escaping the northeast wintry snow. The cottage is equipped with a lot of ammenities. The open spaced concept of the full kitchen, dining area and living room is bright and roomy. We appreciated the central AC/heat. We set the temperature once and never needed to adjust it again.
We enjoyed breathtaking views of the sunsetting while sitting on the back covered porch. Watched goats nibble on the leaves of orange trees in the morning.
The owners are right on the site, very friendly, accommodating and not at all invasive. This is a gem to check out!

My Fox Grove Life!
This was my 2nd year at Rod and Cherie's cottage, Fox Grove. I came here to experience the
Florida lifestyle, and be rejuvenated. My days weren't filled with lots of trips to the beach this year, I just really enjoyed the quiet mornings, the wonderful breezes and the gorgeous sunsets behind the orange grove. Cherie and Rod raise 9 goats. Some pygmy, and some full size. They are really fun to watch and see the interactions and pecking order of the group. It's so easy to come in the door of the cottage and feel at home right away. They have the kitchen well supplied with all the basic items needed. Whenever I needed something or had a question, either Rod or Cherie was there immediately to make sure my stay was relaxing and everything I was looking for in a get-a-way.
Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda was just 15 to 20 away. And the nearest beach was only 25 minutes. So many great restaurants, farmer's markets, antique shops, celebrations, and uniques shops kept me busy and satisfied. I can't recommend Fox Grove highly enough. It has been my home away from home. What a good, safe, secure, happy feeling. I loved it, and formed some wonderful friendships. Rod and Cheri, see you next year! :)

Relaxing secluded get-away.
We enjoyed our stay here very much. The place was so clean and cheerful. It is also close to several of the destinations that we wanted to visit. It was a country-like setting with orange trees and little pygmy goats. We adored the goats; watching them run around. The hosts were in tune to our every need and very friendly. We indulged in a catered meal on the premises that was delightful. We will definitely return!!

I really felt this was my home for two months.
I enjoyed the seclusion, but found a real friendship with Cheryl and Rod. My dog Flicka was very comfortable there, with runs in the orange Grove and walks on very quiet roads. Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte places, activities and restaurants, were only 20 minutes away. This was a great place to renew your heart and your spirit! Loved my visit and I am looking forward to my visit there next year.

About the host
Hosted by Cheryl & Rod Owners
Rod and Cheryl Bowman have called Fox Grove their home for over 30 years. They built a cottage on their property 2007 for guests to enjoy the beauty and wildlife of Florida. While on the property, in addition to the goats you may see turkeys, sand hill cranes, blue herons, raccoons, feral cats (they keep the rodent population down) gopher turtles, indigo, rat, and corn snakes, cardinals, hummingbirds, hawks, wild red foxes, and of course our resident silver fox.
