Terrific location in Menlo Park. Excellent communication with the owner/manager. Residence is private, quiet, comfortable, well appointed, clean, and up-to-date. We would surely choose to stay again and often.

A very cool place to stay
Rich and Julie are very gracious and friendly. The cottage is a detached garage retrofitted with an adorable one bedroom with full bath and kitchen. Very clean. Close to Palo Alto and Stanford. The bed was crazy comfortable. Would highly recommend this place

Hi Mike,
Glad you enjoyed your stay. Would love to have you back soon.
Best regards,
Rich
The location and neighborhood are great. That's it. The place is small. The photos are accurate but misleading. Great wide angle photography. The bathroom in particular is so small one can't towel off! Several bottles of used product were left in the shower...very off-putting. Parking is a nightmare. Street parking is illegal. You are to park in between 2 full size cars in a 2 1/2 space driveway under sap dripping evergreens. The worst problem is the WIFI. It is intermittent at best. It breaks off repeatedly. It performs like one line has been purchased and is being split with the main house.
It was the longest 6 days of my life.

Catherine's review isn't fully accurate. Google pushed a WiFi change and the owner spent hours working with her to resolve her WiFi issue. She told us it was working after that so we were a bit confused. As with all of our guests, we aim to please! Had she asked to depart early and move to a hotel, we certainly would have accommodated her.
Richard and his deputies were very responsive and friendly. When a medical procedure forced us to drop a week from our trip they were very accommodating.
Allied Arts oozes charm, the area is stunning. Perfect location. Close to downtown Menlo Park, Stanford Shopping Center, the campus, and every amenity. Very quiet as well.
Parking is narrow and a bit tricky but they do warn you. There is no oven or dishwasher and somehow we missed seeing that but if your stay is shorter term and you’re eating out it’s no big deal.
Come for the charm and location, location, location! Thank you.
We recently stayed for one month at the property. Communication with the Property Managers was great. There were a few things that could be improved but overall we enjoyed our stay. We hope to visit again.
A great choice for anyone making a stay near Stanford. Note that it has two bedrooms (not entirely clear from the listing). The small kitchen, work space, and washer/dryer were great to have.
Great place to recovery from operation at Stanford.
My husband had hearts surgery and I stayed at this property which was a 25 minute pleasant walk to the Stanford hospital. The property is very quiet and comfortable. It’s a great place to take walks by old redwood trees. Across the street is the Allied Arts Guild which is free to walk and enjoy the lovely gardens. You can also have a wonderful lunch. I highly recommend staying here....
Beautiful 2 bedroom cottage in a gorgeous neighborhood
We absolutely loved our stay here! It was clean, quiet and charming and very nicely furnished. The linens and beds were extremely comfortable, and there were lots of extra towels, cooking supplies, etc. The kitchen was lovely and well stocked. It is in one of the nicest neighborhoods in Menlo Park surrounded by beautiful, stately homes. The owner/manager was a pleasure to deal with and very thoughtful and responsive. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Adorable Cottage with Wonderful Hosts!
My husband and I had a lovely stay here on our visit back to Menlo Park. The Cottage is located behind Richard's home, so he's easily accessible if you need anything. It's clean, cozy, and just spacious enough for two people. The location is great, too - not far from downtown Menlo Park or Palo Alto, and just a block or two from the Stanford Shopping Center. Richard got us checked in quickly and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Highly recommend and hope to visit back sometime!

Mixed Blessing
The Menlo Park Allied Arts cottage was mostly delightful, with a few issues.
Pros: excellent location for walking access to Stanford Hospital, where my spouse was receiving cancer treatment in his chest, and also to delightful downtown Menlo Park. Charming interior, nice finishes and comfortable, attractive furnishings. Considerable privacy even though next to main house and garage. Reasonable cost for the area.
Cons: cottage had just been used for a party; freezer was full of smoothies and ice cream, fridge full of beer and wine, sticky spills on shelves. Owner kindly shared the beer, but we felt the lack of space to store our required diet. Large-scale construction project with associated noises across the street. Mandatory parking spot under a sappy tree.
Most concerning was a $300 smoke damage charge filed shortly after we left. Due to my spouse’s condition we are careful to avoid any lung irritants. Neither of us smoke, lit any flames or used the stove for anything but boiling water. I reached out to the travel insurance company and home owner but have received no response.
My spouse and I have stayed at short-term rentals across the country for years, and have never had any damage charges. Our deposits have always been returned. This unexplained damage charge during a challenging medical time is very concerning. I would suggest future guests meet with the owner upon checkout to ensure there are no surprise charges.

I had five different people come in to the cottage within an hour after your departure. All of us noticed the smell of cigarette smoke. We have a very strict no smoking policy. I had to hire a professional cleaning company to get the smell out. We were very disappointed about the smoking. Perhaps it was your daughter’s visit, because it was clearly emanating from the bathroom and it was the day after her visit. What else can I say? None of us smoke here.

Home Away From Home
As a business traveler it gets really old staying in hotel after hotel. This was a wonderful deviation from the big square box lodging. Very quaint and cozy in a safe neighborhood!

Absolutely perfect.
Rich has a lovely home in a graceful and quiet neighborhood next to Menlo Park's Allied Arts Guild park-like complex. Rich's ["our"] guest house next to his home is a true 1 bedroom suite with 2 living areas, kitchen, bath, and laundry facilities attached to his garage in his beautifully landscaped backyard. There are no shared walls with the main house, so we felt free to enjoy the 2 TVs.
The guest space was immaculate when we arrived and thoughtfully well-appointed with everything we needed for a 5-night stay.
My husband and I both had to work as well as play during our visit. The wifi was great 99% of the time. The 2 living areas afforded each of us some privacy to focus on our chores. We never expected to have such luxurious space between us.
It was the prettiest place we could find in our online search of the area. It is even better in person. It lived up to all we hoped to see/have/find and more in every way.
I had issues making the reservation -- probably because I am a HomeAway rookie. Rich was super quick and cheerfully responsive to all questions and issues in advance of our stay.
We hope to go back. We hated to leave. It was a perfect stay.

Super cottage in wonderful neighborhood!
We had a great stay in this cottage in Menlo Park. It was well fitted out, very comfortable and fully equipped. The owners were immediately responsive and supportive, even though they were on holiday themselves. The neighborhood is wonderful, great walking trail along the creek nearby and the gardens of Allied Arts across the street. It was very convenient for visiting our son who is at Stanford and touring the Redwoods and Coast. There is a nice Safeway, Peet's Coffe, Dry Cleaners, etc. a short drive away. Also lots of restaurants nearby. Best to have a car or use Uber for this spot. Looking forward to returning already. Highly recommend.

Great property in a wonderful location.
Rich is a great host and his guesthouse is more comfortable than most
hotels that I've stayed at. The location is very nice - a short walk
from both the Menlo Park downtown restaurants and practically within
sight of Stanford and Palo Alto.
Pro-tip - there's a walking bridge over to Stanford two blocks away
from the property!
