About this property
Chateau With Swimming Pool, Hot Tub and Sauna
Recently featured on Channel 4's popular series Chateau DIY.
Chateau de Dohem has a romantic history; in 1875 Andre Joseph Courtat built a large and beautiful property on the birthplace of his wife. The Chateau has breathtaking views over open countryside and is set in the heart of the Regional Natural Park Caps and Marais d’Opale in a small village called Dohem which is just a 40 minute drive from both the Eurotunnel and the Ferry, making it ideal for those who want to holiday in France but without all the driving. The property is set behind a high wall and is approached through wrought iron gates, over a sweeping gravel drive with plenty of parking space for 8-10 cars.
This beautiful Chateau has been completely renovated to a very high standard. It has 7 bedrooms in total. Six bedrooms within the Chateau, arranged over two floors, 3 of which have en suite shower rooms, a large light and airy lounge with wood burning stove, Games Room with Pool Table, Study with Wi-Fi, fully equipped Kitchen with large range style cooker, fridge/freezer with ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, large walk in Pantry and Utility Room with washing machine, tumble dryer and treble fridge, Dining Room seating for 16, ground floor cloakroom, first floor cloakroom and large family bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. Across the Courtyard a converted barn houses bedroom 7 which has a King Size bed with access to shower room and toilet via the sauna room. Within this building there is also a massage room, Sauna and changing Room
The property has a decked eating out area outside the kitchen with large table and chairs and to the rear of the property is a huge multi level decked area with seating and loungers with sandstone paving around the swimming pool which is heated between April and October.
This area incorporates the hot tub and swimming pool and has far reaching views over open rolling countryside. There are large landscaped gardens with lawned area and shrub borders, a pergola rose garden, small vegetable garden and a separate 'secret garden' hidden away with a fountain and pond full of water lily's and goldfish extensively planted with herbs and roses, a lovely place to sit and dream.

About the host
Hosted by Wendy Clark
My name is Wendy Clark and I am married to Marcus who is a Heritage specialist building restorer. I have a passion for doing up old properties and interior design, so the Chateau was a perfect project for us, and I am now satisfied it has been restored to its former glory. I think you will agree that is truly lovely throughout
The Chateau in Northern France we bought as a renovation project in December 2010 and it has now been restored throughout to a very high standard both inside and out. You will find comfortable sofas and beds, a very well equipped kitchen (we love cooking) and well tended gardens (another passion of mine).
We like our guests to have a real home from home experience, you will feel comfortable from the moment you arrive, and you will find everything you need on hand to have a fabulous and memorable stay.

Why they chose this property
We wanted to buy a property in France that was not too far from the Eurotunnel or Ferry, so that we could have lovely weekends with family and friends. The Chateau is just 40 minutes drive from both terminals at Calais, so it makes it easy to travel to and from the UK.
We fell in love with Chateau de Dohem at first sight. It looks like a romantic fairytale castle and the views from the rear garden are just breathtaking, rolling countryside as far as the eye can see. We were sold on the property before we even set foot inside the gates.
Set in a quiet location behind a high wall, you can feel yourself unwind and relax.
We took three years renovating the property and it is now truly beautiful both inside and out. It is a place to relax and enjoy with friends and family. We hope that you will enjoy staying here just as much as we do.

What makes this property unique
The house transports you to a time gone by. You feel it is a special place as soon as you catch sight of it. So pretty it looks like a magical fairy castle.
The property has all modern conveniences and everything you need for your holiday has been thought about.
There are plenty of eating out areas and wicker style furniture in abundance.
There is a full size outdoor swimming pool and hot tub set into the large multi level decked area. In a converted barn building just a few steps across the courtyard, there is an additional King size bedroom that has access to a shower and toilet, pamper parlour for treatments, sauna room.
In the Courtyard we have created a covered bar area (Marcus's favourite hiding place) beer blades are available for you to buy. We have also spent 18 months converting an old barn in the Courtyard, and this is now a Wedding Chapel, which can be used for dining or dancing during your stay. There is a fabulous sound system in the Chapel, outside in the Courtyard and on the back decked terrace there are music speakers, so you can have music wherever you go.
The games room has a pool table which has seen many a fierce pool challenge, there is a Smart TV with , Netflix, Amazon Prime and FreeSat box with 183 English channels. For rainy days there is a cupboard full of board games, DVD's and CD's and plenty of books and magazines
We have a full size cot available, two high chairs and two stair gates. There are also two inflatable mattresses.
