About this property

Rustic Stone Farmhouse B&B with shared use of grounds and living spaces

The South West facing grounds have a breathtaking view down the valley, with plenty of trees to provide dappled shade.

The property is accessed through the stone courtyard and seating area. Guest bedrooms are on the same level with use of a living room and access to the large shared balcony space.

Breakfast is served downstairs where it is naturally cool due to the structure of the property. Here there is a second living room, a portico space with pallet sofa, table and chairs and access to the lower terrace under the 100yr old walnut tree with deck chairs.

The area is especially appreciated by nature lovers, cyclists and runners as there are numerous walks and the village connects with the via Francigena. Many of our guests have enjoyed running in the area and the river bathing is fantastic with some amazing waterfalls, caves and gorges to be discovered a short drive away.

The medieval charm of the property and the area of Lunigiana (the Tuscan secret only a few know about) extends to the closest town of Pontremoli. The town is approximately 12km away with a number of excellent restaurants, high quality artisan food outlets, supermarkets and a twice weekly market (Wed and Sat mornings).

Local mountain spring water is provided.

Dinner is available on request with a minimum of 24hrs notice required.

Paradise in Tuscany, amazing views and owners not bad either!
From start to finish the whole experience has been fantastic. The property itself has all you will need and more for a "complete life detox and getaway from it all". Going to Tuscany always takes us back to nature and the important things in life for us, family. The area is outstanding and there is plenty to do. Pontremoli is a beautiful town and well worth a visit even if only to buy your groceries and head up into the mountains to the property. Rebecca and the children, Isabelle (sorry if I spelt it wrong!) and Alex were not only friendly but knowledgeable about the area and Italian life! They also made the most delicious courgette cake, chocolate nibbles and gave us the freshest courgette flowers to cook! We would not hesitate to go back and if life allows it would be back there now! We will definitely be returning in the future and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family and friends who want to get away from it all to visit here. Rebecca recommended some nearby river swimming and we could not have imagined the treat we were in for! The best day ever! Many thanks Rebecca for putting us on to this gem! One final thing is that if you want to be left completely alone and remain private you can but if you want anything the owners are there.

About the host

I am mum of two almost grown up children and speak fluent English and Italian. We live between the UK and Italy and have been hosting guests at our beautifully restored Tuscan farmhouse since about 2010. When in Italy, I love to take advantage of the fresh and nutritious food available cooking up some wonderful dishes. I also enjoy being in nature, going to the beach, river swimming, and experiencing the amazing local re-enactment festivals.

Why they chose this property

My husband and I bought this property to renovate it, as it had been uninhabited for many years and was without plumbing or electricity. Over a number of years, we breathed life back into the property balancing the original features that we could salvage and restore with a more contemporary look and feel. The area is tranquil and not too full of people and tourists. It has a sleepy, bucolic charm about it and we love experiencing the seasons and the local, delicious food available.

What makes this property unique

The air quality here at 500m above sea level and the cool breeze makes the hot Italian Summers more enjoyable. Our property is extremely spacious and a well-designed mixture of modern elements to complement the original stone features and terracotta and stone flooring, vaulted ceilings and typical chestnut wood eaves. The downstairs is exceptionally cool, especially in the Summer months, perfect if the heat of the day is a little too much for you. We find it relaxing and peaceful with some beautiful areas to explore in nature. It is a relaxed way of life from the past, although if you are missing the hustle and bustle there are markets and fiestas nearby that can put you back in touch with day-to-day life or busy towns such as Pisa, Parma, Modena and Genova slightly further afield.
