About Eileen Thomas
I grew up with my two sisters in Des Moines, Iowa. We studied ballet in my mother's dance studio and after high school I moved to Minneapolis to dance professionally with MN Dance Theatre. After a number of years, I moved to New York City to continue my dance career. I am now a massage therapist, in Brooklyn, where I live with my daughter. We have spent every summer of my daughter's life enjoying the Minnesota waters and hope to continue for many years.
Eileen Thomas purchased this Cabin in 1969
Why Eileen Thomas chose Park Rapids
My family has a long history with Long Lake beginning with my grandparents coming up from Iowa to fish in the 1930's. My parents had their honeymoon at the cabin next door and, as a family, we continued to visit many summer resorts on Long Lake. My parents purchased our cabin from the Pine Haven Beach Resort in 1969. My dad was a sailor and I have many fond memories of sailing all afternoon on the lake. It's always been one of my favorite places on the planet. We have life long friends here and so many wonderful memories.
What makes this Cabin unique
I think the lake is unique, in part, because of its shape with the little nooks and crannies along the shore. One of our favorite places is Breezy Point, which you can see from the deck to the south, because of its shallow water and sandy bottom. The wind blows the sand differently each day and its always interesting to see how it has changed. The front deck is open and spacious. In the cool mornings it is warmed by the sun for cozy, book reading with morning coffee. It's shaded and cool in the afternoons, perfect for drinks, lunch and evening grilling. The beach area is shady bottomed and shallow, perfect for watching small kids in water play. There is a sand pile for making sand pies and castles. In the evenings there is a fire pit for warming and cooking marshmallows. Long Lake is also conveniently close to Park Rapids and all its amenities, making a trip in a nice diversion for lunch, shopping or taking in one of the seasonal events in town. The kids always enjoy the candy store and movies.

Home Away from Home
We just finished our third week-long stay at Thompson Terrain. We love it ... clean, well-equipped, wifi and TV if you want it, wonderful view out the master bedroom, decent fishing. It's perfect for us.
Loved having you back again! Glad the fish were biting. Welcome back anytime!
great family vacation
Very nice cabin ! Clean and cozy in a very nice neighborhood.
Close to bike trail and shopping center.
Beautiful Country to Explore :)
The cabin truly had everything we needed and very spacious! The kids had a great time playing in the water, using the paddle boat and the hammock! The only downside were the 20 somethings staying at the cabin right next to us as they partied, drank and cussed a lot so it made it uncomfortable to have the kids play outside. Not Eileen's fault at all! But would have been a lot more relaxing without them there :) Thank you Eileen for letting us stay! We did enjoy exploring itasca state park and Park Rapids :)
Hi Theresa- I’m so sorry about the neighbors! I wish I had known as I would have addressed it. Please know for the future to call for any issue. I’m glad you and your family enjoyed the cabin, lake and Itasca State Park. You are welcome back any time!
Comfortable, clean, cozy, relaxing, well-equipped lake place in a wonderful setting.
We enjoyed a great 5 days at Thomas Terrain! It was our second time here and we will likely come back. Fishing was pretty good. We rented a motor from Charlie's Marine in Park Rapids for the fishing boat that comes with the cabin. Lake access is easy. Nice dock.
Glad to have you back Gayle and Terry!
Great Time at the Lake
We got off to a rocky and disapointing start, as the cabin had not been cleaned for our arrival. The owner was very apologetic and gave us a refund for our troubles. After spending some time washing linens and cleaning up floors, we settled in to enjoy our time on Long Lake. The cabin sleeping arrangements suited our family of six very well. The two bathrooms were also nice at times. The kitchen was well furnished. The dishwasher was great, as was the washer and dryer. We spent most meals eating on the deck, which had adequate chairs and table. The children enjoyed the beach, paddle board and paddle boat. On the downside, the bed sheets need some major upgrading, as well a new mattress pads on some beds. The living room furniture while adequate, could us some upgrading. Because the cabin had not been cleaned, it was hard to judge, but it was apparent that some deep cleaning was in order. We left the cabin a lot cleaner than when we arrived. We had a good time at Long Lake and we had some teachable moments with out grandchildren during our stay
Les - thank you for your response and understanding. The housekeeper mixed up your arrival dates which meant she hadn't done the work yet. She has been so reliable these past three years but now I will always check in so this doesn't happen again. I've improved the bedding and will make sure a deep clean is a regular pre-season event. I'm very glad you and your family enjoyed the lake, eating on the deck and the water toys provided. That is what I'm hoping you'll remember most!
Great Lake access, Dock, and Water Toys. Disappointing living quarters
The cabin is rustic with knotty pine paneling. While appearing clean initially, it became obvious that a deep cleaning is necessary. No Air-conditioning which made for quite miserable sleeping 4 out of seven nights. Absolutely poor bedding added to the nights misery. Most of the furniture is tired and some quite uncomfortable. The bathroom situation is less than ideal, with small crowded facilities. The kitchen is quite serviceable, with plenty of cookware and service pieces. The outdoor space is nice with adequate seating and furniture. The instructions were outstanding explaining all of the necessary issues to be dealt with. Owner was accessible with friendly neighbor to assist if necessary.
Thank you for responding. Of course, I am disappointed to hear you did not find the cabin clean and would like to know more. Possibly we can communicate via email. The listing does state there is no AC, so I hope that wasn’t a surprise. We have not needed AC in the past, but some summers are warmer than others. I do plan to put in a window unit in the downstairs bedroom for next summer. It was built as a cabin in the 60’s so the bathroom faciitlites do reflect a “cozier” set up than a more modern built structure would today. It is part of its charm, but not for everyone. Appreciate your honesty.
