Quaint, quiet & cozy waterfront 2 bed, 2 bath historic cottage
About Dawn Wade
We are the Wades, Jeff and Dawn. We're a semi-retired military, law enforcement family that have lived in Montana for close to 40 years. Dawn relocated to North Carolina 4-1/2 years ago and travels back and forth from there to Montana. We have two beautiful, adult daughters who now reside in North Carolina. We're very blessed to live in and enjoy two but very different worlds, the vast and open spaces of Montana during the summer months and the beautiful state of North Carolina, with all it's wonderfully hospitable people, beautiful trees and ever so gorgeous coastline! Dawn grew up in a Navy military family, living up and down the eastern seaboard, primarily southern Virginia. It was the fond memories of cardboard surfing down the sand dunes of Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, that awakened her love for everything that is ocean and drew her back to North Carolina. She moved to Montana as a senior in high school. She graduated from Montana State University in 1990 with a BS in Horticulture/Landscape Design. She went on to become a private pilot and pursue her MS in Aviation Safety at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Jeff was raised outside the Detroit area. He coincidentally moved to Montana with his family the same year as Dawn, although in two separate cities. Jeff graduated from Montana State University in 1988 with a BS degree in Geology. He's since graduated with a MS degree from the prestigious Army War College. Jeff has served his country proudly for over 30 years and served Montana proudly as a distinguished law enforcement official for going on 29 years.
Dawn Wade purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Dawn Wade chose Minnesott Beach
One of our guests told me something once, that has stuck with me ever since. It describes the feeling you get when you walk into Change in Attitude cottage. She said that it was "like the house was giving me a big hug". Thinking back, this is exactly what my husband and I felt when we walked in for the first time. The combination of the historic charm of the cottage itself combined with the peace and tranquility created from the quiet neighborhood and sight and sound of the vast water views is what led us to purchase and share this great place with others. We truly hope that all of our guests are able to experience this same sense of tranquility, peace and relaxation! We strive very hard to maintain high standards of customer service, safety and cleanliness. I believe this, in part, is so many guests have enjoyed so many memorable vacations at Change in Attitude cottage.
What makes this Cottage unique
One of the most unique benefit of this property is the great sandy beach located on site. Sitting in the comfort of the large, screened in porch, watching everything from the waves washing up on shore, to boats passing by to my favorite, dolphin watching, is truly a special experience. The beach also offers a great place to crab for the every so sweetly delicious blue crab.

Adorable place......quiet......well equipped..........and the view from the screened porch ........gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.......great areas to visit ...........Dawn is a doll too.......plan to return often................................
If you're considering renting this place, do it! Everything was absolutely perfect. No issues whatsoever. The house was clean, very comfortable and had an amazing view. I've never rented a place that felt more like home than this property. The owner thought of every little "creature comfort" that we could have needed. Communication with the property owner was prompt throughout the whole process. We really enjoyed our stay and would rent it again.
Our family enjoyed this wonderful property. It is well kept and in a great location.
Perfect little cottage on the Neuse
The place was meticulously kept and the kitchen was unusually well stocked for a rental. My wife wanted a long weekend near the water and loved the screened porch, deck, and sandy beach on the sound. Bonus: I caught a keeper slot limit redfish casting off the beach the first morning when I saw bait breaking and birds working. Really one of the better VRBO's we have stayed at, and the owner was very responsive. All in all a great little getaway.
Enjoyed the stay
This is a great place to stay if you appreciate seclusion and beauty, and an organized house. The house is well appointed and comfortable. Dawn thought of a lot of details that helped to make our stay at her house feel like our own house. The pictures and description were accurate and my expectations were met when I arrived.
It's important to note, there really isn't much around the area. This is not the place to stay if you are trying to reach the Outer Banks, although the beach at nearby Atlantic Beach was even nicer than Nags Head. Plan on spending your time enjoying the property, and you won't be disappointed.
What a view!
We came to the area to enjoy the world class red drum fishery in the Neuse River in the Fall. As luck would have it, we reserved this cottage for our stay. What a beautiful, comfortable place to spend a few days. The fishing was outstanding but this cottage made the time when we weren't on the water exceptional as well!
