The Neighborhood:
Westminster, located in the heart of London, is one of the most iconic and historic neighbourhoods in the UK, known for its rich heritage, political landmarks, and cultural institutions. This neighbourhood is synonymous with the British government and royalty, housing key institutions like the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace. Here’s a more in-depth look at what makes Westminster unique:

1. Historical and Political Significance
Westminster is at the center of British politics. The Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament) serves as the seat of the UK government, making it a bustling area for political activity. Westminster Abbey, an architectural marvel, has hosted royal coronations, weddings, and funerals for centuries, with many British monarchs, notable figures, and poets interred there. Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British monarch, is a popular attraction where people gather for the Changing of the Guard ceremony.

2. Architectural Grandeur
The neighbourhood is renowned for its grand Victorian, Georgian, and neoclassical buildings. Many historic streets, such as Whitehall and Victoria Street, offer views of opulent government offices and historic homes. Iconic landmarks like Big Ben, part of the Palace of Westminster, and St. Margaret’s Church give Westminster a unique, timeless skyline. Residential areas, particularly around Victoria and Pimlico, showcase classic British architecture, blending charming townhouses with modern developments.

3. Cultural Richness and Attractions
Westminster is home to many museums, galleries, and theaters, such as the Churchill War Rooms, Tate Britain, and the Queen's Gallery. It offers a vibrant cultural scene with regular concerts, events, and shows, especially in venues like St. John's Smith Square and the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Westminster’s proximity to other cultural hubs in London, like Covent Garden and Soho, makes it convenient for visitors to explore more of London’s art and theater scenes.

4. Green Spaces and Leisure
The area offers picturesque green spaces, like St. James’s Park, which provides beautiful views of Buckingham Palace and a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle.
Nearby, Green Park and Hyde Park offer more open areas perfect for walks, picnics, and events. The Thames River borders Westminster to the south, giving it a scenic riverside with embankments and bridges, ideal for riverside strolls and evening leisure.

5. Bustling Tourism and Shopping
Being a central London neighborhood, Westminster is always busy with tourists visiting its historic sites, taking guided tours, or enjoying river cruises.
Its central location also makes it a hub for high-end shopping, especially in the nearby Victoria Street and Regent Street areas.

The neighbourhood’s restaurants and cafés range from classic British pubs to upscale dining, catering to both locals and international visitors.
In summary, Westminster is a blend of history, politics, and culture, with a stately atmosphere and architecture that embodies the spirit of London. It attracts a diverse crowd, from tourists and residents to politicians and professionals, making it one of London’s most iconic neighborhoods.

Nice location

Easily accessible to many of the top London attractions, underground access, and a few nice bakeries and coffee shops. The Tube access is the main selling point for those on excursions. Perfect property to use as a base of operations (keep your stuff and rest) but not much more.

2 hours delay for check in . They don't have a replacement key. No compensation

I was also mistakenly sent a bill for £180 due to a supposed wrong check out (keys was delivered on time in the address). without any compensation. The place was nice. Very noisy at day because a construction site.

Short family stay in London

I was really surprised and the excellent location of this property. We were happy to be able to walk to almost all the attractions. The space and the beds were very comfortable.

Horrible Construction

Great location, and well managed. However, what they fail to tell you is that there is ongoing construction directly opposite the unit starting at 8am weekdays. It is so loud that it would up the dead. Considering the high temps, you have to keep the windows open (there is only 2 small fans) and all you get is noise and constant dust all day long. We all had a cough the entire time we were there. The constructions starts at 8am sharp. Weekends were quiet. Had we known about the construction we would never have booked. I also wouldn't book anywhere else once the construction is over.

An unbeatable location, but a somewhat tired property

There were a lot of minor problems with this stay, by comparison with what we expected. The living room floor was not well swept (my husband sewpt up immediately we arrived) and there some used crockery and cutlery had been left in the dishwasher. Several light bulbs were missing, though we managed to find replacements for a couple. The fitting to the en-suite bathroom radiator is damaged and frankly looks quite risky, and there were other minor issues such as a broken ceramic handle on the toilet also. The TV remote is either not working at all or the batteries have given out, because our only way of using the TV was via the buttons on the side. Overall, we just felt the property was a bit run down. On the plus side, though, we enjoyed the quiet nights and the easy accessibility to some of central London. By the way, the lift in the property is working, in contrast to what an earlier review suggested.

Bathroom problems

From check in to check out we had issues with both toilets flushing. I contacted the management company 3 times over the phone and via email exchange and over our 5 night stay this was never resolved. We had to go to a nearby hotel to use the bathroom. This unfortunately really impacted our enjoyment of the flat. Besides the toilet issues the location was wonderful and would be a lovely flat.

Wonderful, convenient location

Property was clean, exactly as pictured. Close to public transit (St. James Park station), and within easy walking distance of Westminster Abbey, Parliament/Big Ben, St. James Park, and with a little more effort, Buckingham Palace and the Theater district. Would definitely stay here again.

Convenient, reasonably priced flat in Westminster

There are so many flats to rent around London, it's very difficult to tell what will be good, vs what might be a scam. This flat was absolutely excellent for our family to explore London for the week. It was right next to the St. James's Park tube stop, and many busses stop nearby. It was very simple to get around. The immediate neighborhood isn't really a place you'd hang out, it's a bunch of government and embassy workers. But it doesn't matter, because a 5 minute walk and you're at Big Ben, 15 minute bus to Soho or other great places, and a 20 minute tube to virtually anywhere. Strange: it's VERY quiet at night. Like, shockingly quiet. If you're used to the background noise in NYC, there's nothing like that. You can practically hear passers-by whisper if they happen to walk under the window at night. Kitchen works well, it's great to do laundry. Very comfortable. Some other folks in the building and workers on the street smoke a lot of cigarettes, so we had to pay attention to leaving the windows open if they were smoking. Other than that, there was nothing to it. Highly recommended.

London Holiday

The flat was quaint and cozy. Very Clean. The elevator never worked though which made it difficult carrying luggage up 2 flight s of stairs. Additionally the WiFi was sketchy and did not always have enough signal strength to access. A secure network would be recommended as my security settings saw this network as dangerous. Mobile telephone service was also not consistent. I could only receive or make phone calls from the front bedroom. Regardless I would definitely recommend staying here. The location for sight seeing and accessing all parts of London is ideal.

Ideal location

We could not have been happier with the location of this property. There's a tube stop across the street but we didn't need to use it much because so much of what we wanted to see was within walking distance - Westminster Abbey and Parliament just a few short blocks away and Buckingham Palace and the Churchill War Rooms a reasonable distance as well. The apartment was clean and spacious; we enjoyed having the common space to chat about our day's activities. There's a market just around the corner so we were able to purchase some breakfast items and a couple of pubs nearby for a quick meal. The only negative was that we had difficulty with the lock box. First we were sent the wrong code and then had difficulty opening it - of course this latter part was probably due to the fact that it was late (2300) and we were tired. But once inside things couldn't have been better. I would highly recommend this property and would definitely stay again on my next visit to London.
