I will try to briefly tell you the history of this people, and I will offer you some itineraries to do alone or accompanied by a tour guide.

Buonvicino was born at the end of 1200 from the union of three villages: Salvatore, Tripidone and Trigiano. The first two houses of Hellenic origin were perched on the walls of the cliff of the Strait. To the south of Serra Pagano, in the territory of the present Belvedere Marittimo, there was Trigiano (built by the Romans in the area which today has become the Buonvicino countryside). Between the three settlements, initially, there were continuous feuds. The men of Salvatore and Trepidone, always looking for food, besieged the fertile territories of Trigiano. Only when Emperor Michael IV of Constantinople (1034 and 1041 AD) did he privilege the lands and settlers of Trigiano to San Ciriaco (abbot of the monastery of Santa Maria dei Padri which once stood in the territory of present-day Buonvicino) relationships between communities changed. The friars, in fact, allowed all three farmhouses to cultivate and practice grazing in those fertile lands.
The monastery was later named eparchy (superior body in the territorial district comprising all the Basilian centers of the upper Tyrrhenian Sea) and became a reference point for the Orthodox-Greek rite. Attracted by the beneficial influence exerted by the monastery, over the years, many inhabitants of the three villages moved to the convent. According to historians, the new village already existed before 1327. Initially indicated as good neighbors or good neighbors, it later became, for linguistic distortion, Bomvicino, Bombicino or Bonivicini. The country probably owes its name to the Basilian monks who decided to seal the union between the three communities. It is, however, starting from 1869 that the town will be definitively called Buonvicino.
Medieval historic center between alleys and squares, a varied path that winds through the alleys of the historic center full of memories and suggestions of the past that offer a stimulating scenario where sounds, smells and colors mix, giving life to a magical atmosphere. Continuing through the historic center you can admire: the 16th century San Ciriaco Abate Church. , preserves the relics of the Saint found in the ancient monastery of "Santa Maria del Padre" around 1600, now placed under the main altar, also the church is characterized by beautiful frescoes that reproduce the miracle of San Ciriaco while healing the daughter of the emperor Michael IV of Constantinople, ancient are the two stone lithic columns with a stoup that were once part of the ancient monastery then brought back to the church in the 16th century, the Baronial Palace Caglianone, located near Piazza San Ciriaco, the Palazzo Feudale dei De Paola located near the Church of the Madonna dell'Aiuto alla Torretta, from here we continue to the Belvedere panoramic point where we can admire the beautiful countryside of Buonvicino.
Mountain Tourism - Naturalistic Sports: the sports that can be practiced in the locality, for its articulated variety of territory and geomorphological conditions, are different: the territory is rich in large rocky jolts and numerous caves where there are many rocky overhanging cliffs, very beautiful and above all to try, it is climbing, trekking and many others.
Historical-archaeological-religious tourism: itineraries in archaeological sites located in the past may interest you, some finds are preserved in the Civic Museum of the Municipality of Buonvicino entitled "Museum of taste and popular traditions", but is recognized with the acronym M. A.G. B., or the Museo Arti Gusto Buonvicino.
The Museum was inaugurated on February 1, 2014, with the aim of preserving, enhancing, protecting and reviving the historical memory of Buonvicino. It does so by keeping within its walls all those artifacts that in a span of almost twenty years, were collected by Prof. Francesco Casella, citizen of Buonvicino, in the municipal area and which were donated by citizens. This series of objects refers to a temporal space that goes from the 10th century to the present day and follows what were the important passages of daily life and the progress of the small historic center: from the tools used by the master craftsmen of the time to tools commonly used in home use.
To See: Madonna della Neve Sanctuary:
Characteristic for its position, located in the locality of the same name, on the Monte della Neve at a height of 720 meters above the sea, built in the 18th century. Before that date the Blessed Virgin was worshiped in another church of which only the ruins remain today it stood in the wooded area called Santa Maria, in front of the village Tripidone and above the stone of the cisso. From the top of the mountain where the church is located you can enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramas, so much so that you can range from the Gulf of Policastro to Sicily and the restful green of the forests of the Apennine chain.
Serapotolo:
Originally this place was called Serapoto. The name derives from the Greek words skiara (dry) and potamos (river). The Greeks with this term indicated the stretch of a dry river bed that reached the slopes of Mount Guida. It was never inhabited by the Greeks who used it rather to cook lime, produce coal or distill the resin from which to obtain pitch for ships. Serapodolo was inhabited by a few families only in the early 1900s and then around the 1950s. The area, although nothing has emerged yet, is considered of particular archaeological interest.
San Ciriaco cave:
Where the saint went to pray when he was young, about 2.00 km from the town, near the ravine stream, full of concretions.
Gastronomy and Wines: Ippolito Cavalcanti Duke of Buonvicino was born in 1787. He moved and lived in Naples where he was called to court as a culinary consultant to the Bourbons. He was the author of a theoretical and practical cookbook with about a thousand recipes. In the first editions the recipe book was written in pure Buonvicinese dialect. The book is highly sought after by gastronomy enthusiasts. In Naples, a hotel establishment was named after Cavalcanti.
