The house, El Cherqui is a two hundred year old traditional stone house a few kms outside the vibrant seaside town of Essaoura. The house is perched on a rural hillside with an uninterrupted view of a valley of olive trees.
The conversion & interior was designed & furnished by a Hollywood movie stylist & is a great mix of local furnishings with a 'California' attitude to openness & light.
This former merchant's house has been featured in several magazines & books on Morocco, including Marie Claire Maison & the Conran book on Morocco.
It is very laid back feel & a great place for people who want to get away from it all for a while. Many visitors with families have stayed at the house. It's a great place to get away from it all, relax and watch the world go by. It is an easy pleasant 15 minute drive by car to Essaouira, the beach and the medina.
The house has two bedrooms, a large living room with roof light and a dining area. There is a smaller living room with large open fireplace for Christmas & New Year fires. The house has a Moroccan style garden with a shaded courtyard, & barbeque area at the rear.
There is also a fantastic roof terrace above where it is possible to relax in the day, watch the sun go down or sleep under the stars at night. HOWEVER YOU SHOULD NOTE THAT YOUNG CHILDREN SHOULD NOT USE THE ROOF TERRACE UNSUPERVISED.
Abdul the guardian is situated in the studio apartment adjacent to the house and courtyard.
