The hospitality we had received was outstanding- beds were very comfortable, house was clean and well stacked with supplies (coffee, tea, paper towels, utensils etc.). The price for the house is affordale and the location is great. Quiet place to enjoy!
At first my friends and I were taken aback by the amounts of stuffed animals displayed on a wall, but we do understand that this house is more of a ‘hunters lodge,” than just friends or romantic getaway.
Overall we had a wonderful time and we will come back in a later time while wisiting southern Illinois.
Had a great weekend getaway here for a bachelor party! Martin the owner stopped by and gave us some great tips on what to do. I would definitely stay here again and might even make it back for deer season. Although, it might be easier to just hunt with my car considering I almost hit three separate deer over the weekend!!

Very Disappointed
In summary, the seven of us were very upset about this stay. It is a very tiny town that is far from everything. We were visiting family eight hours away. I understand that this place is used for a hunting lodge as well and expected rustic. It had live and dead bugs inside, the furniture is not in great shape. The coffee pot is broken, two of the stove burners are not working, there is a lot of food left that needs to be thrown away. When you look around, you feel like someone lives there and they left so you could rent it. The outside area is trashy and could be picked up and look nicer with very little effort. We get there and and didn't do much at first. We wanted to relax that evening and the tv would not work because the remote was nowhere to be found. The owner didn't say sorry he just said it had to be there. We looked everywhere, including the nasty couch and chairs that have hair and food and dead bugs all underneath. His family comes and looks and they don't see it either of course. So we are told they will get a new remote the next morning. Ok no big deal. They even helped us start a fire because the wood is all wet, which was nice. So we hang out at the fire for a while and go in to get the smoke smell off and there is NO hot water! I send a message. My husband is very handy and he tried to fix it but it wouldn't work. The owner said he would have someone look at it in the morning. At this point,we have no hot water and no tv. No games or cards to play either. There is not even a gas station in this town, so it's very small. Two of us decide to take a very cold shower which was awful. The next morning two guys that we don't know come and knock on the door and hand us a remote and look at the hot water tank. My husband tried to read the directions to the remote and is not able to establish a connection with the dish network,so still no TV and WE programmed the remote! The two guys leave and said they can't fix it. We hear nothing. So later I sent a message to the owner and asked what the verdict was, he said he called a plumber. Ok. We are visiting family and we get a call about when we will be back at the lodge so they can have dish call us about the remote. The family of the owner ended up going to the lodge to get the tv working. They leave us a note that the plumber can not fix it and it will be 5 days for the part!! The owner is willing to give a half refund due to the problem. We could not do dishes or take showers the whole time.
The lodge was clean and the beds comfortable. Spent a lot of time sitting on the back porch and relaxing. My dog loved walking around the quiet roads and forest. The lodge was fully stocked with everything you would need. Had a great time meeting up with my family. Great place to go if you're looking to disconnect and live country for a few days. Matt was very responsive with any questions as well.
Plenty of room to play outside and to relax inside! Fully stocked kitchen, big clean bathrooms with lots of towels, nice washing machine, we all slept well in our bunk beds and watched deer play in the field across the road. There is some yard clutter that wasn’t shown in pictures so maybe not ideal for toddlers, but we were fine with that. We went hiking in Shawnee Forest from here. Would be great for a bunch of single guys who were there to hunt! No stores close so take food with you! Matt responded quickly to the And fixed the one minor issue we had. My family loved all the deer mounts inside!!
A wonderful experience for non hunters at hunters lodge

Perfect lodging and accommodations for hunters as well as families!
Our family of ten spent a three-day hot/humid(!) weekend here Aug. 19-22. We were about 40 minutes north of the the area where we would view the solar eclipse. We were surrounded by cornfields and enjoyed a short walk to the Ohio River. Everything was exactly as pictured - very comfy and clean, including cupboards and refrigerator space for our own food. Our non-hunting family had a great time staying in this deer hunter's dream lodge... our kids loved to "pet" the bear skin on the wall and we were all able to fit around the big table to play cards and games.
Thanks to Matt and Martin Duffy for advising us to buy food and gas before entering Illinois and for going above and beyond in answering all of our questions. See you again in 8 years!
