What’s nearby?
The cottage is within easy walking distance of the excellent (and dog-friendly) Rising Sun Inn, with a well deserved reputation for its food and locally brewed real ales, located less than a mile along a quiet, almost level country lane. The A30 is only 10 minutes drive from the cottage, providing easy access to all destinations in Cornwall and the South West. The local village of Altarnun has a post office and small village shop. A full range of services (including town centre shops and banks, supermarkets, local hospitals and GP services, veterinary clinics, leisure centres etc) are located in the nearby towns of Launceston, Bodmin and Camelford, each about 20 minutes away. Bodmin Parkway railway station is about 20 minutes drive away, with local taxi services and car rentals available. Walk directly from the cottage and out on to the dramatic landscape of Bodmin Moor (local OS maps and walking guides are provided). The stunning North Coast beaches and harbours (including Padstow, Rock, Port Isaac and Tintagel) are a short drive away, and providing a wide range of options for surfers, swimmers, walkers, shoppers… North Cornwall is becoming increasingly famous for its ‘foodie’ delights – and there are many wonderful producers and places to eat in the surrounding area. Jamie Oliver’s ‘Fifteen’ Restaurant which enjoys panoramic views across Watergate Bay near Newquay, Rick Stein’s justifiably famous Seafood Restaurant at Padstow, and Nathan Outlaw’s quirky little Fish Kitchen by the slipway in Port Isaac are just a few personal favourites of ours. Watersports enthusiasts may enjoy sailing, windsurfing and canoeing at nearby South West Lakes Trust facilities at Siblyback and Roadford Lakes. These lakes – and many others – offer fishing, too. (And there is plenty of space at Little Crifts Cottage to park a dinghy!) Further afield, the cities of Exeter, Truro, and Plymouth, with their full range of retail, entertainment, and cultural offerings, are each about an hour away. NEW FOR 2019: Free use of the pool and facilities at Camelford Leisure Centre for cottage guests.

Fantastic cottage
We enjoyed our stay very much, in this modern cottage. The facilities were brilliant. Kate and Nigel were extremely welcoming, as they live in the house beside. A place easy to access to all the main roads, so getting to anywhere is very easy. A place we can highly recommend. Thanks again for the fresh eggs and homemade cookies.
Owner supplied a ‘home from home’. Well equipped kitchen ( though the top cupboards are too high for anyone under 5’2”) and comfortable sitting room with picture windows. The shower room was a little problematic given the floor was uneven and the shower head was fixed and high up (not very female friendly!). The 2 outside door locks were extremely difficult to turn - maybe some WD40 may help? But our hosts were very helpful and on hand. We loved the convenience of their enclosed orchard as a good space for exercising our dog off lead. The cottage is in a lovely part of the country.
Lovely property in the middle of the countryside along very narrow roads. We had a small dog, so ideal for him, although all three gates in the garden were wide, so he could get through them, which may be an issue, if you want your dog secure. It is well equipped and has a beautiful garden/terrace area. Hosts are lovely and live next door, so handy if you need any information etc. About half an hour to the coast a 15 minutes to the nearest shop. Tesco nearest large store. All in all would recommend this property.
We had a lovely holiday at Crifts Cottage. The Cottage was clean and well looked after. In a quiet location but in easy reach of places to visit in cornwall. Would recommend staying here.
Crifts cottage is perfect for a family of four.. quiet location with great hosts, clean and great bedrooms and excellent kitchen. In such a quiet location but easy to get out and about for visiting beaches, tintagel, padstow and fowey amongst other locations.
Hosts are welcoming and provided good communications before and during stay.
All in all excellent stay in great quality quiet location.
We would stay again with no hesitations
Just back from a truly amazing summer week in Cornwall. This eco-build holiday cottage had everything we needed for our first ever family visit to Cornwall. Kate & Nigel give a warm welcome and communication was open and easy. The cottage was exceptionally clean and supplied everything we needed., clean towels and bedding, comfy, firm beds and the kids were grateful for the WiFi and smart TV. The washing machine was a welcomed utility for a family of four who spent every day on the beach and needed to freshen our towels etc at the end of the day.
The only point to highlight is that the cottage was tricky to find. (We drove passed the turning 4-5times before realising) and Do not rely on sat nav directions. The nearby Rising Sun Inn is a good pinpoint to work from. Otherwise the location is a great base as close to the A30 making it easy to explore Cornwall.
We will book up for next year as soon as we can…thanks again Kate & Nigel.
From reading other reviews we had high expectations of Little Crifts and we certainly were not disappointed. It is in a great location for reaching either the north or south coast and is then a peaceful and comfortable place to return at the end of the day, with excellent kitchen facilities and plenty of space to relax. The bed was SO comfortable, the towels were huge and fluffy, and there were lovely details like fresh eggs for us, flowers on the table, maps of the area to borrow and a welcoming snack for the dog!
As has been said by other reviewers, Kate and Nigel are perfect hosts - friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. We really would recommend LIttle Crifts and hope to visit again - hopefully when the local pub is up and running again!
A very comfortable chalet in a quiet, peaceful location. Kate was keen to ensure that everything was satisfactory for us. The rugged beauty of Bodmin Moor is nearby, and the north and south Cornish coasts only around an hour away.
Our stay at Little Crifts Cottage was genuinely faultless. The location was spot on for us, as it was peacefully quiet and secluded yet easily accessible for main roads to wherever we went, and during our week we explored the North and South coast of Cornwall as well as St Ives. We loved Trebarwyth Strand beach / cove which was 25min away, as beautiful, fun, not overrun and also great for our dog (didn't see any dog mess there at all either). Had a good cafe and shop there too. Would recommend local pub too for friendly service and delicious food.
The accomodation itself was spotless, and had every implement and provision we needed! We loved coming back to the accomodation at the end of days exploring as the cottage itself was a treat to relax and eat in. Super comfy beds! The contained field/orchard was also perfect for our dog to run in and she couldn't get out.
Kate and Nigel were really friendly, unobtrusive hosts who had thought of everything, and we especially appreciated the delicious fresh eggs and home baked biscuits thank you! They were also easy to get hold of with queries.
All in all, we'd recommend this place to anyone who asked, and feel it would be suitable for both couples and families alike. And if unlike us you don't have a dog - you'd never know any had been in there anyway, as it really is immaculate.
Thank you Kate and Nigel! :)
Great cottage with everything you could need, comfortable, very clean and the owners are very helpful and accommodating. The home made biscuits and eggs from the owners hens were also very welcoming on arrival.
The location is great to explore North Cornwall and being close to the A30 was very handy to get around.

Brilliant, quiet and would stay again.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property had everything we could need and the fresh eggs and baked oat cookies were very well received.
Perfectly located for travelling around most of Cornwall and 10 mins from the main road. If you have a low car, you have to take it very easy on the farm track, but that’s no problem as it worries the sheep less.
Overall we were very pleased with our choice and would definitely stay again

Fantastische cottage in mooie landelijke omgeving

Modern & very comfortable cottage!
Very much enjoyed our stay. Brand new and very comfortable accom, all modern facilities and spotlessly clean. Our hosts were extremely welcoming, and were easy to contact if you need to ask any questions about anything, as they live in the house beside. Easy access to all the main roads, so getting to anywhere is very easy, especially the lovely north Cornish coast. Highly recommend the place, and will hopefully return again.

About the host
Hosted by Kate & Nigel Watson
We have lived here at West Trelyn since 2014, during which time we have developed our smallholding with poultry, geese, and growing vegetables in our garden and polytunnel. Construction of the holiday cottage began in 2015 and finished in the summer of 2017.
Why they chose this property
We have built this beautiful, architect-designed cottage, specifically for holiday use, on our Cornish smallholding. From the ground up (a minimum-concrete foundation made with block & beam technology) the cottage was constructed as an eco-build, it is highly-insulated, with underfloor heating, to make a comfortable, low energy, holiday home all year round.
What makes this property unique
The cottage has exposed beams, natural slate floors with underfloor heating, and a freestanding wood-burning stove. We love to cook, and have equipped the kitchen to contain everything we would have wished to find when cooking in a rental home.
