About Richard Doubleday
Meet Richard & Rachel It was a chance discovery of the quintessential Suffolk village of Foxearth that made Richard and Rachel want to move to this ‘secret’ area of the country; a tranquil location where everything slows down and the pace of life seems so much more relaxed. With narrow, picturesque country lanes and undulating expanse of countryside with 360 degrees views, they decided this was the place where they wanted to stay.
Why Richard Doubleday chose Sudbury
They decided this hidden Suffolk would be a fantastic place for people to visit. The perfect spot to build a holiday let, right next to an open field taking in the magnificent views. Our ethos, to construct a building that fits seamlessly into the countryside and has a low impact on the environment. The cabin reflects a traditional Suffolk hit-and-miss style that had been used for centuries on many old barns, built using Larch, a material that blends with age. Surrounding the property is a veranda made from reclaimed scaffold boards and the off cuts were used to create an original dining table and dressing table. Inside handcrafted Bentwood Oak light shades by Tom Raffield, continue the wooden theme. The log burning stove, outdoor fire pit and an Eco air source heat pump which also cools in the summer, adds to the cabin's low impact.
What makes this House unique
Wildlife & Environment Backing onto a golden cornfield, with uninterrupted views right on the headland of the fields and surrounded by miles of rolling countryside, an abundance of wildlife can be seen from your cabin. Deer, owls, pheasants and birds of prey are regular sightings, but the highlight has to be on a sunny morning with a light mist in the air, sitting on the veranda and watching boxing hares vying for their position within the husk.
