At the foot of the Castle, in the historical center of the village of Montemor-o-Velho
Casa da Taberna Velha ... In the old Taberna House there was an old tavern that inspired its name and served drinks and snacks until the 60's, when the business was closed, and later it was inhabited. The building became degraded having been acquired in 2006, when it began to be recovered for housing, respecting its popular moth. The garden, very degraded, has been recovered, has 2 spaces for meal abroad. The upper floor was intervened and made habitable. In 2016/2017 the house was the subject of a second intervention and registered as Local Accommodation. The garden, currently has two patios and grassed area. The tavern was preserved as a memory of the activity of other times and could be used as a convivial space. Accessibility ... In the center of the country: 200 Km from Lisbon; 130 km from Porto; 25 Km from Coimbra; 15 Km from Figueira da Foz. The Casa da Taberna Velha is located in the historic center of the old and quiet village of Montemor-o-Velho whose origin is linked to the presence of the imposing castle that was once part of the defense line of the city of Coimbra. Inside the castle grounds and in the center of the village, one can admire sculptural examples of the Renaissance master João de Ruão. Through the narrow and winding streets, the medieval layout of the village is discovered, towards the castle where Inês de Castro's order of execution began, among other episodes in Portugal's history. The proximity of the city of Coimbra allows a visit to Quinta das Lágrimas, the scene of the loves of Pedro and Inês, important historical monuments and urban areas recognized as World Heritage. In the heart of Baixo Mondego, the village is dominated by the attractive landscape of maize and rice crops. The presence of the Olympic rowing lane provides another reason for interest, and the proximity of Figueira da Foz feeds the sun and sea. At 4 km the river beach of Ereira is another space to be enjoyed by visitors in summer. Known for the excellent convent confectionery originated from the Convent of the Carmelites, the village of Tentúgal is located 10 km. Nearby are also the cities of Leiria and Aveiro 48 km and 52 km, respectively. The modesty of this village and the characteristics of the Casa da Taberna Velha allow the tranquility of the family or friends, and are excellent spaces for rest, reflection, reading and writing. There is in Montemor-o-Velho an excellent municipal library, also having the house of a small Room / Library. Pedestrian or bicycle tours allow the discovery of the village whose annual festival takes place in the first week of September.

Awesome host and lovely property... enjoyed having so much space and the garden and cats to cuddle. Away from coimbra but close to lots of places. We were treated like friends even had custard tarts and fruits and bread left out for our arrival. Awesome cafe/restaurant very close where we had the best ever prawns. Highly recommend staying here.

Muito obrigado pelo vosso comentário, foi encantador e encorajador para continuar a fazer um serviço de excelência.
We fell in love with the charming and historic Montemor-o-Velho. We stayed for 16 nights in an amazing and historic former Tavern/Inn. The Inn had been beautifully restored and furnished. The hosts are warm, friendly and welcoming. The hosts made our stay a 5 star stay! Lovely couple! Obrigada! Até já !

We wanted to be close to the castle and in a genuine historic building. Raul provided wood and starters for the fire box and we were very cozy. Electric blankets to prewarm the beds too. Kitchen had all we needed. Lovely garden space for lunch or reading. Great little restaurants and very friendly people. We met an English speaking family at a town festival and the wife (in the midst of writing her PHD took a day off to show-us that the most important Roman archeological dig was a short drive away. Raul (the owner) also cooked a beautiful cod fish meal for us. The 2 weeks we spent here were ideal. We did side trips to Nazare, Coimbra and Obidos and ate excellent seafood and drank very good inexpensive wines. The pictures on the site do everything except capture the friendliness and willingness to help a couple of nonPortugues speaking Canadians!
This property is in a small village centrally located. It has lots of room and ideal for 2 couples, although the kitchen could use some attention in terms of cooking utensils, fridge, basic supplies such as salt and pepper. but the hosts are wonderful and very accommodating.
Sehr schöne hist. Wohnung mit ruhigem kleinen Garten. Netter Gastgeber.
Very comfortabel house with all you wish: central location to do your things

On a passé 2 nuits.
