About this property

Tilney Hall. A listed Georgian Hall set in its own grounds.

Dating back to the 18th-century, this elegant hall stands detached within large lawned gardens and offers a unique opportunity for large groups and families wishing to holiday together. It is situated within rural countryside just off the road between Kings Lynn and Wisbech road giving easy access for exploration of the wonderful North Norfolk coastline, surrounding villages and market towns. The historic town of Kings Lynn is just 5 miles away with its market square and picturesque riverside; visitors will find shops, pubs and restaurants in abundance. Golf, riding and fishing are close by. Lovely sandy beaches and RSPB reserves are within half an hour’s drive. West and North Norfolk have expanses of sandy beaches and salt marshes along the coastline, as well as nature reserves to protect the birds and plants which thrive here. The seaside resorts of Hunstanton and Heacham boast award-winning beaches and an array of traditional seaside activities and attractions for all ages. Hunstanton has a pier with lively seasonal entertainment, Sea Life Centre and cliff-top golf course. Sandringham Estate, the Queen’s country residence, with its Jacobean-style house, museum, superb gardens and park, is open to the public when the Royal Family is not in residence. The market town of Wisbech is 15 miles, and the medieval town of Kings Lynn, 5 miles, features a handsome waterfront and an array of shops, inns, restaurants, a theatre, cinema, bowling alley and sports centre. Downham Market, 10 miles, with its Friday and Saturday markets boasts a direct rail link to Ely, Cambridge and London (1 hour 20 minutes). To the south lies Ely Cathedral, ’Ship of the Fens’, standing proudly in the small city of Ely, which has an excellent Saturday market and a good variety of gift shops, as well as a pretty waterfront and boat hire. Cambridge is easily accessible for the day and well worth a visit. One of the nicest ways to explore the city is by punt, which meanders through the city and passes many of the stunning university grounds. A lovely family get-together
This home comfortably accommodated 7 adults and 3 children with loads of garden space for the children to run around. We were 3 generations with ages ranging from 4 to 76 and we all loved it.

Tilney experience.
Lovely period house, plenty of room. Well appointed but perhaps a kitchen table would have been useful. Dishwasher small for 10 persons. One cistern had an eccentric technique for flushing- perhaps a replacement part might not go amiss? Overall a very pleasant experience.

What happened to the Weber grill….it disappeared overnight?
Unique property. Skillfully decorated. Driveway entrance and exit very hazardous. Unable to exit safely without a spotter. Needed to hack down the overgrown hedge on both sides using a pair of kitchen pliers ……leaving thorny branches. The Weber grill disappeared overnight and the other grill was water logged. Very clear detailed instructions, but land lord took too long to respond. Kitchen spacious, well equipped but stove challenging and many items in the kitchen closet had cobwebs on them. Be prepared to take multiple steps in the kitchen. Suggest a small table in the kitchen would be helpful.

This is a handsome and interesting house, with lots of space outside. I have given in rather low ratings on the specific questions above, but at the same time it is very comfortable, well-equipped and great for a large group. We had a lovely time!

Oxford and then Cambridge with 25 years in London for good measure.

Why they chose this property

We found the property in a dilapidated state together with its barns on the historic buildings at risk register. Someone had to save it! It took 10 years over all to restore the house and barns sympathetically to their former glory. We have wonderful long term tenants in the converted barns and take great pleasure in welcoming guests such as yourselves in the Hall.

What makes this property unique

Its wonderful sense of calm. It's the only place in the world I actually relax, do nothing and don't feel guilty.
