Beautiful property
Our family spent a wonderful week at the Old Bread Oven Barn. The property had everything we needed and more. The pool was a great size for the children to enjoy, and the poolside fridge and dining area were very useful. We enjoyed the beautiful views and star gazing at night. Danny and Monique were extremely welcoming and helpful. We would not hesitate to recommend the property.

A wonderfully relaxing place to stay
We had a fantastic week here. Monique and Danny are great hosts and went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. The gite is well equipped and very comfortable - and also stays cool during the day. The pool area is fantastic and the kids loved the games area. Monique and Danny provided an incredible hamper when we arrived and also made pizza for us one night, which we really enjoyed. It was lovely to sit around for an evening and get to know them! We definitely hope to return!

Fabulous gite with fantastic owners
We were really looking forward to staying here after seeing the photos and reviews and we were not disappointed! The gite is testament to Dan and Monique's hard work, thought and care. The pool area is brilliant with comfortable furniture, fridge/freezer, BBQ and shade! There are multiple areas to sit and enjoy the views, as well as a bar area with outdoor games like darts and table tennis. The gite itself is perfect for a family of four - cool, clean and comfortable. Dan and Monique are generous hosts, providing amazing goodies to welcome us, as well as other lovely touches as the week went on, including a pizza night! We would love to return!

Incredibly relaxing stay
Fabulous stay! We were made very welcomed by Dan and Monique who are great. They were there if needed but also respect your privacy at all times. They provided a welcome pack which after a long day of travelling was massively appreciated. Yummy!! The grounds are well kept and loads of places to relax in the sun but also shaded. The private pool area is something else, all the things you need in order to enjoy yourself. Inflatables, sturdy sun beds, huge fridge for wine/beer and a BBQ. Seating area for eating and relaxation too, also let’s not forget the swing to watch the sunset and the hammocks!! We were also treat to pizza night, homemade chutneys and homegrown veg, just fabulous. Our dog Alfie loved meeting Louis and Hannah, resident dogs and they had lots of fun playing. There is a dog pool in the pool area too. We stayed for 2 weeks and probably our 5/6 visit to France, but this one topped it as we had amenities to ourselves that we usually share so win win, everything has been thought about and you can’t go wrong choosing this place if you want total relaxation, and explore the region. Thank you!! 😃

Perfection
Can we go back please? A wonderful, well-equipped gitè in glorious country-side. The pool was fantastic and equally well-equipped with the pool house with shade, additional seating and fridge/freezer and oodles of additional outside space. To be honest, we didn’t really need too much else but there are plenty of great attractions to visit locally from river beaches to chateaus to cultural museums. Dan and Monique are amazing hosts - they offered helpful information on local spots to visit, went to great lengths to support our gluten free son and enabled us to get the very most out of our visit. The star-gazing night with hot chocolate and brownies was out of this world. All without intruding on the privacy of our holiday in any way. If you have the opportunity to go, you won’t regret it and we are very much hoping to return.

About the host

Hosted by Monique or Danny

Host profile image
Danny and I met in london in 1987, after living in various locations we settled in Blackheath South East London.I am a qualified beauty therapy trainer and I trained for Clarins UK for 25 years. Danny worked for Net-A-Porter the worlds leading online fashion company.Danny and I had always discussed the possibilites of running a small holiday business. We decided to leave the UK and look for a more relaxed way of life in rural France.

Why they chose this property

Danny and I with our two dogs Hannah (Bichon) and Louie (Korthals griffon) viewed and fell in love with La faurie straight away. We bought the house in November 2016 knowing that this rural quiet area would be an ideal place to run a small Gite from. We started work to put in the pool straight away, its totally private and includes a fully equipped pool house which has a fridge freezer, bbq, plastic utensils (safety reasons) table and chairs plus a sofa for relaxing. The Pool will be heated between May - October. We also have private pond which has Tench and Carp surrounded by wildflowers as well as a stunning weeping willow. there is a very generous garden surrounding the Gite which leads up to the pool. The land surrounding our house is a mini orchard that includes walnuts, Cherries, Apples, pears, peaches, Quince, Hazelnuts and 2 stunning very large Fig trees. We also have 2 Acres of forrest to the north of the property.

What makes this property unique

This area is totally unspoilt and very rural with Farmers going about there daily business,we just love being here. The area is an official dark sky area meaning no street or town lights to interrupt the stunning clear sky at night where the stars are simply amazing. The property enjoys no close neighbours making it extremely quiet. The beautiful bread barn(gite)is in a courtyard with the main house and old wine barn, wine was produced from vines on the land many years ago.The property retains a unique Charente character found within this area and dates back to 1881.
